Review: I hate having to buy new versions of previously owned DVDs but if they were all as good as the ALIENS COLLECTOR'S EDTION I would surely go broke !
What a complete set of featturetes It was great for FOX to be able to involve all of the important participants in the movie. You will learn everything you could possibly want to now about it. Some stuff is facinating, other (like the crew's tea breaks) downright hilarious).
Most highly recommended, even if you own the original SPECIAL EDITION release.

Summary: "Aliens" Collector's Edition DVD Review!
Review: James Cameron's epic follow-up to Ridley Scott's "Alien" is regarded as one of the few sequels that can actually hold its own with the original. As part of the "Alien Quadrilogy" boxed set, this two-disc special edition release features the original released version of the film on a DVD format for the first time. You'll also get the longer 1991 special edition of the movie (the unofficial "Director's Cut") on the same disc. This is the DVD that the fans have been waiting for. "Aliens" finds Sigourney Weaver's Ripley waking up from her hyper-sleep in space to discover that she has been gone for 57 years. When she discovers that the planet which the Nostromo crew discovered the original Alien on is now being colonized, she tries to warn them against it. When a rescue mission is eventually organized with a team of macho space marines, Ripley is sent in as an "advisor". Following their landing on the planet, the marines are ambushed and the survivors discover that they are being set-up by a government goon with an agenda. What follows is an explosion-filled roller coaster ride with more thrills than most of today's so-called "blockbuster" films. The longer "Special Edition" version of the film adds many character moments including Ripley's discovery of what happened to her daughter, Hudson's macho "ultimate bad-ass" speech, and a scene where Ripley and Hicks exchange first names. Obviously if you are a huge fan of the movie, you'll probably prefer this version. The audio commentary brings a lot of insight into the film as everyone from director Cameron to special FX wizard Stan Winston contribute their memories. Sigourney Weaver is noticeably absent but the entertaining members of the ensemble cast including Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, and Lance Henriksen make up for it with some hilarious stories and fond memories from the set. If the commentary wasn't enough, there's a whole bunch of featurettes that cover just about every detail from pre-production to the public's enitial response to the film's release. "Aliens" was one of my favorite films for a long time. I was always a fan of the new characters, especially Michael Biehn's Corporal Hicks and Bill Paxton's cocky but sometimes cowardly Hudson. While I am far from one of the bigger Jim Cameron fans, I give him a great deal of credit for molding such an epic science fiction masterpiece. The movie has survived the test of time very well though Cameron will be the first to complain about the picture's grainy feeling. Even if you are not a die-hard fan of "Aliens", if there ever was a reason to own it on DVD, this is it.

Summary: Excellent the Best in the Series
Review: This movie left off excalty where the first on ended which was Ripley and her cat in hypersleep on board the shuttle after blowing up the ship. When she lands they press charges on her for blowing up the ship and the revoke her license to be a ship pilot. They offer it back when the need her to save the survivors on the same planet that the Aliens were first found. After giving it much thought she agrees to come along when she is told she won't be harmed to the process. When they land they find the only survivor is a girl named Newt. The complex is also full of Aliens and theirs no way to escape. She gets betrayed when Burke one of her teammates tries to use her and Newt as hosts to get an Alien past quarintine. The rest of the marines and a android Bishop need to think of a way to escape. Bishop bravely goes to patch up a ship to save everyone. But Aliens get past their perimeter and Ripley and commander Hicks only make it to the ship. I won't reveal any more but it is a greta movie for Sci-Fi fans.

Review: It may not be the first one but it is a very good sequil anyway. ( Make that only good sequil) Since the alien movies become even more horrible and less scary, they make this movie look like a classic. The only thing wrong with this movie is that the marines make it seem boring. But buy it anyway.

Review: This is the best Science Fiction movie ever made, and the two disk set is outstanding in every way. It offers beautiful packaging, two movies (theatrical and Special Ed), and a bonus behind the scenes disk. Highly recommended.

Summary: The story is really about Ripley and Newt...
Review: There is a seperate featurette on disk two that focuses solely on Ripley and Newt, and it was really those two that carry the film. The key to this movie's successes was that mother/daughter relationship that they had, and to hear Sigourney and Carrie talk about the movie and the friendship they formed during it, makes one understand that this movie had som pretty good human drama in it, thanks to two well casted members and it has not seen in these kinds of movies before or since.

Review: I can almost recite this film word-for-word I've seen it that much. I can pick out almost every visual flaw on cue and...yeah I'm a nerd when it comes to this movie. I'm not a James Cameron freak either who thinks everything he does is genius ("Titanic," come on people) and I'm not a super-fan of either sci fi or the Alien saga. This movie is just a great movie. It has great acting, great plot, great character development, great suspense, and great action. The film visually looks spectacular, it's shot very close to the action and is very emotionally gripping. Another thing I like about "Aliens" is one of James Cameron's rules about sequels: "It shouldn't require you to have seen the first film." You can enjoy "Aliens" without having seen "Alien," and I think that is very important. While fans of sci-fi and horror will love "Alien," fans of sci-fi and action will love "Aliens." I can't say enough about this movie, Sigourney Weaver is great, Carrie Henn as Newt unbelievably believable, Michael Biehn is great as Hicks, and Paul Reiser works his performance beautifully. Bill Paxton is just Bill Paxton, you can't expect more or less from him. There's no reason for you to have not ordered this movie by now, it is as much a classic as "Alien" and, in my personal opinion, better than "Alien." Buy this movie. Now.
