Summary: thank you! - dvd removes out of context dialogue
Review: One of the best movies of the 90's - the DVD removes the only drawback to the movie - - which were Hawkeye's 20th century wisecracks which seemed completely out of context and character. It was if Rambo suddenly took over Daniel Day Lewis' mouth for the moment; for others - and i know you are out there, who also were bothered by this, rest assured that they are removed.

Also - Clannad's insipid "I will find you" is also removed, as it was also a bit overdramatic. I am a Clannad fan, but I felt the music was out of place. Kudos for removing!

Summary: Very dissapointed in the DVD
Review: This is my all time favorite movie, but I was so dissapointed in the DVD version. There were some scenes that were cut out that should have been left in. If you have never seen this movie, I reccomend the VHS version, it is by far better than the DVD.

Summary: Great on VHS, so-so on dvd
Review: If you can still find the VHS version , get it. The DVD is missing a few key moments that were in the original theatrical release and the video. The Disc is ok, but why add some scenes and delete others? This Is DVD!! Put it all on there!!

Summary: A truly great film
Review: I truly love this movie. Michael Mann did a superb job of capturing the essence of the leather stocking tales. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who has read the James Fennimore Cooper novels or anyone who has interest in movies which contain beautiful cinematography shots.

Summary: Beautiful classic movie, but is it a disappointing DVD?
Review: This is one of my all time favorites, and when I began DVD collecting, this was the first one I bought. It's inspired me in my writing in so many ways, simply by stirring up the imagination.

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, the Last of the Mohicans is about Hawkeye, a white man raised by the Mohican people. The story is set in the French and Indian war in 1762, and follows Hawkeye as he meets Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe), the daughter of a soldier, and must save her time and time again. That's a very BRIEF nutshell of the story. I could go longer, but this review is about the DVD, not the story.

Those of you familiar with the book you had to read in high school--this version is quite different. In the book, Cora is a very bit part, with an unfortunate ending. The director has taken quite a bit of liberty, so if you're used to that story, this will seem like something out of a parallel universe to you. It's still really good and very watchable.

What made this movie, in my opinion, were 2 things. First, the Mohican triad of Day-Lewis, his father Chingachgook (played by activist Russell Means) and his brother Uncas (Eric Schweig) absolutely steal the movie. The 2nd thing is that this could not be a more beautiful historical movie! Everything is authentic, down to the clothing and guns, and it's obvious the directors did not skimp a dollar on the making of this movie. The scenery is gorgeous as well. It's shot in the mountains of Virginia (I believe) and long after I saw this movie, the wonderful scenery stayed with me. The soundtrack is amazing as well. I can't say enough good things about it.

So why only 4 stars? Well, the DVD version nettles me a bit. If you saw the movie in the theater, you'll notice that this version is a bit different. This is the 'director's cut' which means certain scenes were expanded, and others were modified or chopped. There's no 'original version' included on this DVD either. You get the director's vision or not at all. Me no likey. Also, the extras are extremely lacking. Other than getting to pick which scene you want, or if you want subtitles, you don't have any goodies to choose from. That really disappoints me as a huge fan of this movie, simply because I *want* to see all the little tidbits that didn't make it in. Oh well.

Summary: See this movie!
Review: The Last of the Mohicans is an awesome historic movie, but also a touching adventure. Not only is Daniel Lewis an awesome shooter, he is passionate and creative in this epic story of love and war. MUCH better than the book. The war scene's are very graphic, but sooooooooo wonderful. Not a Hollywood's version- the actual version. if you are looking for an awesome movie you will love an treasure forever, check out...... The Last of the Mohicans!!

Review: I really loved this movie. I'm not over 17 but I saw it in school. The war seens where a little to graphic. I also loved how there was not much love (kissy stuff) in it!! I would definitly recommend this to someone mature and interested!!

Summary: Disapoitned
Review: There are no spacial features to this DVD.If you want to see the entire move get the video. The director's cut is exactly that, it cut some of the dialogue. The movie it self is great just not this version.

Summary: Great Movie in VHS! Avoid the DVD!
Review: As a Daniel Day Lewis fan, this is a must see! As a movie fan in general, same response! Great acting by all in the cast (unusual in itself), beautiful cinematography, wonderful score (recommend that as well). One of the best on screen kisses, too.

Don't try to compare it to the book. Watch it for its own merits and avoid the DVD at all costs. They have edited out all the wonderful, memorable lines that make this a great movie.
