Summary: Big Movie With Good Effects
Review: No it won't get 5 stars, since in the middle of the movie, I found myself falling asleep. A vampire like man needs a green eyed woman to marry him so he can become mortal again. Set in the chinatown district, this villain is a wizard and has 3 other men who try to help him reach his goal. Only problem is is that Kurt Russell and other men are sent in to rescue the girl. Will they make it? I won't say, but I will let you know that, besides the part where I got sleepy, overall this is a pretty good movie to watch.

Summary: Jack Burton: Greatest Hero since The Duke
Review: Big Troble In Little China is quite possibly one of the greatest Action Comedies of all time! The Action is thrilling and nearly every line is a memorable quote. You can tell that everyone in the cast& crew had a good time, and the viewer has a better one. If you don't own this movie you should buy it for yourself and one for your mother.

Summary: Welcome to the Hell of the Upside-Down Sinners!!
Review: The Critics shredded and diced this movie so I really went to the theatre expecting to see one sick puppy. Instead, I was delighted and I continue to be delighted every time I watch this marvelous movies. John Carpenter created an original howl of a time, with tongue firm planted through the cheek and simply went wild with fun and throw away lines, that will keep you coming back again and again. The Critics just did not get the JOKE!! Sigh...fortunately, the public did not agree.

A great cast Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, Kate Burton (Richard's Daughter), Victor Wong and James Hong take several wrong turns and end up in a war - kung fu style - kidnappings and all sorts "some very unreasonable things". Originally the manuscript for the second Buckaroo Banzai movie, Big Trouble hits bulls eye where BB just missed. It's over kill to the max, but such a great way to go as Jack Burton - Russell doing a BAD John Wayne Imitation - runs headlong into the magick underbelly of Chinatown. One critic put down Russell's performance as "was so poor, it was like he was doing a poor John Wayne imitation" WELL, DUH???? Earth to LM!!

Russell is taking Dennis Dun to pick up his bride to be, but she is mistakenly snatched. It's up to Russell, Dun, Wong and crew to try and get her back. Instead, they lose Kim Cattral to Hong as well as Burton's Peterbuilt "the Porkchop Express", so old Jack has to get mean.

If you don't want to laugh so hard your ribs hurt, you don't enjoy parodies, you don't enjoy bad John Wayne imitations...fine give it a pass. But everyone else wanting a great time, this is one you should not miss!

Summary: Awesome! The best Carpenter/Russell Film.
Review: This is my favorite Carpenter film. I love this movie and I remember watching it a long time ago. I think this is the best John Carpenter and Kurt Russell Film ever and I think the dvd is excellent. It has so many extras and the picture and sound are great too. I recommend anybody who is a fan of Carpenter and Russell as I am, to own this because it's a classic.

Summary: This movie rules!! Long live Jack Burton!!
Review: John Carpenter once again teams up with Kurt Russell to direct this awesome action/kung-fu/comedy. This is not your typical John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing, The Fog, etc.) flick, but I can't get enough, I've literally seen this over 100 times. Don't take this movie seriously, just sit back and enjoy the fun. Kurt Russell stars as Jack Burton a trucker who stops in Chinatown for a little wholesome gambling. After winning everything but the kitchen sink from his buddy Wang Chi, Jack Burton goes for a ride with Wang expecting to collect his winnings. They stop at the airport to pick up Wang's girlfriend with green eyes, Miao Yin. Miao Yin gets kidnapped by a group of kung-fu thugs, and Jack Burton is forced to go along with Wang Chi to try and save her. They end up in the middle of a gang war in Chinatown, meet the main villain "undead" Lo Pang and his three spirit warriors: Rain, Thunder, and Lightning. (they inspired Rayden, the Mortal Kombat video game character) After running over Lo Pan, leaving Jack's truck and escaping Lo Pan and his cronies, Jack teams up with Wang, green eyed reporter Gracie Law, (Kim Cattrell) and friends Eddy and Egg to save Miao Yin and Jack's truck. (the Porkchop express) Many wacky and supernatural things happen along the way, and the plot just gets crazier and funnier. Kurt Russell is the standout in this movie, he has some incredibly funny lines, but the other characters especially Lo Pan are funny as well. Highly recommended to any Kurt Russell, 80's comedy, or kung-fu fan with a sense of humor. Just remember have fun!

Summary: Only thing missing is the kitchen sink!
Review: (Instead of reviewing a film you probably already know, I stick the DVD special features)

Those Extras:

Commentary: A lot of fun. You get Carpenter and Russell together and it's giggle city. Kurt's infectious laugh is almost all that's needed to recommend this. Though they stray from the film too much, they always catch themselves.

Deleted Scenes: Plenty to chew on. Mostly extensions of scenes we already know.

Behind the Scenes: A quickie featurette from the set in '86. Most of it was done during the alley sequence early in the film, so not a lot to get into.

Misc: Tons of little things are real eye openers: interview with FX guy Edlund; so dopey it's hilarious music video featuring Carpenter(!) not only rocking out, but singing to the film's theme!; I usually don't mention trailers but there are six(!!) to choose from, even the pay-per-view one!

Overall: Not many others will rival what this one has to offer. Some bloopers and new interviews would've made it flawles, but as it is, no complaints.

Summary: A Great Time For All.....
Review: I wasn't really sure what to make of this at first. Being a John Carpenter admirer, I was expecting an all-actioner but was kinda surprised to see it getting a bit goofy in parts. So maybe it was supposed to be a comedy? Actually, it is an excellent combination of the two and the kind of thing cult movies are made of. The majority of reviewers here rave about this film so I wont repeat their sentiments. I'd just like to mention the audio commentary by director Carpenter and star Kurt Russell. These guys clearly have a good time together and this will rub off on you, the viewer. Guaranteed!! It's very funny and informative and Kurt's laugh is infectious. This extra feature is worth the price of admission alone. Get the 2-disc set if you can find one. It's silly, fast-moving entertainment that only the most cynical of you wont have a good time with. Highly recommended.

Summary: Great Movie!!!
Review: This movie is funny! The martial arts is old school (which means it's superb) and Kurt Russell is lovable and funny as well. The story is pure fantasy but it keeps moving along at a nice pace.

Summary: Russel makes it
Review: The other reviewers are right when they talk about what a goofy, dumb movie this is - but Kurt Russel's Jack Burton is a delight, first appearing as a boastful lout, but gamely living up to his apparent belief that he's not really bragging, but actually a great adveturer. Jack Burton actually holds up his end pretty well, and the righteous prevail. Besides, the old man stands up for him - and that old man is no dummy. This is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Summary: Take a ride on the Porkchop Express
Review: I've always been a John Carpenter fan.. sure, his films aren't always the biggest hits, but they're inevitably well-crafted and entertaining. Moreover, they're always better than you'd think possible, given the subject matter. Big Trouble in Little China is a classic example. I'd only seen it a few times before, piecemeal and probably on USA at 2 o'clock in the morning. What a tragedy. This film is a national treasure.

Why? Everything about it is absurd..and purposefully so. Try to read the plot aloud without laughing: A mullet-wearing truck driver teams up with his Chinese-American buddy to battle ancient Chinatown demons commanded by the ethereal 2000 year old Lo Pan and rescue their respective green-eyed (would-be) girlfriends, all with the aid of local magician/tour bus driver Egg Sheng and his lazy-eyed sorcery.

Yet, somehow, it all works perfectly. Kurt Russell is a riot as Jack Burton, a bumbling and inept, yet surprisingly hardy, truck driver with a lot of buddies in Chinatown who has to take on a world of Chinese legends. His loud-mouthed bravado at all times (presumably he's intended to be a classic jerk American foreign devil) forms the basis for his irrepressible camaraderie with the other heroes in the movie. He may have no idea what he's doing, but darn it he's gonna do it anyway. Some folks may be misled (as I was by the USA Up All Night tidbits) into thinking this was some sort of cheesy martial arts film. It isn't. This is a flat-out comedy that just happens to involve a lot of swordfights, demons, and electrical discharges. Some classic examples of the typical humor drenching the film include 1) several Chinese elders and mystics sitting around a table discussing ancient curses while Jack Burton shouts at his insurance carrier about the loss of his big rig truck in the background, 2) At the start of the climactic pitched battle, Jack Burton, in a fit of adrenaline-stoked fury, fires wildly into the air with his gun and dislodges a rock from the ceiling that knocks him unconscious, 3) Jack Burton facing off against evil demonlord Lo Pan while wearing lipstick from his smooching of one of the female love interests.

And I haven't seen a film this packed with quotable comments since Predator: "Great, a six-demon bag! What's it do, Egg?" "Are you crazy? Is that what your problem is?" "... and let me drive right over him? With light coming out of his mouth?!" "Whaddya mean there's no listing? There better be, honey, 'cause I pay 'em 6 grand a year in premiums."

In short, Big Trouble in Little China is a great Saturday afternoon sort of film.. a refreshing treat that proves surprisingly satisfying by the end.
