Summary: Not recommended for the average moviegoer.
Review: I saw this the first day of its release in theaters and I must say I had a good time even though I know it stinks.
I give it 3 stars as a compromise because the right side of my brain wants to give it 5 stars for the guts it took JC to make such a messed-up, low-budget, gore-fest in the PC year of 2001 and the left side of my brain would give it a 1 star because no person in their right mind could like this trash.
I'm glad I'm not one of those people!

Summary: John Carpenter's Ghost of Himself
Review: This movie is a total disappointment. It is amazing that after looking the script over, Natasha Henstridge, Ice Cube, and others joined Carpenter in this endeavor. There is nothing to cheer about. Many comparisons are being made to Assault on Precinct 13. Assault on Precinct 13 was gritty and realistic. Halloween was scary and cutting edge. I thought Carpenter was getting Alzheimers when he put Escape from LA out. Now, I'm sure of it.

Summary: Amazing...
Review: Ok, so it isn't going to get any big awards but I loved how bad it was. These kinds of movies can't be reviewed by people who only give Pearl Harbor like movies a 5. This is a horror movie. It has allot of the cliches and sexy girls you want to see. You have a bad guy who talks like he has a pine cone in his mouth. Next to no character development. Cheesy lines. Natasha looking, well you get the picture. It doesn't get a 5 because too much of the movie was over the top bad. His best film was "Big Trouble in Little China" which actually was a great movie with great laughs and great acting pushing these kinds of movies to perfection. This movie missed on many levels and was slightly dissapointing because I was expecting "Big Troulbe in Space". But it is worth seeing if you like cheesy sci-fi horror films.

Review: A very good action flick about police officers who go to Mars to pick up a dangerous prisoner (Ice Cube) and find out everybody in that area was killed by ghosts that possesed human bodies. Starring: Ice Cube, Natasha Henstridge, Jason Statham, Pam Grier,

Summary: SAVE YOUR MONEY
Review: Natasha Henstridge plays an extremely sexy (suprise), if somewhat emotionless cop sent to an outpost on Mars to transport a prisoner. Only things go terribly, terribly wrong (surprise). As it turns out the Martians have been living underground waiting to exact their revenge on humans who keep crashing space probes into their pristine planet. Once released they find human hosts, file down their teeth so they'e a bit more menacing, and do their imitations of extras in an Ed Wood movie (sorry, Ed). Ghosts of Mars sucks. None of the cast muster up much emotion fighting off the Martians. No time whatsoever is spent explaining who the Martians are, why they had to go underground, and why they're so grumpy when they wake up. That could have been an interesting movie. As it is, this is a generic action movie set in space where the characters sleepwalk through their motions. The dialogue sounds so flat I daresay my cat Waveguide could have written something more interesting and she speaks only one word. Even the sets are so boring they look like something from a 60s TV series. If you must see it, wait for it to come out on video. You shouldn't have too wait long.

Summary: John Carpenter does it again
Review: To be honest, being a big fan of John Carpenter, "Ghosts of Mars" sounded slightly dubious to me when I heard that it would star Ice Cube and, in South Park terms, "The Chick from Species". John Carpenter, being the master of cinema and suspense that he is (disagree with me and I'll set Snake Plissken on your ...), pulled the film off. Great atmosphere and an intriguing flashback system truly entertains, with some good old fashioned violence thrown into the mix for good measure.

I must admit, the film drops in quality everytime Ice Cube fills up the screen and coughs up some cheesy line... JC should have got Kurt Russel to play the role. Obviously, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and its already flopped at cinemas and been bagged by critics - but I believe "Ghosts of Mars" will be appreciated somewhat more in a few years time, which seems to be the trend with most JC films.

As it is, its turned out to be the best film this year. I just hope John Carpenter continues to take chances and make the movies he wants to make.

Summary: Uh, is everyone talking about the correct film here?
Review: I saw this movie today and all I have to say is what a complete waste of my time. The acting was so incredibly horrible. Usually I am very easy going on movies but I have to tell you that this is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time.

I have read a few reviews here and some have stated being a very good film. I totally disagree. Don't even wait for the DVD.

Summary: Sucked!!!!!!!
Review: What are you people babbling about, this was he worst movie I have ever seen. I had to contain myself not to walk out of the theater. PLEASE DONT GO SEE THIS! Save you money. Its sooo borring, violent and unneeded.
I saw this only because Oger Ebert gave it 3 stars and a thumbs up. I no longer go by his reviews!
The Story is horrible, and the Special FX are just foul to look at. Every thing looks so fake and cheesy: The planet looks like a set. The train moves at 1mph. Buildings blow up for no reason. Bad acting all around....oh and if you dont like flashbacks......hahahahahahhahaa.
SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Ghosts is nothing new, but it sure is a fun ride!
Review: In Assault on Precinct 13 John Carpenter combined Night of the Living Dead and Rio Bravo into a tense, violent, and exciting urban crime thriller. In the Ghosts of Mars John Carpenter combines Night of the Living Dead and Rio Bravo into a tense, violent, and exciting horrific sci-fi/western thriller.
A unit of the Mars Police Force (shades of the United States Police Force in Escape from New York) head out to an isolated mining town to collect James 'Desolation' Williams and bring him in for murder charges. Desolation claims the brutal murders were in self defense.
Guess what, they were. Turns out the mining colony has been infested with Martian spores that do not react kindly to human infestation. The spores possess humans and turn them into body piercing rabid dogs that slaughter non-possessed humans. The surviving cops and cons have to band together and fight to escape the alien menace. It's an exciting ride that, sadly, falls apart in the last twenty or so minutes. Not helping is that Carpenter simply reshoots his final shot of Assault on Precinct 13 with snappy dialog as this film's closing moment. It does not ruin the movie, just keeps it from being a 'comeback' for Carpenter. Recommended for those who like their action without glossy special effects. The music rocks, to be expected from a teaming of John Carpenter and the heavy metal group Anthrax.
And I could not help but notice how Ghosts of Mars resembled Stephen King's Desperation in concept and setting. It makes me wonder if naming the character Desolation was a form of in-joke?
