Summary: DVD is Fantastic
Review: This is one of the first DVDs I purchased when I got my player. And the ALIENS DVD is a great example of high-quality work. The ALIENS menus are great: Point-of-View video shots as if you're exploring the colony. The Behind The Scenes footage is incredible. I am particularly fond of a video-taped test of the Queen done with a hilarious tech assistant "standing in" for Sigourney Weaver. I found the transfer of the movie well done. The quality is high here. I have no quibbles with "The Director's Cut". Although it may have been too long for audiences to sit through in the 80's, length has nothing to do with quality. I find the new cut to be better. It fleshes out an already well-written "action" movie. Seriously, where else will you find such a well-written female character in an action film ? The new scenes only add to her development. Definitely recommended!

Summary: ALIENS is the sequel to ALIEN
Review: ALIENS is the Award winning sequel to the 1979 Sci-fi horror classic Alien. James Cameron has created a much more suspenseful film to the ALIEN movie. Sigourney Weaver returns as Ellen Ripley, the only survivor of the Alien attack on-board the Cargo spaceship NOSTROMO, she returns after 57 years in Hypersleep on board her escape ship. Only to find the company WEYLAND-YUTANI has constructed a colony on the planet where they recieved the signal from the Dead planet. Only Ripley and a Elite squardon of Fighting machined space marines goes to the planet, when contact with the colony is shortly lost. Where Ripley finds the Alien predator is back, with a thousands of Aliens, and the marines are being wiped out. James Cameron did great at making a sequel to a Horror film, and a awsome Space Marine flick. Sigourney Weaver was better and more toughned then the first film Michael Behin did great as Corporal Hicks, the last marine to help Ripley. The alien effects were spectacular. and good. I give Aliens (1986) 10/10 because James Cameron really made a High techs actioner with Alien violence and horror gore.

Summary: The Best Sci-fi Movie Ever Made
Review: There is no challenge to Aliens as the supreme Sci-Fi movie of our time. The action, the unbelievable special effects, and the great dialogue prove that it should be the leader for any action/sci-fi movies to come. Sigourney Weaver is perfect in her resurrection of Ripley and Bill Paxton puts in a solid performance of the paranoid foot soldier Hudson. It is my favorite movie all time and anyone who wishes to see it, Go out and get it. But don't watch it alone, you might get scared.

Summary: Better than the original
Review: While some movie purists do not like the extra footage added to this special edition of the movie, I think it makes it better for the following reasons: 1) the footage of the colony as an active and bustling place before the colonists are all wiped out provides a stark contrast to the way the colony complex looks when Ripley and the Marines arrive, and 2) the Remote Sentry scenes are good because they add to the pressure that Ripley and the survivors are under. The aliens are a constant threat. In the original version, the aliens are not seen or heard from for nearly an hour after the escape from the processing plant. All in all, the extra footage makes the movie even better. The real flaw with Aliens is having Ripley in hypersleep for 57 years, which really strains credibility. They could have rewritten the story so that she was in hypersleep maybe for 5 years. After all, why would the company executives punish her for something she did before they were even born? The writers could have eliminated any reference to a daughter of Ripley's, or, to add to the dramatice impact, she could have died in an accident while Ripley was still in hypersleep. This would have made Ripley's maternal instincts towards Newt even more powerful. The only thing I would have liked to have seen added is another glimpse of the colonists in a beleagured state, and maybe Ripley coming across Hudson with a face hugger on him while she searches for Newt, and Ripley kills Hudson to spare him any further suffering. Otherwise, apart from the aforementioned plot flaw, Aliens is a great movie and one of my favorites.

Summary: Some great alien action and suspense
Review: This movie takes me back to my early teenage years... just when we started sneaking into R-rated movies. This movie is just as good now as it was then. Great suspense AND action. Viewing it again (I don't think I've seen it in almost 10 years) gives new appreciation. One thing I noticed is that the aliens don't nearly get as much screen time in this movie as they get in current flicks (Men In Black, Starship Troopers). I'm not sure if this was due primarily to technical issues or Cameron's direction, but I think the movie is much more powerful this way. The aliens are sinister and organic, always scurrying in the periphery just before their attack. Much more convincing than the artificial looking CG we get these days.

Summary: Don't mess with success
Review: I was tremendously excited when I heard that they were releasing Aliens with the added footage. I remember the robot sentry scenes from its network tv showing and I had long heard rumors tht there were scenes in the LD version of the colony under attack. Normally I like the added footage that comes in a director's cut, but in this case it provides a lesson in the merits of judicious editing. The added story elements screw up the pacing, making it awkward and at times redundant. Don't get me wrong! It's great to be able to see the "new" stuff, but I hope this isn't going to be like Star Wars all over again, where only this new version is made available. Aliens is one of the best movies of the last twenty years and is a landmark for the portrayal of female characters in action films as well as satirizing man's reliance upon technology and his false pride in his accomplishments as an "intelligent" being. Directorially speaking, it is the greatest example of Cameron's skill. I give the original 6 of 5 stars, but the added footage just made me glad I didn't get rid of my old copy of the film

Summary: An even better version of best film of the Alien series.
Review: James Cameron's Alien movie has always been my favorite of the 4 and this Special Edition makes it even better. Though the additional scenes weaved into this film are not nearly as crucial as the added scenes are to the Special Edition of The Abyss (still my favorite Cameron film) they're great nevertheless. Particularly fascinating is the scene in which he colonists first encounter the aliens (although it isn't the full-on battle that you are expecting) and the scene in which Ripley learns what happened to her daughter after her 57 year deep space sleep (a scene which aired in a CBS showing a few years ago). The first is a terriifying and low key foreshadowing device and the other is heartbreaking. The all out battle scenes are wonderfully extended and there are a couple of other delightful talk scenes involving the grunts. This version of Aliens is a thrill to watch and makes it fresh again no matter how many times you've seen it before.

Review: After I saw the first film,I was dieng[sorry if I spelt it wrong]to see this.I know from experience that most sequels usually suck,with only a few exceptions[TREMORS2,TERMINATOR2 and this]. This is much more action-packed than the first film and is very different. Sigourney Weaver reprises her role of Ellen Ripley,the only survivor of the massacre on the ship,Nostromo.She is found in hypersleep, drifting in deep space. The lifeboat she is sleeping in,the Narcissus, is found by a salvage crew. She tells the company her story about the alien, but they don't beleive her. She is persueded by company man Burke[Paul Reiser]to go to a base they lost contact with ,with a load of really tough marines[the place they are going is the place where Ripleys crew found the alien eggs]. Weaver again gives a brilliant performence as Ripley,while Michael Biehn,Bill Paxton and everone else gives good support. In a nutshell,this is a great film,with plenty of:action,suspense and violence. A must see. P.A.B 10

Review: Different, but worthy sequel (and it should've been the only sequel), Aliens is more of an action film than its predecessor. Although afflicted with terribly commericial sensibilities, James Cameron certainly always gives 100%, and this is an action movie you can enjoy without compromising your intelligence. It's well-made, solid fun.
