Summary: This Movie Kicks Major Boo-tay
Review: The first time I saw this movie was a few years ago. I was in the video store with my parents, and we couldn't decide on a movie. Finally my dad picked out The Princess Bride. I wasn't so keen on watching it, but they forced me. As it turns out, I LOVED it!

This is a wonderful story of adventure, courage, friendship, evil princes, and true love. If you like that sort of movie, you'll love this one. I highly recommend it. I personally would have given it more than just 5 stars, but unfortunately that's the limit. If you don't buy (or rent) this video you're missing out.

Summary: love is as strong as death
Review: I know of no movie that is nearly as entertaining as The Princess Bride. I saw it when I was still pretty young and loved it. I caught it on the television some time ago and it was even funnier and more charming.

Billy Crystal and Carol Cane are hysterical as the healer and his wife..."He's only 'mostly dead'" is one of the greatest lines in all of Cinema.

Mandy Patinkin is outstanding in his role as the left-handed swordsman. His fight scene on top of the Cliffs of Insanity is one of the greatest pieces of comedic action that I have yet encountered.

The Movie is noble in theme as well. What could be a more universal theme than love? Be it between a farmboy and a princess or a grandfather and the ill grandson he is baby-sitting...Love is the first and greatest theme. It is well expressed by this movie. Wesley's love (as well as the love of the grandfather played by Peter Faulk) is undying...It is reminiscent of the love described in another book (which has inspired a few movies in its own right):

"Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. " (Song of Solomon 8:6)

If you've never seen The Princess Bride-watch it soon...If you have seen it, watch it again. I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: The classics of all classics!!!
Review: This movie is a classic - all kids should be brought up on this film when growing up - a movie truley for all ages!

Anybody want a peanut!

Fantastic!!

Summary: The Movie at the top of everyone's list
Review: 'As you wish' 'My name is Inigo Mantoya. You killed my father! Prepare to die!' 'Stop rhyming I mean it!' - 'Does anyone want a peanut?' 'Inconcievable!' - 'I do not think that word means what you think it means' *****************************************************************

This movie makes me long for more movies just like it. It's just too good. The sword fights, screaming eels, Cliffs of Insanity, senile King, a dink for a prince, a lovable giant, an arrogant criminal with a lisp, a drunk swordsman with serious revenge issues, the peasant boy/masked hero, a beautiful princess, and, of course, the ROUSs (rodents of unusual size). What movie isn't complete without ROUSs?! I know a few real-life ROUSs. Ahem.

The book is great, but the movie follows it well enough in its own right. It's a totally QUOTABLE classic. I couldn't resist - I bought the soundtrack. The 'Cliffs of Insanity' music and the kissing scene tunes are my favorite.

The only other movie that compares in its comedic/adventure scope is 'The Goonies'.

Summary: The Princess Bride
Review: A family classic. Perfectly cast. A refreshing escape from Michael Eisner's marketing vehicles thinly disguised as family entertainment. Unadulterated good clean fun. A wonderful mix of drama, comedy, campiness, and action, gently and warmly blended; curiously touching. All this and an absolutely scintillating sword fight that will knock your SOCKS off, perhaps the best I've ever seen.

Summary: One of the Greatest Films ever.
Review: I watched this movie for the first time when i was like 8 years old and i totally loved it. Ive seen it a few times in the years following until about a year and a half ago. I rented the movie and i loved it even more than i ever did. This is a movie for all ages. Younger children will love the fairy tale story. older adults will enjoy the hilarious intelligent humor. This is one of those movies that gets better each time you see it. You catch something funny that you might not have caught before. It is filled with memorable quotes. "INCONCEIVABLE" "You Keep using that word, i dont think it means what you think it means" Tha acting is superb. Cary Elwes is great, Andre the Giant is hilarious, Mandy Potamkin is fabulous, even the villanous Christopher Guest has some funny lines. Each character was cast perfectly.

My only gripe about this product is that the DVD has nothing on it except the movie. Sure there is a trailor, and scene selection, but Where are the special features???? My advice is if youve never seen this movie then definitely buy the DVD. If youve seen the movie and own the VHS, stick with the VHS, theres no advantage to buying the DVD except for it being widescreen.

In conclusion: Great Movie, Horrible DVD

Summary: What a charming story!
Review: This has been one of my favorite movies for years, but we just picked up the dvd and watched it for the first time with the kids.

What a darling movie. The story is sweet, the characters are loveable (even the bad guys, in their own way), and the scenery is really pretty.

The movie focuses on loyalty, honor, love, and friendship. And some of the scenes are just so funny!

This is one that the kids will like, and the adults will enjoy, too. It's definitely a keeper! I recommend reading the book, too, after seeing the movie - the movie was cast so well, that I could see and hear the characters while I read.

This is one of the best!

Summary: One of the most quotable films ever made
Review: If you can watch this film and NOT find yourself muttering dialogue from the swordfight atop the Cliffs of Insanity or the challenge of wits for Buttercup's life, I have no idea what would appeal to you. For all its charms, what makes this movie is the unbridled sense of fun everyone seems to be having. It's a lively, inventive story with a great heart at its center. (It is, in fact, much more wholeheartedly optimistic than the book on which it is based -- it's interesting to see how Goldman created his own 'good parts' version of his book for the screen.) Great work here from Cary Elwes as Westley, Mandy Patinkin as Inigo, and everyone else in the cast.

Summary: A great fairy tale that deserves better!
Review: Considered as one of the best told fairy tale adventure, Princess Bride can be very fun at times even with it's limited budget. It has great characters and a very funny, touching but straightfoward plot. Cary Elwes is perfectly cast for the hero and which such actors like Mandy Patinkin, Andre the Giant, Christopher Guest, Billy Crystal(as the wonderful and sarcastic Miracle Max), Carol Kane and Peter Falk, you can't go wrong. The DVD in the other hand, did not do justice to the film. Picture quality is fine with very little signs of artifact and blocking. Color seems to be a little muted on the Pan and Scan version but other than that it's just perfect especially for a film this old. Now for the worse part: First, the widescreen is FAKE even if it's stated in the box that you see more information. The widecreen picture has better colour balance though. The actual film itself is pan and scan and then crop into widescreen. Second, the extras are near zero. The Criterion Laserdisc is packed tons of extra materials but we only get a measy trailer! IGN stated a box set special edition is coming next year. I guest i'll wait for that one. Overall, i can't really recommend this DVD to anyone except to fans of the film.

Summary: Five stars for the film, less one for the DVD
Review: This is easily a five-star movie, one of the funniest I've ever seen. Intelligent, well-acted, and hilarious (did I mention yet that this is a very funny movie), this movie includes a pair of great swordfights, two perfect breasts, a Sicilian, a Spaniard, an albino, a six-fingered man who may or may not have killed someone's father, several ROUS's (I don't really believe they exist), a rhyming giant (anybody want a peanut), shrieking eels, the cliffs of insanity, and, of course, the Dread Pirate Roberts. But the DVD is simply not up to par. This picture deserves -- no, demands -- an anamorphic transfer, well-mastered sound, and at least a few collector's edition extras. Rob Reiner was up to the task with his DVDs for Spinal Tap and When Harry Met Sally; it's a shame no one cared enough to insist on the same for The Princess Bride. That said, it sure watches a heck of a lot better than my 10-year-old videotape.

LATER EDITS: OK, so now I'm the loser who bought the DVD when it first came out, then bitched about it. Now, a year later, there's a new DVD release, the "collector's edition." Why are film companies such skunks? Release one version of a movie and do it right the first time. That way dedicated fans don't blow their money and then come to feel cheated within a year. It happens ALL THE TIME, and it STINKS!!! I'm sure MGM is laughing all the way to the bank ...

None of this changes the fact that it's a great movie, and I suppose the new DVD edition is worthy of the full five stars.

I'm not going to award it though, because I'm one of those suckers who got gypped into buying this cheap, crappy, money-grubbing pre-release.
