Summary: Great movie--BAD DVD!!
Review: Swordsman II is one of my all time favorite martial arts movies--the movie itself I'd give 5 stars. HOWEVER...this DVD edition is TERRIBLE! The picture quality isn't bad, hence my 2 stars, but the english translation is just AWFUL! Not only are there typos in the subtitles (example: two characters are galloping along on horses, one says, "just keep RIDDING!"), but there are many other blatant errors. Brigitte Lin's great Asia the Invincible is called "Invinvible Dawn" on this DVD. Take a look at the title on the DVD cover here, it's SWORD-MAN not Swordsman--they didn't even get the cover right! As a film, this is fantastic though, and not to be missed. So, unless you can understand Mandarin and/or Cantonese and don't need the English subtitles, please buy the VHS version, you'll be much happier! Don't miss this great movie, just don't try the DVD.

Summary: Good stuff..
Review: The best "fantasy" Hong Kong flick ever. Crouching Tiger Hidden Wire can't even compete (even though I loved that movie too.) For the decade or so it's been out, Swordsmans 2 has never been surpassed and it probably never will be. Jet Li gives an equally good performance here (if not better) as he did in Fist of Legend. Swordsmans 2 is a classic for any movie lover.

Summary: One of the Best Wuxia (swordman) films EVER!!!
Review: The excellence of this film is difficult to convey. It can be enjoyed on so many different levels. First of all, the swordfight sequences are all dazzling and handled effortlessly by the venerable Tsui Hark and company. They almost make it look easy. From start to finish, there isn't one dull moment. However, the reason I loved this film so much was for the emotional level. Swordman II easily contains veteran Chinese actress Brigette Lin's finest and most stunning performance as "Asia the Invincible". Her ambiguous and ultimately tragic relationship with the main character (Ling Hu Chong, played by Jet Li) is handled with pure craft and skill by the actress. Brigette Lin perfectly conveys both the sexual ambiguity and undeniable feminine allure exuded by her character. Her fascinating and complex relationship with Jet Li's character is both delicious and disturbing to watch. Even after the breath-taking fight scenes, it is that relationship that will keep you thinking about the movie long afterwards. That said, I must warn Western viewers that this is a fairly "hardcore" Chinese movie, filled with references to Chinese culture and mythology. Think of it as the Chinese version of Lord of the Rings. It's a self-contained universe that a Chinese viewer would easily accept and understand, but Western viewers might find it a little hard to swallow. I recommend that Westerners just starting out to opt for some of the "softer" Chinese movies that are more suitable for Western consumption. However, once you've got the "hang" of it, treat yourself to this masterpiece of Chinese Hong Kong cinema.

Summary: Cool Movie, [awful] DVD
Review: The Legend of the Swordsman (aka Swordsman 2) is one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen in my life. This version (The Legend of Swordsman) is missing 8 minutes of film--they cut 8 minutes of FREAKING FILM from the original movie. Also, these guys were sooo lazy, they didn't even bother to include the original language track on the DVD. Instead, you can only listen to a HORRIBLE dubbed version of this movie. The video transfer is on the mediocre side too.

Summary: They ruined a beautiful film
Review: The new subtitles are huge, ugly and wrong. The VHS version was much better. An example of the changes is that the antagonist, Asia the Invincible, is now called Dawn. The new subtitles make the movie stupid. I highly reccomend this film in VHS but cannot reccomend the DVD version. Save your VHS players for this one or wait until Tai Seng gets it right.

Summary: An Excellent Film
Review: The second Swordsman film is one of the best wuxia films I have ever seen. The action is incredible, the cinematography is beautiful, and the performances are strong. This movie is quite simply one of Jet Li's best and is far superior to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Do not miss it and buy it now!!

Summary: Awesome martial arts fantasy...
Review: There's not much I can say that others haven't, but I did want to tell you that you should watch this movie with the original language and the subtitles, otherwise it may not make any sense. I own the VCD version of this movie and I first watched it on my computer's DVD player. No subtitles, so I had no idea what was being said. A year later I pop it into my regular DVD player and suddenly I see subtitles. They made the difference with this movie. I now understand why one of the characters was laughing all the time and it made the movie much more enjoyable. That's why I always play chinese movies in original language and read subtitles. I've found that English dubbing can really botch the original dialogue with adlibbing and incorrect translations (perfect example is Wing Chun). This movie is one of my favorites. 5 stars, Brigitte Lin--need I say more?

Summary: A Great HK Epic
Review: This film is excellent. It has great action sequences, great actors, and great cinematography. So why only 4 stars?! The DVD is junk. The subtitles are messy (expect to watch the movie a couple of times before you know what is going on) and the sound is funky. The picture quality is pretty good. When I tried to start the movie from the very beginning, my DVD player was unable to read the disc, so I have to select the first chapter and rewind. I hope someone like Columbia Tri-Star buys the rights to this movie, redoes the subtitles, and puts out a DVD.

Summary: Excellent Movie
Review: This has been one of the best movies I've ever seen. The music is effectively choreographed to convey the melancholy mood and modified to express anxiety in different situations.

But my number one reason for liking this movie is because of Asia the Invincible. Lin Ching Hsia does a great job portraying the character. With a glance or a stare, she portrays power and confidence. And with a flick of her wrist, she can bring death with just needles. Where else can you find a character with such power and skills ?!?!

If you haven't seen the first part, you might be a little confused. But this movie is great for its content only too...great music and great actors !!

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This is great kung fu fantasy action. The non stop action will keep you grounded to your seat wanting to find out what's next! The story tells about a young swordsman Ling (Jet Li) who wants to get away from all the fighting taking place between two sects but how he and his clan gets pulled back into it. In his hurry to get away from it all he starts falling in love with the enemy who is really a man but has the power to change into a beautiful woman who likes drinking wine as much as Ling does.
