Summary: "Batman Returns"
Review: One of the great ones. It's that rare sequel that goes one better on the original, and it goes to extremes. Superheroics are an afterthought here; director Tim Burton is clearly more interested in his characters and their own dark, twisted inner worlds. It was so in the first film, but here it's taken to an entirely new level; these three people are nakedly vulnerable, always on the edge of a breakdown (it's no accident that Rick James' "Superfreak" is heard during the masked ball). It's not too coherently put together, but it's profound and emotionally complete. Features Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Christopher Walken, all in top form.

Summary: The last great Batman
Review: "Batman Returns" is my favorite of the series. I am in the minority, I know. Michael Keaton returns as Batman/Bruce Wayne, this time he's fighting The Pengiun (Danny DeVito), Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer), and Christopher Walken. The plot is crazy, something about kidnapping all the first born children of Gothem City and holding them for ransom. It's the stunts, and characters that really still the show. Devito is absolutly the life of this party. He is like the Jack Nicholson's Joker, except deformed and probably more dangourous. The Catwoman is an S&M looking vigulante with a wierd fixation on Batman. Keaton dose a great job as the troubled Batman. I have always thought he was the best Batman, I wish he could have gone on to do it all the way through. The same goes for Tim Burton. We needed his wierd visuals later on; "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin" were in despereate need of the darker edge that Burton brought to the table. "Batman Returns" is the darkest of the series, all it's characters are depraves, even the good guys. The violence is grisly, and earned every inch of it's PG-13 rating. But I loved it.

Summary: Almost as good as the original. last of the best.
Review: Batman Returns continues to follow the dark vision of director Tim Burton's classic Batman. The production team improves on the dark moody visuals of the previous film by setting it during winter. Here the stark white snow creates a powerful contrast to the bleak gothic images of Gotham at night. However the in an attempt to outdo the previous Bat film, the producers begin the disturbing trend of pushing style over substance that would eventually lead to the end of the Batman franchise Thankfully, Burton manages to overcome this obstacle and maintains a high level of quality throughout this solid sequel.
Michael Keaton gives another great-understated performance as both Batman and Bruce. In BR, Keaton shows us how comfortable he's become playing the role of Batman; he blends parts of his own personality into both Batman and Bruce making the characters his own. Michelle Pfeiffer gives a great performance as Selina Kyle and her alter ego Catwoman. She shows tremendous acting range seamlessly transitioning from the mousy Selina Kyle to the feral, twisted Catwoman. While wearing the pale white make up and black costume Pfeiffer becomes another person altogether. Her chemistry with Keaton and onscreen intensity keep the film from collapsing in the final act. Danny Devito is great as the Penguin and Christopher Walken steals the show as the real villain of the piece as the evil Businessman Max Schreck. With Tim Burton's help these talented actors fend off the offscreen villain who would eventually defeat the franchise: Warner Bros Management.
Batman Returns has a great story; however it is lost in all the stunts and special effects tossed at the viewer. While an evil circus gang is terrorizing Gotham, Businessman Max Schreck is planning on building a power plant in Gotham city However, he can't get support from the mayor and Bruce Wayne who know there is no need for a power plant. Schreck attempts to gain the political power he needs to get the plant built by holding a recall election. Schreck recruits Oswald Cobblepot to run for mayor using pity for the misshapen penguin man to garner support for his candidate. However, Batman is aware of Schreck's scheme and he also knows that Cobblepot is the leader of the circus gang which has been terrorizing Gotham city. Also aware of Schreck's evil scheme is his shy secretary Selina Kyle. After Schreck pushes Kyle out of a window she snaps and becomes the mysterious Catwoman who seeks revenge on Schreck for destroying her life. To keep batman from revealing the secrets, Schreck and Cobblepot begin a campaign to discredit batman's credibility as the guardian of Gotham city by framing him for the murder of the Ice princess. Batman proves his innocence, however the story gets confusing after that. After his child-kidnapping plot is foiled, Penguin's attempt to destroy Gotham city with penguins wearing missiles. The climax where batman foils Penguin doesn't mesh together and the finale is disappointing with the exception of the scenes where Batman helps Catwoman's personality struggles with Selina's for dominance. Here Keaton, Pfeiffer and Walken save the film from collapse by overcoming the weak parts of the script with great acting.
For Comics fans: Selina did not die; the awnings and the snowdrift broke her fall. The cats who revived her and the Cheshire cat mascot of the Schreck's store are what led to create the Catwoman personality. Selina spends most of the movie fighting not only Schreck, but also the "Catwoman" personality inside her for control.
All of these stories are hard to follow because just as you start to understand the plot here comes another stunt or visual effect to distract you. The campy stunts make it hard to find the substance of the story. It took multiple viewings for me to catch these plot points; If not for Tim Burton's focus they would have been ignored completely. I highly recommend this film but I also suggest that you stop buying batman films from here. Without Burton and Keaton around this whole franchise falls completely apart.

Summary: Best Batman
Review: "Batman Returns" is, in my oppinion, is the best batman movie so far. With the directing of Tim Burton, and acting of Michael Keaton, this movie is a must see for Batman fans. This movie delivers exactally what a comic book/super hero movie should deliver-what was in the comics.
Batman Forever was not a bad movie, in fact it was good, it was just different; but "Batman and Robin" i found to different. They turned Gotham City into a place where the villans wore neon lights, and even the Batman costume was changed. After first seeing "Batman and Robin", then watching "Batman", then "Batman Returns" i realized "Batman" and "Batman Returns" give a much more darker, more real, Gotham City, and even Bruce Wayne seams like a much more "real" character.
Basically, the story is about a child that was abondoned by his parents, lived in the sewer for years, and became "Penguin",played brilliantly by Danny Devitto, or as we later learn "Oswald Coblepot". Also its the story of a depressed secretary, Selina Kyle, working for a rich, popular and sexist buisnessman played by Christipher Walkins. Selina Kyle is finally driven off the edge, or off a buildind (you'll understand when you see the movie) and becomes "Catwomen" as only Michelle Phipher can play her.
While "Penguin" tries climbing the social, and political ladder, "Catwomen" tries to get revenge, and Batman is all in the Middle of it, just trying to save Gotam yet again.
"Batman Returns" is truly the best of its kind. The betrayal of Michelle Phipher as Catwomen, and Danny Devitto are unforgettable, and I still belive Michael Keaton is so far the Best Batman. This movie is deffinatley great for Batman Fans

Summary: BEST Batman yet!
Review: Far superior to its predecessor, this film had it all. Top notch acting, good writing, action, humor and darkness! Michelle Pfeiffer made living history as Catwoman. She took a well known character and made it all her own. Unfortunately the severely untalented Halle Berry has now taken over the Catwoman legacy so it is inevitable let-down. Well at least we will always have Michelle in black vinyl with a bull whip making men pay for their oppressive & misogynistic ways.

Summary: Great Action, just like Batman
Review: I must say that Batman Returns is a great addition to the Batman movie collection. Michael Keaton is quite possibly the best Batman they have ever casted. If you are going to buy this movie, you should definitly get the others as well.

Summary: In my opinion the BEST Batman movie ever!!!
Review: Yeah, the first Tim Burton Batman movie was really good(would have been better if they didn't have annoying Kim Basinger!), but this movie is just AWESOME! Why? Because CATWOMAN and the PENGUIN are just awesome in this all over! I saw this when it first came out to video and I had never been into comics nor did I have a favorite female comic character(like most girls do). Well after seeing Michelle Pfeiffer practically steal the whole movie as Catwoman, Catwoman became my fav comic character and still is! Michelle is just AWESOME!!! I wanted to be her so badly as Catwoman! I became practically obsessed with Catwoman and I would watch this movie obsessively! And Danny DeVito is just perfect as the Penguin! He is just awesome as well! I just love this movie, and it's definitly my FAV Super Hero movie ever! I wish Michelle had done a spin-off as Catwoman! That would have been a dream come true!!!

Summary: NOT AS ENTERTAINING AS THE ORIGINAL, BUT, IT'S STILL GOOD
Review: THIS TIME, BATMAN [MICHAEL KEATON] RETURNS TO BATTLE THE PENGUIN [DANNY DEVITO] AND THE CATWOMAN [MICHELLE PFEIFER]. NOT AS ENTERTAINING AS THE FIRST, BUT, IT'S STILL A GOOD MOVIE. IT'S A GOOD THING THAT MICHAEL KEATON RETURNED AS BATMAN FOR THIS ONE. CAUSE IF HE DIDN'T, THIS ONE MIGHT NOT HAVE TURNED OUT SO GOOD. IT HAS ENOUGH ACTION AND ENOUGH GOOD SCENES TO MAKE IT WATCHABLE. THIS WAS THE SECOND AND LAST BATMAN MOVIE THAT WOULD EVER FEATURE MICHAEL KEATON AS BATMAN.

Summary: The best of all Batmans
Review: When I saw the first Batman by Tim Burton I thought for sure that the sequel wouldn't be as good, because it so often isn't. I was therefore very surprised to love this one much more.

Michelle Pfeiffer is one of my favorite actresses, because I always found fascinating the tough-girl-but-good-person aura she gives. I love the combination of that with the character of Cat woman, who's all that plus the vulnerability, the body, the shiny suit, the one liners, the acrobatics, the whip...It's so bloody exciting! If I was an actress I would kill for a part like that. As I am not, I admit I wish I WAS like that!

Also, it's a movie full of unforgettable lines, something that seems to have gone out the window when the golden era of actresses like Joan Crawford was over, lines like "I don't know about you miss Kitty, but I feel so much yummier", and "You can never have too much power", not to mention the dialog about the dangers of mistletoe that takes place between Batman and Cat woman.

One of the best movies ever made and certainly my favorite as far as Tim Burton's movies go.
