Summary: Good acting... but very disappointing!
Review: First I must say that I am a *BIG* fan of mafia/ganster books and movies. Often you will find that bad reviews are given by people who are not fans of the genre (ie. they were never really interested in seeing the film in the first place) -- this is not the case with me. After reading all of the reviews on this site I thought that I had found a real winner. What I found was a movie that dragged on far too long and had a ridiculous plot. The movie is so bad that it isn't worth elaborating. I seem to be far out-numbered in my view on this movie but I stand by it!

Summary: Pacino, a National Treasure...
Review: This 1980's version of SCARFACE is so compelling, that many viewers will be thinking of it for the rest of their lives. The story of a "Street-wise" Mariel Boat lift Cuban, X-prisoner, who is picked up by immigration in South Florida, and after some inner dealings in the holding facility, is released onto the streets of Miami. It documents the "rags-to-riches" story of Tony Montana, from flipping burgers, to obtaining international Drug-lord status; with virtually unlimited riches in his warchest, the key word being: war. Quite possibly, the best film ever made, it features a hypnotic performance by Robert Loggia, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfiefer and of course, the 20th Centuries all-time best performance by Al Pacino as the Cuban, complete with heavy accent and haircut. The look of the film is "beautiful-eighties", complete with the Miami-pastel colored backdrop, and the music floating around at the right moments. Note: PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE 3 MINUTE PERFORMANCE OF TONY'S MOTHER - It is so remarkable, you can almost see Pacino's admiration for this actress in his facial expressions on film!

SCARFACE
Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio 1983

Synopsis
This movie follows the violent career of a small-time Cuban refugee hoodlum (Tony Montana) who guns his way to the top of Miami's Cocaine empire.

My Review
Way too much shooting and killing to be interesting. Too long at nearly 3 hours, and there is no real plot, except for the fact that Montana gets rich smuggling drugs.

Summary: disturbing
Review: bloody gory extravagant alluring and very zealous in its portrayal of america. a lot of people cant get over the eighties pastiche quality that the movie holds but if that is the most obvious flaw then you are definately a victim of poor taste, that is almost as bad as saying that you hate john ford because he made westerns. that is what makes the movie what it is. you have to understand the era and the mentality of these men and there times. this movie is not strictly about cubans or latin americans a lot of it is across the board being of E.O my self i find the attitude in the majority of new immigrants transported to the west they want to look to a new hope and work towards something better (like tonys mother) but there are always those who are just out for the world. in urban areas of the world the most frightening and compelling reaction to this film is the imitation the message of dishonourable death at the end is always overlooked and the poor and deprived youth see it as the martyrdom the legend. they all want to be michael corleone holding the family under the wing and replacing the father as the new and improved. protecting there investment commanding through a system of respect and tradition. but the reality is excess obsession double standards vicious jealousy and betrayal and for most of these bright young hopes is either a visit to the funeral director or the iron hotel. a superb movie but the message is too confused de palma is having too much fun with sub machine guns, chainsaws, uzi machines, knives, laundry bags filled with money, and piles of cocaine. de palma maybe the most stick and paste director that you ever saw but you must understand that it is not all howard hawks, besides how many ancient italian mobsters can you take we need too see where this vile world which controls our terrible primevil fantasies of tyranny and violence is going. respect is no longer the hand that rocks the cradle. it is cash and bullets. the will to do what the other guy wont. BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT IT IS ONLY FANTASY IT AINT REAL HOMIE.

Summary: Leaves a Lasting Impression but can you handle it?
Review: I first saw this movie with my father when I was 17 when it first came out. The violence and language made me feel uncomfortable (being with him) but I couldn't stop watching it anyway because it is an interesting story, with interesting characters. I think Al Pacino was born to play the lead character Tony in this movie - he plays it that well.

Seeing what happens to Tony in the end serves as an example how drugs can change your life for the worse. Even though drugs allowed him to rise to the heights of financial success, they were also his ultimate undoing. This is a powerful message told in this movie, and was one I think influenced me in a positive way in my adult life. This is one of the reasons I rate it five stars, Al Pacino is the other.

Do not watch this movie if you don't have a stomach for graphic violence or the "F" word in every other sentence. This language certainly builds a strong persona of Tony and it would be a completly diffent movie without it. If you think you can handle it, then you should take a look at this film for the story that it tells in a very dramatic fashion. Al Pacino is great, and Michelle Pfiefer looks great!

FYI, Tony's Sister (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) went on to be the lead woman in "The Abyss".

Summary: An amazing sweeping , and intensely violent crime epic.
Review: If The Godfather was the father of all mobster movies , then Scarface quite easily is the father of all crime dramas. Director Brian De Palma does for crime what Francas Ford Coppela did for mobster movies in The Godfather. The film was totally a reviewers ballistic feild day in it's release in winter of 1983, reviews trashed it because the use of exccesive violence still even today Scarface stands as the most violent movie ever made in the history of Hollywood.Al Pachino gives an energetic and intense performance as Cuban refugee Tony Montana who on a boat shipping over with his partner.

In the course of the film Tony goes from a lowly diswasher to a crak cocaine cezar with entire control over a 100 millon dollar a year empire.Tony loves the attention and power of his newfound dinasty for one short moment the world is his to do with as he pleases, with a beautiful wife who he does not care for or love , and a sister who he loves even more then his

empire but feels searing and firey jealousy for , and his only true friend his parter , he tries to grapple with the problems of his empire settling his problems with often violent ways.

But with his enimeys close by and the consiquences of his empire closing in on him.His past finally confronts him into all out war with the columbians but Tony is so addicted to his own prouduct that created his empire in the first place that he dosen't even realize that he is about to face his own worst enimey no bullit will bring Tony down, in the end he creates his own pathetic demise and looses in his own private war but the world will remember him as one name Scarface.

Weither you like this movie or not you cannot help but but be swept into a world of power and consiquences the violence is not pointless it is part of the story weither you like it or not Scarface created a new fresh genere of moviemaking that this movie will be rememberd for for long to come who hasn't spat out lines from this movie in it's poetic vison of a god and his drug empire Brian De Palma brings out the best of Al Pachino and his acting abilitys and how fun is it to see Al Pachino play the villan that everyone loves to hate, with a worth while docu mentary on the making of Scarface this movie is worth adding to your DVD collection for mere fact that it is one of Pachino's best films and because it is an intensly satisfying classic.

Review: best movie ever...this movie has a ton of balls...goes well with a cohiba and a bottle of rum

Summary: Best Pacino movie ever!
Review: The is absoulutely the best Pacino movie i've seen in my opinion. I give De Palma most of the credit to this movie's success and other actors. This gritty drama focuses around a Cuban immigrant's rise to the top of the cocaine/crime business. He becomes rich and powerful, what most people want to be in this world and successful. But at the beginning of the movie he goes through hardships and problems that distract him from achieving his goal. So in a way most people can relate to this b/c life for most people is an everyday struggle. And this movie shows that even when you're at the top all things won't go your way. The end of this movie proves that. SCARFACE, a classic for all times!

Summary: GREAT movie....crappy DVD
Review: I want to definately say that Scarface is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its a classic. But I'm not rating the movie here am I? No im rating the DVD. I only give this four stars because the movie basically makes the BIG flaws go away in the end. First of all, the transfer is awful. What kind of reel did you guys transfer that from? Jeez...disgraseful(hehe)...the audio track is ok...and there absolutely no extras. Overall, you should buy this movie if and only you like it. The dvd features are crap. Wheres the new transfer and the DTS for this huh?
