Summary: Good Action bad Vibe
Review: I think the biggest asset to this picture is a little known actor that played several cameos in this movie. Steve Noyes is his name and he adds credibility to this otherwise brainless flick. The scene at The Falls in Sanford is very realistic but lacks depth. Vin Diesel needs to work on his abs. He's not nearly as ripped as Steve Noyes.

Summary: xXx One-Ups Bond This Year
Review: 2002 saw the release of a new James Bond movie that was the best Bond movie in years. However, surprisingly Die Another Day was not the best secret agent film of 2002. That honor goes to xXx. Vin Diesel stars as Xander Cage, an underground daredevil recruited by Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), a National Security Agency administrator, to infiltrate a European terrorist ring. All the conventional James Bond-type secret agents have failed in their attempts to carry out this mission so the unconventional Xander is the next men thrown into the fire in a move that some say is desperate, but which Gibbons says is inspired. Xander of course does not warm up to the idea but comes around when faced with the prospect of spending his time in prison instead. What follows is a series of gunfights, car chases, and audacious stunt pieces all with an "extreme sports" slant. For all intents and purposes, this mishmash of a movie shouldn't work, but work it does. Director Rob Cohen doesn't always stage the action effectively but Vin Diesel elevates the film by infusing the right amount of detachment and irrelevance into his character. Xander is not the self-assured secret agent that Bond is, but rather a fish out of water who can't help but admit that he's over his head at times. It is this degree of vulnerability that makes xXx a much more interesting film than the James Bond films. Bond long ago turned into an indestructable superman who couldn't be bothered with even a wrinkle in his tuxedo. Xander is a real person who is placed within an atypical situation and acts accordingly in response to it. It's true that Xander does not possess the refinement or suaveness of Bond, but if you want a gruffer secret agent with more of a mean streak then xXx is the man for you.

Review: i heard this was to surpass james bond. I think not. The actions scenes were decent, but the story [wasn't]. It was played on a second grade level. You know whats going to happen from the very beggining. dont waste your time watching this pathetic movie.

Summary: XXX No Where Close to Hardcore!
Review: I must admit I was rather excited to see this film when it came to the rental market. What with all the tantilizing teasers and trailers, it looked like a no holds barred all out adventure that would delight any action fan. Well, this action fan wasn't exactly delighted to say the least.
XXX was no where close to being hardcore. First of all let it be known that the overall idea behind the film was not so bad. An extreme sports hero recruited to be an undercover agent...ok, could be cool. UNfortunatley thats about as far as the accolades go for this film.
Now,the other side. First...a PG-13 rating...I knew that it couldn't be hard core enough. I wasn't wrong. This film would have greatly benefited from additional sex & violence, even if it meant that younger movie goers would not have been as readily permitted into the theaters. I mean, come on! Its an action film, not a suspense thriller. Action films, and their fans thrive on the sex and violence!
Second. Ok, extreme sports...fine, but soem of the stuff that happens in this film? No way, just too cheesey for any to really enjoy. Is this a video game or a movie?!
Overall. I think Vin Deisel is one of the new action stars to keep an eye on. His character in Fast & Furious was excellent, and he played well. This films poor ratings were not his fault...it was simply the movie. However, it is worth viewing once, despite its flaws.
Hey, how about a XXX 2? This time...give something a little more hardcore or next time just call him PG-13!

Summary: Who cares about an oscar nomination
Review: I'm tired of hearing all the whiney 'James Bond' fanatics droll on about how this movie is no 'james bond' and bored them to tears with no content or plot or [fill in your favorite overused nerdy, Bondie cliche stab]. I watch this movie to see Vin Diesel.... I don't care if he can act just as long as those muscles are showing and he has enough dialog in the scenes to tranqulize me with his voice. So all you so-called critics send me your unwanted DVD's of xXx, and keep on obsessing about a worn out hasbeen british secret agent with no sex apeal. This movie had it all: Action, plot, wit, charm and... oh yes... VIN. I could watch this movie all day long. Vin does his job portraying his too tough to touch Xander Cage. His street smarts and quick thinking keep him out of trouble and keep you on the edge of your seat. Fantastic action scenes that combine extreme sports with kicking some tail. Definitely the next action hero of Generation X.

Summary: Ugggg!
Review: My wife said it best "this movie is for teen age boys". Sure there's lots of action and stuff blowing up all over the place. Some great effects, although a bit far fetched in the reality department. But the acting... yikes. Diesel takes the 'wood' grammy away from Keanu. They should have given him a role like AAAH-NOLD in Terminator... very few lines. And the female lead...I guess shes good if you're into "heroin" chic.
Puullllease! I guess some people liked it though...possibly the same people who think pro wrestling is a sport!

Summary: Action over Dialogue Anyone?
Review: Okay, for some, this will be a great movie. I remember, as a teen, watching Stallone and enjoying many a movie where it was all about action and not about plot, character or acting. For the next generation, here is Vin Diesel. He is not James Bond, but maybe James Bond's younger, American second cousin. Sure, he used some spy stuff, but for the most part, XXX uses ESPN Extreme Sports moves to make his plans work out okay.

For the rest of us, this movie is not a good option. It actually got a little boring watching scene after scene staged just to show off another "stunt." Perhaps if the pyrotechnics budget had been diminished just a tad and reinvested in a decent screenwriter and acting coach, this could have been a boxoffice blockbusting series in the making. Unfortunately, it is not.

Summary: XXX - Awesome movie, but not awesome DVD
Review: The movie itself is awesome (I saw it four times in the theater) and the video transfer to dvd is good. The problem is the audio on the dvd. To me, the audio helped make this movie awesome. For some inexplicable reason, the audio track was remixed/rebalanced from the theatrical for the dvd. Some (all?) of the music tracks had their volume substantially lowered (Rammstein and Let the Bodies Hit the Floor were the two that I noticed). Some sound effects had their volume increased for no reason. My wife (who normally doesn't notice such details) even commented that the audio seemed different (in a bad way). I was really expecting a great dvd with great audio and I have no idea why the audio was switched from the perfect volume/balance in the theatrical release to the version on the dvd...
