Summary: A kewl movie
Review: If your looking to buy this DVD you probably have already seen the movie so I won't bother to tell you about that part.
Of course since this is a DVD the picture quality is fantastic. What I'm sure everyone wants to know about is the extras that come with it.
There's a documentary that's could have been shown on TV. It covers all the aspects of how they did the special effects. I myself don't want to know how they did it, for me it ruins the show some how. Along with the normal stuff that comes with a regular DVD this one has the screen tests included. There's a couple of scenes that were cut from the final release and they're fun to watch, after you finish watching the main presentation.
I've had this movie for about a year now and I'd estimate that I've watched it at least 30 times. Every once in a while I'll watch it all the way through then watch it again with the directors' commentary going instead of the actors speaking parts. You'll gain a whole new insight on what they were trying to accomplish with this film. Though I still think they based it on racial lines in our society during the Second World War. Buy it and watch it once with that in mind and you'll see what I mean. I know I'm being a little cryptic but I don't want to give anything away for those who actualy haven't seen this great flick

Summary: Cynic masterpiece
Review: This has been one of the most underestimated movies of all time.
Reading the 'there are no double meanings', 'there's no plot', 'the actors look like they're from melrose place' and the 'glorification of violence' reviews are half the fun of it.
I think it's brilliant. Make 'heroes' out of a beautiful melrose like persons, develop their characters like nazi's. In the end, the 'heroes' are left with a 'friend club' of people who have been hypocritical about love for egoistic reasons, a nazi who almost sent to others to death, and complete emptiness.
If that doesn't make you think.
Apparently it didn't, as almost no one got it ;)
And that's just one side of it.
If one had to critisize this movie, one could say Verhoeven tried to be morally educating and politically correct, you know, like an anti-racism movie that bores the hell out of you because you aren't a racist, or rather, to criticize that if failed, for most ;) I've seen more comments that the movie is actually racist and glorification of violence, etc. It's like saying an anti-racism movie in the Bronx is racist, because it shows racism.
But again, that's half the fun of it ;)

Summary: Run of the mill, but entertainment just as well
Review: "Starship Troopers" is a run-of-the-mill sci-fi action movie, when a space draft is set in order for high school students to enlist in the intergalactic war against giant predatory bugs (gore aplenty).This movie may seemed cliched, but it's robust, entertaining, and sexy to make up for it. That alone is for renting and/or buying for. (Also, for the female viewers, they have Jake Busey and Casper Van Dien who bare as much as R-rated movie can allow.) But it's definitely not for the squeamish. Rated R for graphic violence and gore, language, and nudity.

Summary: Leave logic, scrutiny and cynicism at the door.
Review: With director Paul Verhoeven at the helm of a film, you never know what you're up against. As a storyteller, his sense of direction tends to be hit-or-miss; some turn out fine, while other flounder. As a director, his sense of over-the-top style and dazzling special effects provide viewers with a like-it-or-hate-it experience, even saving some of his films from failure. "Starship Troopers" is a special case, a movie so gawdy and ridiculous, so over-the-top in effects and lacking in logical plot that many who see it will be divided down the middle. For me, the movie works, due to the fact that since the story is sheer sci-fi hokum, you can put it all aside and just enjoy the spectacular roller coaster Verhoeven has crafted, a thrill-ride of rollicking visual effects and action stunts that inspire laughter in all the right ways. The film's beginning is slow and monotonous, as it introduces us to the characters and sets up the conflict. We meet several students at a futuristic high school, on the verge of their graduation and parting ways. It begins with Carmen (Denise Richards) and Johnny (Casper Van Dien) being in love, trying to make it work as they part to train and become troopers, though Carmen gets the wandering eye for a fellow pilot, and they part ways. As all of this happens, a race of alien bugs, which inhabit a distant planet, have sent an asteroid to Earth, which destroys Buenos Aires, the hometown of Johnny and Carmen, who, along with the entire Starship Troopers force, wage war on the bugs, landing on their planet on a mission to wipe them out. The story is small on development, which will turn away those looking for logical plot twists and lucid storytelling. "Starship Troopers" is concerned with neither of the two, and instead chooses to focus on the elements of excitement, humor, and satire. And for the most part, this gamble pays off, delivering on many of these promised elements while leaving the plot in its wake. I'll come right out and say it: the action is tremendous, big on special effects while low on tension and connection. This is due to the absence of story, but it hardly seems to matter. This is Verhoeven's canvas, and he turns it into a playground for some very stunning visuals that are as exciting as they are completely cheesy (even a five-year-old could tell that the bugs are fake). But, for some reason, it all seems to work. There are scenes that provide a reaction of awe and wonder, such as a scene in which a missile is fired into a bug cavern, creating a tremendous explosion that does all but leave you sitting still. Lots of gunfire, running, chase scenes, bloodshed, mayhem, and explosions keep the energy at a high. These scenes work because their unbelievability and silly conception are so humorous that you can't help but go along with the gimmick. There are even elements of satire present, involving the use of propaganda and images that look like something out of a futuristic World War II. The movie plays like a promotional campaign for enrollment in the armed services, and Verhoeven shows no shame in interspersing such videos throughout the film. Throughout all of the movie, there also seems to be a sense of surreal patriotism that is corny and clichéd, but works delightfully with the rest of the material. I walked into "Starship Troopers" expecting less than what I came away from it with, and it proved itself a satisfactory sci-fi adventure film. The story is bad, but the effects and virtuoso direction of Verhoeven make this a film for those who consider substance a distraction from style. Just go along with it, leaving scrutiny behind, and the movie works.

Summary: Another masterpiece of sight and sound
Review: First,i would highly reccomend refraining from searching for some preposterous deeper meaning in this film.Even if the director was attempting some sort of social commentary,because of the characterizations and brilliant FX,it cannot be taken seriously.Calm down people,some of you know how to overanalyze an highly entertaining film to death.This is a landmark film in pure visceral thrills,it does what few films do,it tittilates,thrills,and excites the senses each and everytime you watch it(On DVD with a DD/DTS receiver and powerful subwoofer).A capable sound system is a must to fully enjoy this DVD.The sound of the marauding soldier bugs assault on our young infantrymen/women will envelope your room,and send chills down your spine.And the first descent of the dropship on Klandathu(the source of the bug meteorite)is one of the best ever filmed.I don't want to hear that because this movie entertains me,i like it for all the wrong reasons.The way i feel about this movie does'nt mean i'm violent,or a nazi,or some hippocritical patriotic warmonger.I just take it for what it is,one of the best SCi -Fi films i have ever experienced,it never gets boring.The whole cast is likable,and i would beg to differ with most reviews,they are sympathetic and likable.These are young,attractive,ambitious men and women looking to find some sense of purpose.They are motivated by a sense of Honor,Responsibility,and Courage.And the message about citizenship is realistic.If you don't contribute,you can't participate.What a novel idea,it's how all occupations and societies work,for the most part.Don't take this film so seriously,sit back,enjoy,and let yourself be wisked away to another time,another place.One last thing,the dvd is loaded with entertaining extras,and the image and sound quality are amazing.

Summary: I Should Know Better, And I Don't Care
Review: I love this movie shamelessly, I guess denoting I SHOULD feel shame for feeling this way - lots of it. Paul Verhoeven has many deeply troubling tendencies in his work as the show-biz ambassador for the Culture Of Death, and its most alluring cheerleader as well. Frankly, John Wayne Gacy would have moral problems with Verhoeven's movies. Unfortunately, he's an inspired, kinetic filmmaker who always shows at least flashes of greatness, and sometimes - as here - he shows you a lot more than that.. STARSHIP TROOPERS is Verhoeven's best, hands down. What he's selling here is the most heartless, amoral, decadent vision of Western civilization ever mass-marketed by a major studio, wrapped in old-Hollywood surface tinsel and handed over with a wink so deeply lascivious that your bone marrow freezes for a second...just before you feverishly snatch the package, tearing off the wrapper greedily, your hands shaking with junkie anticipation. Yet, because it's all played out in space-opera conventions, the movie has just enough distancing from us to really allow you to wallow in its bright, sensual imagery and watch the subgags, as densely packed and layered as in a Harvey Kurtzman MAD comic, whizz by. 'Dense' is an apt word to describe this movie. Its simple-minded plot is one kind of dense, built squarely upon cliche...yet as timeless and classical as any good cliche must be. The treatment is another 'dense' altogether: there's more MOVIE in STARSHIP TROOPERS' first half-hour than most directors could shoehorn into a trilogy. Verhoeven also has a painter's understanding of CGI as well: if the technology now exists to make anything possible in a movie, then you owe the audience nothing less than DeMille-scale flabbergastery as imagined by Boris Artzybasheff. It's a teenage sex-n-death space opera unlike any Hollywood summer spectacular ever made - either you get it, or you don't, and Verhoeven, as usual, seems to be having great fun mocking those members of the audience who don't. Additionally, I find it coldly amusing that, had these effects appeared in a lower-budget indie, no way they don't get mau-mau'd by the board with an NC-17 (aka the dreaded X for the nose-ring generation). This double-standard is a nice Verhoevian touch: as his films are brilliantly-visualized celebrations of the strong devouring the weak, I've no doubt he relishes the irony of the R rating.

Summary: Starship Troopers First Rate!!!
Review: This is a great change of pase from all the other Sci fi out there. When I first saw the adds for the movies release I said "not a chance!" But I was persuaded by a friend to go see it and I'm glad I did. This movie has it all. A great story,A great plot. And Fantastic special effects! They are flawless when seen in the theater. But some of the effects are obviouse at home. None the less it's a Fantastic film!! Another great bonus is that there is very little swearing in the movie. For an R rating this is a wonderful plus. It makes the movie that much more enjoyable. So I highly recommend it to one and all. Enjoy!

Summary: Entertaining, sarcastic yarn.
Review: This film might have failed if it had tried to be serious. Instead of meanders from teeny-bopper to dark comedy without really losing itself too much. At times it seems to make fun of other sci fi works with aliens and excessive "gooeyness," and at other times it seems to be frantically paced and reminiscent of bad action films - in a good way. Do not see this expecting a serious sci fi film, or even a serious space opera. Instead, expect a humorous parody of both.
