Summary: A triumph of marketing over film making.
Review: This film is very, very silly. Fair enough if the viewer wishes to see a film that has not even a tenuous link to reality. Poorly made, poor attention to detail (real life representation) and sloppy continuity that is inexcusable in a movie of this budget. My advice to those that go gooey at the mention of Swayze and Reaves..... Do your self a favour and buy a poster, and watch that for a couple of hours instead.

Review: For some heavenly reason, this FBI/surfer movie lacked the need to list "the rules" of going undercover as most early 90's FBI, hitman, or criminal movie would do, instead, this movie takes on a more action role than a comedy role. For yet another great reason, this film turns and leads into a real climax after the main action scene, instead of slowing to a stop.

Summary: Keanu Reeves in a wet suit...who could want more?!
Review: I really like this movie a lot. It is VERY exciting. Keanu as an FBI agent who gets paid to surf...reality, huh? He and Busey have to infiltrate a band of bank robbers who are thought to be surfers. The bank robbers call themselves "The Ex Presidents" because they wear rubber life masks of ex presidents as disguises. I really like Keanu Reeves a lot. I don't care what he is doing...I will watch it! What a face! He could be changing cat litter and I'd pay to see him do it! Enough of that. This movie is hella cool! The skydiving scene at the end is my favorite, you GOTTA see it! I Also like the way this movie ends. I like the song by Ratt-Nobody Rides For Free over the credits, very appropriate. I love the ocean, so that's a plus. There are lots of good looking men in it...another plus. James Le Gros is excellent. First time I ever saw him...very impressive. Swayze is cool. Gary Busey's character is quite likable. Anthony Keidis of Red Hot Chili Peppers plays a beach hoodlum...yet another plus. This is just as exciting as Speed, but the story and characters are easier to get emotionally involved with. I didn't like Lori Petty as Keanu's love interest, no chemistry. And Keanu in a wet suit...worth the rental fee! What a man!

Summary: If you love chases...
Review: I've never been a big Swayze fan except when he's part of an ensemble (like in Red Dawn or Uncommon Valor), and here he's given a bit too much room to suck. As for Keanu... the guy has his good and bad days, most of them bad. But the saving grace of this film is excellent action sequences including one of the best foot chases I can recall ever seeing. From the pacing to the angles and editing, this makes you realize that not every chase requires squealing tires and over-revved motors to be entertaining.

Review: Cool surf scenes. Cool skydiving scenes. Cool dudes. Cool surfer chick. Cool California scenes. But don't expect a good plot. It's ridiculous. And Reeves should have stayed in Bill and Ted's. An FBI agent named Johnny Utah that jumps from an airplane without a parachute to catch the bad guy that has a parachute. Come on. And the end. Bad guy is surfer. Bad guy has told FBI agent next year, in Australia, there will be the biggest surf wave in 100 years and he will be there. Bad guy escapes from FBI agent. Next year FBI agent walks down on the beach in Australia with the biggest surf wave and, surprise!, bad guy surfer is there!

Review: it doesn't get any better than this. if you're californian and you surf, this is the movie for you. everything from the Coronas to the HB beach scenes. if you watch in cali you'll be glad that you're there and if you're somewhere else, you'll wish you were back

Review: I adore surfing. Nothing tops the feeling of pulling into a wave and taking part in the constant battle against the inconstancy of the sea, and when you get the better of it, it's like riding pure nature. I loved the film for all the classical reasons -action, romance, script etc, but what made it a classic was that it showed surfing as it really is. The passion in Bodie's cry at the end when Utah handcuffs sums up the obsession you can get with surfing better than mere words; believe me, I know. Watching the film is a good start, but going out and doing it'll show you what I mean. It's a beautiful film.
