Summary: Life beats you down, but you gotta get up again.
Review: After a robbery goes bad, Gloria's(Jolie) brother dies and Johnny(Phifer) is taken to prision for 5 years. When he is released, Gloria seeks the skills of her chaotic boyfriend Boyle(Whitworth) to kill Johnny. Boyle knows the truth about her brother's dealth and doesn't have the nerve to kill Johnny. Johnny tries turning his life around and becomes a very sucessful boxer.

This movie does an excellent job of showing how people ending up handling those tragic events that most of us hear about on the news. The death of a friend rehabilitates some, while driving others deeper into obscurity.

There are some cool sound effects in certain parts of the movie that help you to feel the craziness experienced by each character. The ending was a bit too "Hollywood everything's great now", fortunately it didn't ruin the movie.

Summary: Pretty Bad: For Jolie Fans Only - And Then That's Pushing It
Review: I'm an Angelina Jolie fan - have been for years, however...this movie is pretty bad. And not a good kind of bad, but plain old bad. Bad story, bad writing, bad acting, bad lighting, bad looping, bad editing. Get the idea? What it comes down to is - The story stumbles around all over itself and unfortunately, Angelina isn't that good in it. She pouts a lot and tries real hard to project angst, but that's not worth the cost of a purchase. Your local video store probably has a couple of copies of this in stock - I suggest you rent it before you consider buying it - even for the die hard Jolie fan. If you're a completist - and just need to own/have everything Angelina Jolie has been in - okay, then it's a must have, otherwise - pass on it.

Best Regards, turtlex

Summary: DEEP- Those who don't like it fear it.
Review: This is an amazing work. As always great work from Anglina. This movie is def. gritty. It's a street life movie for real. If you don't like it, you fear it. Yes it tells it like it is. This movie is excellent. Highly recommended for those who want a reality check.

Summary: ...only see if you are a die-hard Angelina fan...
Review: This movie is probably the worse movie I have ever seen. I know it sounds harsh--but it's absolutely true. I only rented it to see Angelina Jolie. I got so bored while watching the beginning that I started to fast forward only to her parts. The movie was very dark and I was like "I can't even see her face!" Oh, it's such a bad movie it makes me want to shove my finger in my brain. Hah, that might sound gross but that's how bad this movie is. Don't see it unless you love Jolie, or any actress or actor you may favor in the movie.

Summary: those reviews are a joke...
Review: Those reviews must be a joke!

OK.. It's hard to see the faces during the robbery...
.. ok .. at the start you're not quite sure who the character are..
..but it's no Mulholland drive....
Only a dope would fail to be follow the intricate story line
or be touched by the depth of the characters.
This is one fo the best films I've ever seen.
None of your usual Hollwood tripe. The characters are gritty.
The story is disturbing.
But it's one hell of an experience.

Summary: The most disappointing movie I've ever seen
Review: To be blunt about it, this movie is an embarrassment. It is surprising that such quality actors such Angelina Jolie, William Forsythe and Mekhi Phifer would choose to attach their name to a script that is vague and repetitive at best. Rosanna Arquette even manages to sink lower in this shocking attempt at a drama, dropping from her usual B-grade performance to something that might be expected from the star of a D-grade movie.

It's fairly difficult to drag any positives from this almost painful movie; Angelina Jolie tries to carry the weak plot and uninspired camera-work but appears to be only half-hearted in her portrayal of a grieving sister seeking to avenge her brother's tragic death.

The area in New York that is known as Hell's Kitchen has been successfully portrayed in other movies, most notably in Nicholas Cage's 'Bringing out the Dead'. However, his 'Gone in 60 Seconds' co-star is most unfortunately involved in something far from gripping, dramatic or emotional, which one must assume is what the director had in mind.

All in all, a very poor movie which doesn't do justice to some of the fascinating stories that could no doubt come out of 'Hell's Kitchen'; but don't worry Angelina - we still love you!
