Summary: The best Batman film, one of the best comic book films
Review: "Batman Returns" is an improvement over its predecessor in almost every single way, and in my opinion is the best entry in the franchise. This is largely because Tim Burton was allowed more creative freedom than with the first "Batman", and so pours his heart and soul into it. This is a Burton film more than anything else, and that's not a bad thing.One needed improvement in this one is that Michael Keaton gets to flesh out his character more. Bruce Wayne becomes more complex and sympathetic, a man who is doomed to protect Gotham but carries around deep personal insecurities. In fact, Batman in this film acts more like a Marvel comics character than the one-dimensional Batman of the cheesy 60's show. This feels more like Batman's film than the last one, and so makes us care about him more. The villains are the best of the series. Both the Penguin and the Catwoman are tragic characters that are somewhat sympathetic. In fact, Catwoman's struggle is probably the real heart of this film- she's vengeful towards those who have hurt her in the past, but not really evil, and her motives are always mixed. Michele Pfeiffer is absolutely terrific in this role. Danny DeVito gives an unusual performance as the Penguin- he's demented and mean, angry at a society that treated him so badly. Burton shows a certain fondness for the villains, so that we root against them but also sympathize with them at the same time. Those wanting a more two-dimensional villain will get it in the form of business tycoon Max Shreck, who's out to destroy whichever character he can if it will get him more power in the city. This was the best looking film of the series, even though future entries had bigger budgets and modern technology. Burton and designer Bo Welch create a dark and convincing Gotham, a dangerous place to live even during Christmas time. There's also a certain amount of fun shown in the look of this film that was not present in the first one, as made apparent by the designs of many of the buildings and the frequent use of clowns and cats. If you haven't guessed by now, I love this movie, and I believe it's the high point of the Batman franchise. People debate over whether this or the first one is better; they're pretty close in quality, but I believe this one is because it's a more complex and unique film. I only hope they re-release both of them on Special Edition DVD's someday with making-of features, because Tim Burton's vision of the Batman world was utterly fascinating.

Review: Batman Returns I gave 5 Stars just as I did for the first Batman film.Batman(Micheal Keaton)faces three foes this time!The sinister Penguin(Danny DeVito,the beuatiful,mysterious and slinky Catwoman(Michelle Phippher)and Max Shreck(Christopher Walken)who plans to take down Gotham's power supplie with Penguin's help.(Catwoman is one of my favirote Dark Knight villians the first!)This is another classic to treasure just like the original.The funniest part was when they were dancing and then KABOOM!They flew in the air one man hit a Christmas Tree!I first watched this with my 4 year-old cousin Skylar.I was impreesed and giggled on some parts with her.(By the way I'm seven)We loved the movie so much we watched it two more times when I came home I watched it three more times!I LOVE IT!!! ...

Summary: Excellent!!
Review: As much as I like the first one, this one is that much better. This is such a great film. The acting is superb, with terrific turns by Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Phieffer, and Christopher Walken. The whole cast is brilliant. I saw this one in the movies, and it was an experience I would never forget. I just wish the DVD had some extras though.

Summary: Keaton and Burton make Twisted music Together
Review: It was a given after the success of the the live action Batman movie that a sequel was going to be made, and you knew it was going to reach the heights set by the first one as well. Why, because original, and very visionary, director Tim Burton returns as does the best Batman to date, Michael Keaton with as much brooding menace as the first, although he is noticeably more comfortable this time around. And perhaps he should be. Not only is Burton helming, but an outstanding supporting cast was assembled that surpasses, surprisingly, the fine cast of the first which boasted a maniacal Jack Nicholson having loads of fun and Kim Basinger. To supplant the maniacal Nicholson is the demented Penguin, protrayed by a freakish looking Danny De Vito in a special effects wizard Stan Winston get-up. De Vito, however, is having tons of wicked fun, capturing every black, twisted facet of the Penguin. Michelle Pfeiffer replaces the concept of Vicki Vale as Batmans' love interest in favor of Selena Kyle, but Kyle is a character who has far more depth and, ultimately, is far more interesting than Vicki Vale. The one fact that Kyle undergoes a physcological transformation into Catwoman, becoming a tortured as Batman is enough to warrant that statement. Another adversary to Batman is added to the mix in scheming fellow billionaire Max Schrek. Christopher Walken has just as good a time a De Vito playing the slimy Schrek, looking to use the penguin in a scheme to control Gothams' power supply. Bruce Wayne/Batman begins to suspect that Schrek and the Penguin are up to something when he learns of some of the shady business behind Schreks' new power plant and the Penguin trying to become the mayor of Gotham, but Batman soon learns of Penguins' real ambitions involving the murder of all Gothams' children. Also thrown into the mix is Selena Kyle who looks to exact revenge on Schrek for his trying to kill her and get the Batman, who is her only rival in the night (does this look thrown together to anyone else). But screenwriter Daniel Peters (who concocted the story with Sam Hamm) keeps it plausible, while still adding enough dark and wicked humor for the masses to chew on. As general consensis, "Batman Returns" is bleaker and colder than the original, which it is. No one and nothing matches the gleefully evil persona that Jack Nicholson brought to the Joker or the atmosphere of noirish fun of the original (though "Returns" still boasts a ton of dark fun itself), but perhaps Burton and his crew didn't mean to do "Returns" that way in the first place. After all, this is the same director of "Edward Scissorhands" and the producer and creative force behind "The Nightmare before Christmas." The relative coldness and bleaker nature of "Batman Returns' probably fits the film-making of Tim Burton more than the original, which is maybe the reason why I found "Batman Returns" even better than the classic original.

Review: This is my second review for this movie.Orginally,I really hated this movie(read my first review to find out why)but it has really gotten better.I still think it is the weakest of the four but when you look past its flaws,it becomes way more enjoyable.See this if you are a Batman or Tim Burton fan.Ignore my other review for this movie

Summary: It's alright, but its too dark and gorey.
Review: The Penguin wants to make the world into one big winter wonderland. He also wants to know who his parents are and his true identity. Pretty good story, but this movie is highly slow-paced and tends to drag. At the same time, a Gotham City secretary gets pushed out of a window and becomes Catwoman.

Summary: More than solid sequel to the groundbreaking first film
Review: Tim Burton's first Batman film was, despite it's flaws, a masterpiece and helped set the standard for comic to film adaptations. This eagerly anticipated follow up was an instant hit, and saw the return of director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton. The fantastic set design and costumes are some of the many highlights here, but the standout performances from Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito as Catwoman and the Penguin respectively help make Batman Returns a more than solid sequel. Keaton is terrific as usual as the Dark Knight in what would prove to be his last performance in the series. There is a much darker vibe here than in the first film, and despite some of the film's flaws, it's still one of the better comic inspired films of all time.

Summary: One of the WORST movies EVER Made
Review: Michael Keaton's amazing performance,Catwoman,and the visual effects are the only thing saving this movie from being the worst film ever made.Danny Devito(boy he should have won that Razzie,and Christopher Walken,are horrible in this movie and the script is SO awful that a five year old could do better.I am so glad that Batmn Forever saved the series and Batman and Robin is 1000x better than that!Avoid this movie at ALL costs!!!!

Summary: Even more evidence that spandex does not look good.
Review: Returning costume designer, Bob Ringwood designed a very bulky and somewhat dark colored cheesy Batman costume in this second Batman movie. The material looked like a lot of black rubber that was difficult for Michael Keaton to wear in each scene. The Catwoman and Penquin costumes were also difficult to take seriously when you saw them. Everything from the costumes to all aspects of the film's production was over-kill and it made the movie not very pleasent to watch.
