Summary: I liked this movie!
Review: I saw this for the first time at the cinema and, I have to admit, I didn't expect to like it. But because I only get out to the movies every so often, I like to see something with great special effects to make it worth my money, otherwise I just wait for the rental. So, I chose to see "The Mummy" and was pleasantly surprised. The special effects were great, the acting believable. I particularly enjoyed Vosloo's portrayal of Imhotep. He was everything evil should be, powerful, alluring, and very, very nasty. Brendan Fraser was a great hero. If the characters drifted into cliche every once in a while, I hardly noticed. I was being ENTERTAINED.The DVD edition of "The Mummy" has lots of extra goodies, too. Even more than I expected, which was nice.

Review: Brendan Fraser battles the forces of the undead in the rousing adventure fantasy "The Mummy". The plot is well structured and certainly entertaining. Brendan Fraser is outstanding as a lively adventure hero. The cast also includes Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Arnold Vosloo. Director Stephen Sommers keeps the excitement soaring with nonstop action sequences and eye-popping visual effects. This action-packed fantasy tale is also a superb collector's edition DVD. The entertaining film is presented in its original 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen format. The DVD contains an outstanding picture quality with surprising clarity and great resolution. The 5.1 Dolby Digital sound is spectacular with amazing surround effects. Its supplemental material includes an audio commentary with director Stephen Sommers and editor Bob Duscay, behind-the-scenes and FX featurettes, deleted scenes and informative "Egyptology 101" facts. The animated menus are colorful and quite stunning. Overall, "The Mummy" earns a solid "B+".

Summary: Good, I guess...
Review: I just finished seeing this movie for the first time. I'd seen other, older, better "mummy" movies. This one was okay, but I've seen better. It moves very very slowly in the beginning--it seems as if I waited over an hour just to catch a glimpse of this mummy. He was quite ugly at first, being skeletal and all, but after he completely revived, he looked SO good. Honestly,he was hot. He had a great body. I was kind of rooting for him, he looked that good. Where Vosloo (is that his name?) takes off his raggedy garments are the best scenes of all. Did I mention how GOOD the (revitalized) mummy looked? This movie would have been great, had he been in more scenes of seduction! Im-ho-tep...Im-ho-tep...Im-ho-tep...

Summary: Fun Filled Film, even for the expert!
Review: I didn't care for the film when I first saw it in the theater, but I have to admit I was with friends who were vocally underwhelmed by it and in a multiplex cinema where sound from another film was very intrusive. Since seeing it on full screen, I have purchased the DVD and have to admit the picture definitely grows on a person. The "ouch" of the obvious historical goofs (If the pyramids--which are on the Giza plateau near Cairo--can be seen from Thebes about 500 miles south, it must have been one hell of a clear day! ) gives way to the supreme satisfaction of searching them all out! There is an entire web site just dedicated to the Mummy's historical inaccuracies, so one has to know some very bright people were as entertained as I by this movie. In fact if I were doing the sequel, I'd probably include a few, letting it be well known, just to keep the history buffs entertained. My chief disappointment in the film is that the reason for Imhotep's passion for Ankhesenamon is not really very clear. I realize she looks better than most of us with her clothing painted on her body, but I rather doubt that beauty alone would be sufficient to account for the priest's near obsession with the lady. I couldn't help wondering what she has that the rest of us don't, when Imhotep's only concern was to spend eternity with her. I suspect if she's just beautiful, the guy could be designing his own peculiar brand of hell! Actually, with what I know of history and with the information I received from the film, I came up with my own very satisfactory solution. Perhaps Mr. Sommers will enlarge on the history of the couple in the next film. Mr. Frasier's hero was very energetic and engaging. One could hardly avoid comparing his efforts to keep his own lady alive to Imhotep's plight. In many ways the two characters are much alike, which makes their ultimate contest that much more poignant. Ms Weis was delightfully dizzy, reminding me that to be very bright is not necessarily to be very "together." Mr Vosloo's Imhotep is quite good. Over and over I am amazed by the gentleman's capacity to almost physically remake himself. His ability to imply history for his characters is notable, as is his ability to convey meaning through body language and facial expression. Probably one of the best characters however, is Benny, O'Connell's erswhile "friend." His capacity for self-preservation and self-advancement is delightful. Perhaps he represents just a little bit of all of us when he runs for cover in the face of adversity. .

Summary: Simple plot: Outstanding movie!
Review: "The Mummy" has a rather simple plot: Imohtep, the high priest of Thebes, and the pharoh's mistress fall in love, and they are caught sleeping together. The mistress is sentenced to death, Imohtep is cursed with the 10 plagues of Egypt, then buried alive with flesh-eating scarabs. Some thousand years later, a lady called Evie goes on an expedition with a group of people (including Brendan Fraser as Rick O'Connel), in search of the lost city Thebes. While they are there, they find Imohteps "juicy" Mummy, and Eivee reads from the book of the dead, that bringsa Imohtep back to life. If you want to find out next, watch the movie. Believe me, you won't be dissapointed!

Summary: Lighten Up From Boston
Review: I know, there are four canopic jars,not five, Seti I was an 18th Dynasty Pharoah and father of Ramses II of Biblical fame and wasn't murdered,Ankhesenamun(spelled correctly)wasn't a mistress,but King Tut's wife. As for Imhotep,he designed the pyramids under Pharoah Djoser,was a doctor AND a priest. If you want accuracy get A&E's the Mummies or TLC's the Great Egyptians. If you just want to be entertained and have fun this movie does a good job. It's SFX are great and I found characters enjoyable. It's pretty much non-stop action. Let's face it,The Mummy isn't the first Historically inaccurate movie Hollywood has ever made. Believe me, History is how I make my living.

Review: In the better style since Errol FLynn and Harrison Ford, this is first rate adventure movie, with humour, action, suspense and romance! The cast is inspired (Brendan Frase is the absolute underrated star, he can play any role and be convincent). But it's not a movie to watch more than one time!

Review: The Mummy is the most electrifying science fiction movie to hit the shelves recently. Many history professors at my Unviersity believe this film is somewhat factual and reliable to Egyptian culture and history. Hopefully a sequel will come out

Summary: Good old matinee action fun!
Review: This is a wonderful movie! Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz are wonderful as hero and heroine. They both have guts, brains, and looks to boot. The supporting characters are all quite good and add a great deal to the story, but John Hanna as Jonathan is simply marvelous as Evelyn's brother. Arnold Vosloo plays the Mummy as a frightening and vengeful creature, but you still feel sorry for him in the end. The action is great but not too violent. The "gross" parts of the film are never blood and gore. The special effects are amazing but do not take over or drive the film. The Mummy is a great popcorn movie that you will watch over and over again. The DVD has wonderful bonus features that show you how the effects are made, but even then that won't ruin the movie for you.
