Summary: Exceptional Film
Review: I first saw this film thinking "action film" or "buddy film"....but I came out at the ending thinking "a lesson in life" A film that is much, much more than it seems, if one is willing to hear the message. Great performance by the great Anthony Hopkins.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is what movie making is all about - deserves 10 Stars
Review: This is not some Grizzly Adams flick as some might think. Its an intellectual well written script, challenging the audience rather than dumbing it down as we often see.

One of the great movies of this decade.

Summary: a metaphor for life
Review: Every once in a while a movie comes along that tends to realign your thought process. The '50s had '12 Angry Men' the '70s had 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest' and the '90s has 'The Edge'.

The plot is simple. A group of men lost in the woods is trying to find their way back. The attitude they bring to this situation is the central theme of this movie. Hopkins' quiet focussed billionaire is a perfect foil to Baldwin's raving lost personality. The scene where the crude compass does not work is one of the best examples of character study in a movie. The bear is a metaphor for the seeming unscalable problems in life and how it is possible to conquer them.

The cinetamography is brilliant and the wilderness is captured in all its glory. The contradiction , of visual unforgiving nature and Hopkins 'never give up' lines , forms great drama.

Summary: Who directed? Hopkins or Tamahori!!
Review: Every so often Anthony Hopkins does a brilliant movie. This is not one of those times. An interesting story but not as gripping as had been promised. Also I saw little evidence of director Tamahori's workmanship, rumour has it he gave in to most of his star studded actors' suggestions.Alec Baldwin had nothing good to say about the experience. The only thing to commend it is the Alaskan scenery.A good movie but not good enough for your standards mr Tamahori.Better luck next time.

Summary: Best action movie ever
Review: This is the best Thriller/Action movie ever made. The plot is really really great and the movie never gets boring. It is an intense Thriller from the time they crash in the woods to the famous bear scene. If you're looking for a good non-boring Thriller/Action movie then this one is perfect for you.

Summary: It was very well done, and taught a lot about survival.
Review: At first I thought it would turn out to be a stupid movie but once I saw it. It turned out to be a very well done movie. I liked it a lot and hope to buy it someday.

Summary: The product of two superb actors!!
Review: This movie brought together human nature and the nature of the wild. Anthony Hopkins yet again captivated audiences with his magnificent perfomance, and the story is one that has all the elements of a perfect movie.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Does the book "Lost in the Wilds" exist?
Review: I am trying to find out if the book given to Anthony Hopkins' character really exists. I think it was called "Lost in the Wilds" by D. Croyle.

Summary: Edge being the operative word
Review: My one regret is not seeing this at my local cinema, but then it only ran for a week. I had intended to go and see it but decided to wait until next week... Thankfully I was able to rent it out on laserdisc and was hooked.

Edge of the seat entertainment indeed! Bart the Bear should have been given an oscar for best supporting actor - certainly he was a lot better than a lot of other film stars in other films.

This is a fine film which I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to watch a good taut thriller with some good characters. I get the feeling that some people see the name "Elle McPherson" and expect either a dumb movie so don't watch it or they expect lots of gratuitous sex and are disappointed. Its such a shame that her name is so prominent in the credits as she only appears for a short time, the film is dominated by the excellent performances of Hopkins and Baldwin. I certainly agree with one previous reviewer that one of the most shocking and powerful scenes has to be the character who falls prey to the bear.

On another note, I loved the scenery. This is a great film, I can't compliment it enough. Watch it, buy it, love it.

This is an excellent transfer, with very good sound. My only complaint would be the lack of features - even the laserdisc had sleeve liner notes (which gave information about Bart the bear and how he had to be shown how to be hostile and special wooden walkways had to be constructed so that he wouldn't damage his paws!)
