Summary: Great film.
Review: It's Star Wars, what can I say? It's an astounding stepping stone for an incredible story. This was just the setup the pay off is coming. It changes Star Wars forever in the best possible way. Highest recommendation to those not caught up in how they think Star Wars should be.

Summary: Cool movie--even more awesome DVD!
Review: "The Phantom Menace" alone deserves 5 stars, because it's a really good movie. I just don't understand where all this bad rep is coming from! If you are a true 'Star Wars' fan, then you should appreciate this movie for what it is--the introduction to the whole 'Star Wars' saga. So of course it would be a light, innocent story. Remember...the world of 'Star Wars' wasn't always dark!

The action was very good, what you should expect from a filmmaker like George Lucas. The lightsaber battles were especially amazing! The Pod Race was great, too. The acting wasn't even all that bad as most people claim it to be. The lead performances by Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and even Jake Lloyd were all excellent. And by the way, Jake Lloyd was supposed to be portraying the character of a young child...not some adult! So how else was George Lucas supposed to portray the young, nine-year-old Anakin? And yes, Jar Jark Binks was annoying, but I tried my best to just ignore him. Plus, he is a very important character in the 'Star Wars' saga and in the upcoming chapters, you'll understand why. So he wasn't just there for nothing or comical humor.

Some parts of "The Phantom Menace" may have been confusing to audiences who don't know the story of 'Star Wars' too well. But all in all, excellent story and film. A great movie to add to the 'Star Wars' saga and I'm anxiously awaiting "Attack of the Clones" and episodes 3-9 (well...if George Lucas gets that far!).

Now onto the DVD. This DVD for "The Phantom Menace" is truly an exhillerating movie experience! The DVD extras are alone worth the price as well. Another 5 stars for the DVD. It comes packaged completely in 2 discs. The first disc is the film feature. The picture/sound quality of this movie is absolutely magnificant! There are hours and hours of special features (you could seriously sit down there on the couch and spend half of the day watching the film, and the rest of the day exploring all the features!).

The special features include:
*The making of "The Phantom Menace"
*Commentary made by George Lucas
*Deleated Scenes made especially for the DVD
*Multi-angled storyboard
*Five featurettes
*Award-winning five part Web documentary series
*"Duel of the Fates" music video featuring composer John Williams
*Exclusive photo gallery
*Theaterical trailers&teaser trailers
*"Star Fighters--the Making of the Game" featurette by LucasArts
*CD-ROM extras

*This DVD is only available in widescreen format, but still worth buying even if you don't have a widescreen TV.*

If there is one DVD you can buy this year...make it be "The Phantom Menace". One of the greatest DVDs of all time! Can't wait for the rest of the 'Star Wars' movies to be out on DVD!

Summary: I am one disappointed Star Wars fan...
Review: This movie was not even nearly as good as the oringinal Star Wars. While Episode I did have some great special effects and good animation, the sense of humor was an overkill. I hated Jar-Jar, who I thought was just another horrible comical addition to make this movie a joke. What were the directors thinking when they used those pathetic-looking droids as troops against Queen Amidala's army? The storm-troopers were much more serious--and they had better costumes.

I feel that now George Lucas has the ability to develop his creativity more (due to the changes in technology) he appears to be focusing too much on the visual effects and animation, thus abandoning the potential for character development. From my point of view, I do believe that they had the right actors for this movie, but they could have given them better lines and a more sensible portrayal of their feelings. For those of you that have seen the oringinal Star Wars trilogy, they did a great job of the characterization--and there was nothing overly humorous about them. They did a good job with Luke--who was torn between his feelings for his long-lost father and saving his friends, along with the Force. What I saw in this movie wasn't even remotely like that. However, I will say that the way they portrayed Anakin was good. Even though he was only a kid, I could definetly see him becoming Vader in the future. He was very strong with the Force, but he had an aggressiveness to him--which makes it understandable as to why Yoda objected to him becoming a Jedi.

Anyway, I hope that Lucas does a better job in the next movie. I'm all for the special effects and animation, but I hope he cuts back on the childish humor and focus more on the main characters. While I don't expect it to be as compelling as Star Wars, I do hope it's more dramatic than this one.

Summary: Watch This Movie TWICE Before You Rate It
Review: Has this ever happened to you: Friends tell you about a movie. They tell you it is one of the best flicks they have ever seen. You decide you must see it because of all the recommendations you've received. You leave the theater thinking to yourself, "Why did my friends think this movie was so great? It wasn't that big of a deal!" Then, you see the movie again a few months later, and it is only then that you realize how great the movie truly is. Has this ever happened to you?

I saw the very first Star Wars movie when I was still a teenager back in 1977. When this latest movie of the series - "The Phantom Menace" - hit the theaters, I was there! And, I left the theater somewhat disappointed. A couple of months later I rented it and watched it at home and I realized I had set myself up! In other words, I went to the theater with expectations so high, there was NO WAY ANY movie could have lived up to them.

As I watched the movie at home, I recognized the absolute greatness of this movie! This flick is a blockbuster and a half! Pure excitement from beginning to end. Learn a lesson from my experience: If you get your expectations too high, you will most likely be disappointed.

Summary: the truth comes out
Review: when star wars came outin 1977, george lucas it's director was hailed as a genius and a great storyteller. millions of people declared star wars as one of the geatest sci fi movies. these people did not notice how it's creator, george lucas had ripped of his story from tolkein's lord of the rings and akira kurowosa's seven samurai.star wars was followed by two equally good sequels, and george lucas was the golden boy of hollywood. twenty years later when lucas announced that he would be making a new star wars that would tell the origins of his memorable characters, his loyal fans rejoiced. lucas would save sci fi as he did in 77 they thought. little did they notice that lucas had not made a good film since star wars. in 1999 the phantom menance opened worldwide as the most anticipated movie ever. expectations were high as people expected this to be a worthy addition to the famous saga. titanic, which had the current record for highest grossing movie worlwide was expected to be dethrowned by star wars loyal fans.little did the fans notice that it's creator lucas had no one to steal from. what the phantom menance became was one of the worst prequels in cinema history. lucas has lost it his fans declared, but little did they realize that he never had it.

Summary: Now we are getting mad!
Review: Star Wars is one of the most lamest, overrated films in history much like Lord of the Good 'Ol Ringos. Same goes for this.

What is it with trilogies? They are pointless, usless things to make people anticipate the next film and trick you into believing in something that is not there.

First off, let me say, if a human being can comprehend the story
within this movie, kudos to them. On the otherhand, kill them
off so a movie like this will never exist again.

To boot, every actor in here is annyoing as can be. I never like Liam, and I think it would take a lot to make me. Ewan is ugly,
and that goes for the Portman chick as well. I don't mean to be shallow, but hey, if you can't stand to look at the actors what is the point?

The film never ceases. End already!

Summary: Star Wars I
Review: The movie was alright, but had Inconsistencies. Like Needing to do a blood test to see if they had the Force in them ? Darth Vader could feel Obi Wan when he was on the Death Star. And Jar-JAR What a Joke !!! The putz was on the show 85 minutes longer than he needed to be. If he is in the next chapter, It is because he needs to suffer a brutal Death for everyone to see for dealing with that idot in the Phantom Menance.

Summary: Poor job, Lucas.
Review: Episode 1 is a MAJOR disappointment from the get go. It's not even worth 1 star, but I could not figure out how to give it a poorer rating. It lacks none of the depth and vision that the the 3 earlier movies did, and the story line is WEAK! The best part of the movie, and the sole reason why I bought it, is because of Jar Jar Bink's humourous antics. The robots with their stupid "roger, roger" are arsinine! And it is ludicrous for the technology to be "better" in the prequel, and worse in the supposedly subsequent movies. Episode 1 is more of a comedy than anything else. George: this movie is nothing more than a greedy attempt on your part to rip the die-hard Star Wars fans off. Aren't you rich enough already? Why don't you get with the programme and make the next movie a little more sensible? And please, take those stupid robots out of there.

Summary: CAN'T WAIT FOR EPISODE 4 TO BE RELASED ON DVD
Review: BUT in the meantime Episode I ROCKS. This DVD set looks and sounds wonderful. Even though I don't think the movie lives up to episode's 4, 5 & 6. It is a very fun and action packed movie, with fantastic special effects. The extras are fun as well, I love the deleted LONG race seen, its very funny. I am looking forward to seeing Attack of the clones and I especially can't wait for the original three (episodes 4, 5, and 6) to come out on DVD.
