Summary: THX Quality? What quality!
Review: Fantastic film, one of my girlfriend's favourites, highly recommended viewing. But I found the DVD picture transfer very poor - especially as many scenes are at night - and the sound was not much better dialogue really got lost, very disppointing. Surely a THX badge should stand for better quality than this or what's the point? I advise you check out a friend's copy first before purchasing.

Summary: GREAT
Review: AUTHENTIC! Sets and dialogue we see a bit of history that seems to be void of Hollywood propaganda and political correctness, JUST THE HISTORICAL FACTS IN THE BACKDROP OF THE STORY! Wich seems to be so difficult for Hollywood to deal with and makes this movie so compelling not to mention the powerful music score Thanks Mr. Mann

Summary: Director's Expanded Edition a BIG Mistake
Review: Waited in great anticipation for the DVD release of this one. The Last of the Mohicans is a great movie enhanced with terrific music. The VHS widescreen version in THX is a wonderful piece of entertainment. Unfortunately, this Director's Expanded Edition has destroyed the flow and continuity of the original. In Director Michael Mann's attempt to supply us with his "definitive vision of the film" via his own editing, he has ignored the professional editors and provided us with a substandard version of what was a fine film. Several of the added clips have no musical sound track at all and come across as painfully awkward - making the viewer fully aware he/she is watching actors in front of a camera rather than immersing us in the action. There is even a series of scenes in the original (and VHS) that has a vocal music piece overlaid that has been completely omitted from the DVD. All in all, I was very disappointed in the DVD after having distinctive and memorable images etched in my mind from the original theater and VHS releases.

Summary: Among the finest films ever...
Review: A work of brilliance crafted from a work of brilliance. Strength, courage, culture, individuality. These are the themes on which the story is built. White man, red man, wo-man. We are all equal so long as we think with our own minds and speak with our own lips.

Cinematography and musical score equal the story's grandeur. I love this movie.

Summary: Last Of The Mohicans
Review: I've been waiting for this to come out on DVD for the longest time. It's one of the greatest movies made about Native Americans. Dances With Wolves is another good moive. Movies about Native Americans are more exciting and more realistic if Native American actors and actresses are a part of the movie. Also check out ThunderHeart.

Summary: Great story, great to see it on DVD!
Review: What else can be said for this movie? Emotional story line, beautiful cinematography, and superb score by Jones and Edelman. Added to this release are new scenes, although very little information is provided inside the disc about what has actually been changed (other than some last minute insert about the possibility of 'momentary jumps' in the picture where new material has been added). I didn't really see any of these in the film, so it is still fully watchable.

Overall, I'd give the movie a 5 stars, but the DVD loses a point for the lack of both insert material and more bonus features. All you really get is the interactive menus on this one. Still, an absolute must buy for fans of epic and inspirational film making.

Summary: Director's Cut? NOT!
Review: I want to say first and foremost that this is one of my all-time favorite films. That said, this version was hyped as being Michael Mann's definitive vison of this film and rumor had it that it was going to be released with 15 to 20 minutes of additional footage which would explain many things that were vague in the original theatrical release. Not only does it not deliver, but whoever edited this butchered some of the most classic lines in this particular film, which is unfortunate because they go a long way toward explaining the animosity Hawkeye has toward Major Duncan and the three mohican's hostility toward the British in general. The original release was 114 minutes runtime, this release says 117 minutes on the case but on the disc itself it says 114 minutes as well.

This was a great remake of a classic story but to claim this version is a director's cut is, in my mind, nothing short of false advertising and fraud, and would appear to be nothing more than a ploy to generate sales of a DVD during the fast approaching holiday season.

Summary: Disappointed in DVD version
Review: Besides Braveheart, this must be my favorite movie of all time. I must've watched it over 20 times! I bought it on VHS & have been long awaiting the DVD format. I finally got my DVD tonight & was very disappointed that some of the great music was left out! What happened to Clannad's performance of "I Will Find You" while Hawkeye is searching for Ms. Munro? That song is so haunting & I felt like it was a huge dis-service to fans of this movie to leave it out of the DVD version! So much for director's cuts. They seem to always stink - i.e., Blade Runner.

5 stars if they had left Clannad's song in.

Summary: One of the best films ever!
Review: One word(amazing). This film is a mile stone in every aspect from the accurate depictions of the native americans and their feeling of the white colonials, the style of warfare fought in the eighteenth century to the amzaing landscape that america once was. Immediately you are swept up in the story from the opening sequence to the mind blowing finale, the characters all of them are excellent from the afflicted Magua who Wes Studi portays flawlessly , Russel Means whose silent gazes and wordless expressions are incredible you can feel his sorrow. This movie remains one of my favorites and is one that I've worn out several VHS tapes from excessive usage during my ownership. A must have for anybody who enjoys moviemaking at its best.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: This movie was great. It is one of my all time top 10. I liked it a lot because it has a very big historical backround that makes the whole movie seem very real.

If you like movies about historical events, war, or romance. This is a really good movie to get. And you never get tired of watching it.
