Summary: a pleasant suprise
Review: When this first came out i wasn't interested in it at all. It looked just like all those other dumb survivor movies. My Dad saw it on a buisness trip and convinced me to see it. I can honestly say that i realy realy enjoyed this movie. What made the movie very very good was Anthony Hopkins' character's interesting personality. His character loved to read and new almost everything it seemed like. If i tell to mutch about the movie it will ruin it but i suggest seeing this movie, it is my second favorite movie Anthony Hopkins' was in to Silence of the Lambs and you know how great that movie is.

Summary: Excellent Adventure, Superb Characters
Review: This film is one of the best that I have seen in a long, long time. It is extremely suspensful and has surprisingly interesting characters, especially Anthony Hopkins. You see both the best and worst in humans, and although Hopkins' character is not perfect, it does give you a touching example of man at his best. While I am not sure I would sit down to read a first-aide manual when someone is injured (do you try to save the guy and perhaps kill him through ignorance, or do you take a few minutes to read the manual, hoping to find out what to do?), Hopkins' character does show a quiet dignity and character that most people today don't even TRY to aspire to. The end is his "finest moment" and it would be lovely if we could all show the dignity that he did, in not humiliating his cheating wife and her lover. To let them off the hook with their public faces in tact shows a great deal of integrity, and perhaps is even more humiliating for the wife when she realizes that not only has she behaved very badly towards him, but that he knows it and can still behave better than she can!

A really excellent movie!

Summary: Yes, I rented this to see Bart the Bear. I admit it!
Review: Seriously, I felt sorry for the bear anytime anything bad happened to it, or it got poked with a stick and hurt. Hey, the big bear was just cranky from being hungry and wanted a little snack.

Yes, I know I sound like a moron. He was so cute, though. I know if I were ever confronted with a real bear when I was not at the zoo or Northwest Trek I would either soil myself, run like hell, or pass out, but I rented this movie to see the bear. Seriously, I thought I would be rooting for the bear the whole movie, but I did start to really feel sorry for the characters (though it was funny when they were trying to climb along that log and the bear thoughtfully decided to start jumping up and down on it trying to make them fall off) because the script and director did such a good job of making them likeable. Well, Alec Baldwin played a jerk, but I felt so sorry for Anthony Hopkins' character who was trying to hold it together, and I REALLY felt sorry for the poor injured man who got cornered by the bear and shook around by it like he was a Beanie baby (tm) being shook around by a hyper-active child. Yikes!

Overall, this movie was quite a bit better than I thought it would be though, and I thought it would be predictable but it wasn't. A few twists and turns actually surprised me. Tony Hopkins is great as usual, and Alec Baldwin shows he is still the most talented of any of the Baldwin Bros.

Might want to steer clear of it if you're already scared of bears in the first place, though.

Summary: lame title, on-the-edge-of-your-seat movie
Review: While Anthony Hopkins is one of the best actors in the business (at least in my opinion) I was wary of this film, especially in light of it's lame title. He did star in "The Road to Wellville," afterall.

I reluctantly watched this with a friend on tape after thinking I had escaped having to see it at all when we missed the last screening of it in theaters.

What a surprise this film was. I'm a big animal lover and I'm of the opinion, "if you don't want to get bitten by a shark, don't go in the ocean." My sympathy for animals is more fervent when it comes to mammals, including the misunderstood and much maligned Grizzly. I must say, however, this riviting tale of survival and 5-star acting had me wishing that bad bear dead as much as the characters who find themselves being hunted by the majestic beast. It's important to note that no animals were harmed in the filming of this movie.

Hopkins is excellent and just plain real in this role. A tension-filled fight for survival is broken only once by one comedic moment in the fim that just makes it bearable (pardon the pun) to endure. You really feel trapped w/ these folks and you realize what it is like to be hunted by an animal that is far more savvy than you are at the art of survival.

Summary: Great movie but DVD offers little more than VHS
Review: This is an excellent movie. There are a few sections that are not in the HBO version. If you you like Anthony Hopkins and the wilderness you probably will like this. However, I was disappointed that there were few DVD features.

Summary: The Edge
Review: Couldn't have been better. Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin, and Elle McPherson star in an awesome film from director Lee Tamori, with a great moral, great lesson, great number of suspenseful scenes, and is just plain a great flick. Hopkins plays billionaire Charles Morse, who with his wife (McPherson) and photographer friend Robert Green (Baldwin) and his partner decide to take a trip to the wild backwoods of Alaska. When Morse, Green, and their friend are thrown into the wilderness after a plane crash in a lake in the middle of who knows where, the group of men must add up eachother's bravery and try to escape from the edge, and not "die of shame", as quoted by Hopkins, while being pursued by a goliath kodiak bear. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE. It's rated R, BUT IT'S WORTH SEEING!

Summary: A thinking person's thriller
Review: It's been described as "Jaws" with claws, but this movie is so much more than that. Hopkins and Baldwin give fine performances that will keep you guessing until the credits roll.

I particularly enjoyed Hopkins' character. He's a man who remembers a lot of seemingly useless facts, until he's forced to rely upon some of them for his survival. His character is also a man of virtue - the kind of character not found in most motion pictures today.

A very enjoyable film.

Summary: Breathtaking
Review: "The Edge" is a breathtaking movie. It has great cinematography, excellent writing, two very strong performances, and great direction. This film is an underseen movie. This is a great movie and I highly reccomend it.
