Review: There's action, magic, romance, a bit of horror, and it's very funny too. It's the type of movie you can watch again and again. I've seen it almost a dozen times and I enjoy it every time. Very good movie. A must see for fun and action.

Review: Even though critics jumped at the chance to loathe this film, I suggest you give it a try. I already own the collector's edition DVD, so apparently it is being re-released. I hesitated (regretably) in viewing this film because of the critics. Well, I must say they were completely off the mark. I wonder how critics become critics, all they do is criticize. They must be Vulcans! Anyway, this is a rather superb adventure, and it's suitable for all ages. The disc is loaded with special features, and makes a worthy addition to your DVD collection.

Review: The special effects are good, yes, but there is more to this film than CG.
I find this movie very hilarious thanks to convincing acting by Rachel Weisz, Brendan Fraser, John Hannah, and above all, ever-so-comical Kevin J. O'Connor. - even now he never failes to make me crack out laughing..
All the characters, though each is apparently one-dimensional which is quite common and normal for this kind of films (you surely do not expect complexity, it's just an 'action adventure' you know..), are well portrayed by all the cast, and that's a real joy to watch.
This movie stands true to the spirit of its genre and is quite a good one.
It may not deserve it, but I give it 5 stars for its charming sense of humor.

Summary: Gabriel's opinion on "The Mummy"
Review: one of the things that got me into the mummy series was the mummy returns. At first i kept on saying that the first one "the mummy" was nothing but comedy and silly jokes and the actors and producers were not even serious about the movie, but i only seen the first one once in 1999 when it first came out on video for rent at blockbuster. but one day i told my self since i loved "the mummy returns" so much i said to my self that why not watch the first one again and when i saw it I said to my self that the mummy returns was just another spin off. I mean don't get me wrong. both movies were hott but the mummy returns was missing alot of things that the first one had. #1 it was missing all of the mummy's powers and the effects were better in the mummy returns but not the story line. I mean the scorpion king that which i thought was the tightest character in the movie even though he didn't have that many parts in the movie is really having it's own movie orgin coming to theaters on April 19th this spring. But the scorpion King is a whole nother story and it is like trying to put both movies "The Scorpion King" and "The Mummy" into one movie screwing up the story line. Most people say that "The Mummy Returns" was much better than the first one and I agree with them, they did improve on the character's personality and plus it had more action so if you really like the series even though both of the movies were good I say go with the mummy returns.

Review: This movie is absolute crap! I just watched it, and I can't possibly express how disgusted I am with all this wasted time I can never get back. I almost want to cry. To begin with, the special effects are the best thing in the movie, and even they suck. The plot basically consists of a bunch of people dying and no one seeming to care, and a bunch of bugs running around. That this apathetic waste of space would be geared towards kids--or anyone for that matter--makes me physically ill. Never, ever watch this! I can't believe some people like this! Between the swiss cheese plot and unimaginative storytelling, I'd rather watch grass grow. Please, please, please stay away from this movie!

Review: As often as I will be watching this movie, then it has to be in dvd form-- otherwise I would have to buy it more than once! The extra scenes and footage on the second disk are definately a bonus, also.

Summary: WOW!!! Universal and Hammer was never like this!!
Review: Brandan Fraser delivers a super performance a la Indiana Jones, in this remake of the Mummy. Instead of the lumbering mummy of the old Universal films and, later in the remakes with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee for Hammer, this mummy is really something to fear. I always thought why would anyone fear the mummy in the old films, he plods along so even a granny with a walker could outrun him!!! As the mummy gains power, it is a very vital being with amazing powers. The pace starts out fast, and keeps up the roller coaster ride, with AMAZING special effects. Brilliant comedic support from John Hallam, ads to the mix of adventure, romance and mild-blowing effects. An Absolute must!!!

Review: The mummy is one of the best mummy films. I don't know why people like the 1932 mummy i think they don't know what they are talking about. I watched the 1932 mummy and i fought it was (bad) it was so cheesy. In the 1999 mummy it has the best special effects best music great acting and the feel of egypt. The mummy is my all time favourites thanks to stephen summers who directed it and ILM( Industrial light And Magic) the special effects people. This movie is well directed , well scripted, and well acted. I thank the people that did this film because i love it. borrow this film watch it and buy it you'll love it.....

Summary: Dumbed-down version of the original
Review: I normally wouldn't even have bothered to see this movie, but being a fan of the original I just couldn't resist to see how it measured up. Of course it has none of the spiritual, intellectual and elegiacal elements and lacks the tragic romanticism of its predecessor which combined to make it a thoroughly haunting story, but this remake is good enough. It would have fit perfectly in the 80's among other macho-man adventures set in exotic locales such as "Indiana Jones" and "Romancing the Stone," but this exhiliarating story with great momentum makes it timeless escapist fare. Lord Imhoptep (Arnold Vosloo, something of a Billy Zane lookalike), high priest under Pharoah Seti I, is engaged in forbidden love affair with Pharoah's high priestess (Rachel Weisz in a dual role). When affair is discovered the lovers kill Pharoah, high priestess kills herself and Imhotep escapes with his men. He then conjures up dark secret spells after stealing dead love's corpse in order to infuse her soul back into her body, upon which she will awaken and they can be together again. But spell is cut short when Pharoah's men show up and condemn them all to a slow and agonizing death, particularly Imhotep. Fast forward 3000 years later when bookish British beauty Evie Carnahan (Weisz) and wacky brother Jonathan embark on a journey to Egypt to find the lost city Hamunaptra, whose riches are legendary. Accompanying them is Brendan Fraser, who plays Richard "Rick" O'Connell (how anachronistic is that? Back then he woulda been called "Dick"!), a hellraising adventurer they saved from the clink and now will be their guide. Along with a rival group, they reach the lost city and foolishly open Imhotep's tomb--and like Pandora's box, from that point on all unearthly hell breaks loose. Imhotep takes a luckless victim to restore his original appearance, invokes pestilence and plague among the hapless populace, then takes off with Evie since she's a deadringer for his former flame and he plans to use her as a sacrifice to resurrect his dead love. Now it's up to machoman Rick to save the the damsel and the day. Although in my opinion the movie has some needless feminism and is dumbed-down for this modern-era consisting of the bubble-gum chewing (and bubble-brained) crowd with it's blend of light romance, light comedy, heavy dose of adventure and derring-do and absence of philosophical gravity, it still makes good viewing either by itself or as a lighthearted companion piece to the heavy and serious original. It's ironic that the attractive Fraser was the leading male role and had most of the screen time, but unsurprisingly it was the exotic Vooslo, even with his smaller part, that ended up stealing the show--not surprising since he's unusually gorgeous!
