Summary: Intelligent And Thrilling!
Review: "The Assignment" is what "The Jackal" and "The Peacemaker" tried to be. This is a movie that has international intrigue, and fantastic action sequences. I also loved the way it was filmed. The director obviously has a great love of images, of film and how settings can come out in film. The plot is also really interesting and keeps you gripped in wonderful suspense. The writers cleverly combine the true story of international terrorist Carlos The Jackal and a fictional story to make a great piece of cinema. "The Assignment" is one of the best thrillers that has been made recently because it has intelligence. This is a great, action-packed and entertaining movie.

Summary: Canadian Thriller
Review: A some what decent cold war spy thriller from Canada, loosely based on real life characters. A U.S. Naval officer turned CIA spy to catch the infamous "Carlos the Jackal". Ben Kingly and Donald Sutherland are the veteran actors in this film. Aidan Quinn, although not Cuban, dose make it come off fairly well. (I'm ½ Cuban, I should know.)
Decent action and well shot and edited. I would have liked to see maybe a little more spy gadgetry but then that's Bonds territory.
Over all this was a good movie with all around solid performances by the cast.

This is a very interesting film that has more to offer than just action. Some of the most fascinating sequences come early in the film as CIA agent Jack Fields (Donald Sutherland) and Mossad agent Amos (Ben Kingsley) supervise the training that is supposed to enable him to behave convincingly in his new role--training that really seems more like brain-washing. This is clearly not a big-budget film, but it makes the best of what it has. It is not predictable by any means--the final shot will leave you guessing.

Summary: An exciting strong thriller.
Review: An American Naval Officer (Aidan Quinn), who resemble uncanny to a dangerous international terrorist named Carlos "The Jackal" Sanchez (Also Quinn). The Naval Officer has been recuited by the CIA (Donald Sutherland) and the Israeli Intelligence (Oscar-Winner:Ben Kingsley) to learn, training and act like the Terrorist to Draw Carlos in the Open but The Naval Officer life has become embroiled in international intrigue and deadly consequences.Directed by Christian Duguay (Screamers, Joan of Arc, The Art of War) has made a Stylish Thriller. The film two-third is Strong and Exciting but the last third drags and become absurd including the film`s ending. Strong Performances by Quinn, Sutherland and Kingsley. An well made film. Grade:B+.

Summary: A film that shows that Canada can make a great movie!
Review: As a fellow Canadaian, I was very pleased to discover this film. Which was not only was stylish and suspenseful, but also a very interesting character study of the main character, Annibal Ramirez, played by Aidan Quinn. It's very interesting to see Ramirez being transformed into this cold-blooded killer known as the Jackal. I was surprised at how effective Christopher Duguay's direction was especially considering his last movie was the awful "Screamers". This picture has given Quinn his most challenging role to date, and one of the best roles that both Sutherland and Kingsley - who is great in this. - have had in years.

Summary: 5 Stars is not enough
Review: Definately an unconventional thriller. Duguay's slow but heated pacing throughout the movie was well appreciated. This allowed us never to expect when someone would die, or get blown up. Quinn's portrayal of Carlos' hatred was dead-on. His unpredictability and seething brashness was surely a reflection on the real Carlos (who by the way killed French cops in the '70s as Quinn did the KGB in this movie-by distraction).

Review: Despite first appearances, this is not another James Bond clone movie with generic action sequences and almost no plot: rather it is a very believable and sophisticated psychological study of loyalty, character and human violence that just happens to have a great story and painfully realistic action scenes. If you aren't drawn right into the main character's internal drama, the KGB must have worked on you first. Great performances from Aidan Quinn, Ben Kingsley & Donald Sutherland.

Summary: A Great Unknown Film
Review: I don't see how this wasn't a hit film. Three big name actors take roles that are new but suit them well. I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. Perhaps the ending was unspectacular, but that shouldn't be allowed to spoil a great film concept with a riveting storyline.

Review: I saw this film in the premiers some time back, subsequently I've borrowed & then bought the DVD - its a must for your espionage collection. The critics reckoned it to be the usual drudgery - trust me they were wrong! A movie above most!
