Summary: Good, but Could Have Been More Original
Review: "Biker Boyz" was a pretty good movie in that the motorcycle racing scenes were very captivating. It's obviously just like "The Fast and the Furious" except motorcycles are used instead of cars. Some may say that the plot was sort of thin and unoriginal, but in some aspects it was very interesting. There were a few suprises in there that dropped my jaw, but overall I would say that this is a cool movie to watch that doesn't make you think too hard. It is quite entertaining and the performances by Laurence Fishburne, Derek Luke, Lisa Bonet, Brendan Fehr, and Larenz Tate were really good. Even Kid Rock did a good job!

I would suggest this film to people who liked "The Fast and the Furious." They're the same type of exciting action-packed dramas.

Summary: Wasn't as bad as expected; but still pretty bad
Review: ...

My Comments:
I was really expecting a very shallow movie that was all about big bikes and other big parts of human anatomy. I wasn't really disappointed, but I was surprised that the sexual content was minimized (though the objectification of women was not, though there was at least one attempt to objectify a man too) and that there was an attempt to create a story here.

Of course, the story wasn't very good, but I have to at least give them some credit for trying. There are a number of plot holes and coincidences in the story that just don't make much sense. The archaic twist that Kid is really Smoke's son wasn't at all surprising - this has been done a million times (Star Wars). Kid also illustrates that he has virtually no morals when he tells his mother that he won't race anymore then turns around and races about 2 days later. There's also the race with Dogg, which just kind of happens without any explanation. It's kind of obvious that this is really just an attempt to keep Kid Rock involved with the movie. And worst of all is the sudden change in Kid's attitude when he wins the race; as though beating your dad will make everything better... I don't know who came up with this idea, but it was pretty silly.

As for the acting, Lawrence Fishburne is a pretty good actor, so he actually had a positive influence on this movie. Derek Luke, on the other hand, has a lot of growing to do. Especially bad was his scene with Tina (Meagan Good), where he goes from not having a relationship with her at all to suddenly making love to her - I didn't see that coming. There was no development of their relationship. One minute Tina is telling him she doesn't even know who he is and the next she is going for a ride of her own. Some of the other peripheral actors, Soul Train (Orlando Jones) and Motherland (Djimon Hounsou) in particular, were pretty good, but they didn't have to do much.

I should also note that despite the majority of the characters being black, this doesn't really fit into the 'black movie' genre, at least, not entirely. Whereas movies like 'Friday After Next' are full of Ebonics and black-oriented jokes, this is a pretty straightforward mainstream movie that doesn't seem to be catering specifically to a black audience. I was a little surprised by this considering the predominantly black cast, but probably shouldn't have been. Because I have never really been able to appreciate black-oriented humor (I'm sorry, I just don't get it), I found the lack of it in this movie to be a relief.

Overall, I don't think I would really recommend this movie, but if you like motorcycles, you might enjoy it. Some of the acting is okay, but most of it isn't. And the story, well, it's horrible. I watched it because I thought it was going to be horrible and because it claimed to be better than 'The Fast and the Furious'. I don't really think it was, but then again neither movie was really all that good, so it doesn't mean much either way.

Review: ....You'll see what will develop in the plot a mile or two away. But that won't get in the way of your enjoyment of this speed fest featuring L. Fishburn, Orlando Jones (a MC gang mouthpiece called Soul Train who turns out to be a lawyer), Kid Rock, Lawrenz Tate and....Hillman College kids (? Whaaaat!? They became MC gang members?) Kadeem Hardison and ueberbabe Lisa Bonet. Actually, Bonet was Zen-ing on her own thing and the cast and crew were invited to film photos of her and with her. Just kiddin'. Anyhoo, I love the speed and I love the stunts the younger moto cyclists performed. I dig also the loads of leathers...

Review: ...a dull movie! This movie was nothing short of a collosal flop! Can anyone tell me one thing that was good about this movie? Oh yeah, the ending, that was great, you know...the part when the credits started rolling! I love that part! I had to make myself finish this movie. I can't really explain why I didn't like this movie, but something about the horrible acting and the lack of an interesting story or plot just really made me want to throw this piece of garbage where it belonged, in the garbage. I RENTED IT AND GOT RIPPED OFF!!!

Review: ...this is not. That is not the point. The entire point of this type of movie is to entertain. To suspend belief, and enjoy the film on its own merits.

Back in the 1980s, most films were completely absurd. They were laid-back, have-fun flicks.

Then in the late 90s came what I term, the "Art-Core" genre, where *EVERY* film is required to have some sort of cheesy, Intro Humanities class philosophy and absurd camera work to make it a viable form of entertainment. The problem is, most of us have taken that as what to expect, and so when a film comes along that is not fitting to this mold, we scorn and reject it.

Come on, the "Z" on the end of "BOYZ" alludes to the lack of serious discourse in this film. At what point (for those of you giving bad reviews) were you convinced this was going to be an Oscar-Calibre motion picture? It's obviously not, so rate it on its merits.

It is a cheesy, no-brainer action flick. A fantasy story in a modern-day setting.

So what if the biker culture portrayed doesn't exist? Neither did the "outlaw" biker-hippie culture before "Easy Rider", inkeeping with that film's cult status.

Biker Boyz, if you are looking for somebody's cliche'd philosophical ramblings, or avant-garde cinematography, falls short.

Biker Boyz, if you are looking for good, clean, brainless action, excells beautifully.

Great, *if* you are capable of sitting back, relaxing, and putting aside all that artsy-shmartsy nonesense that purvades nearly every film released nowadays.

Review: a going-nowhere movie. trying too hard to be cool and a wannabe of the genre of fast and furious but just failed in a hollow black hole. don't know how and where all these donogooders could afford so many and so expensive bikes, or they were just provided by the producer? rented? or leased? you think that fast speed and thought-to-be cool graphics would make you keep your interest undying? sorry, senor, i fell asleep so many times and tried to keep awake by nodding my butthead uncontrollablely during those meaningless bike racing or chasing or whatever and stupid dialogues.

Review: A GROUP OF YOUNG OFFICE WORKERS COMPETE AGAINST EACH OTHER EVERY WEEKEND ON THE UNDERGROUND MOTORCYCLE RACING CIRCUIT. HAS SOME GOOD RACES, NICE LOOKING MOTORCYCLES, AND SOME GOOD STUNTS. BUT, EVERYTHING THAT GOES ON IN BETWEEN THE RACES ARE BORING. HAS SOME GOOD ACTORS IN ITS CAST, BUT EVEN LAURENCE FISHBOURNE CAN'T SAVE THIS ONE FROM BEING A LOSER. ESCAPES ONE STAR RATING DUE TO SOME GOOD RACES. THIS IS A MOVIE YOU CAN AFFORD TO MISS.

Review: Biker Boyz did a great job of highlighting the African Amrerican sport bike racing culture. Nice bike scenes with a family tie in. I have missed Reggie Rock Bythewood's work since Fox took the original NY Undercover of the air.
Well done.

Review: Biker Boyz is an extraordinary film that captured an important peice of motorcycle culture. This film has a host of all star cameos and does well with its story telling and flow of the movie. This film completely does it's job. It entertains you. This film will more than likely turn into, if not already, a cult classic. Check it out!
