Summary: Bad wiring
Review: I greatly enjoyed this movie when it first came out and was excited to see it on DVD. The DVD is still as enjoyable as I remember it and the stunts are spectacular. However, there are several scenes where the safety harness apparatus/wiring is plainly visible, especially in the scene in the apartment where Remo gets to his room by climbing/tightrope walking around. It was also noticeable on the Statue of Liberty and on the hanging log scene. This detracts a bit from the spectacular stunts.

Summary: Just Plain Fun
Review: This film is highly entertaining. The casting is perfect with Fred Ward as Remo and Joel Gray as Chung (sp?). Mr. Gray was an especially good choice as a dancer. His movement was able to convey the martial arts action at a time when American film hadn't discovered Hong Kong. I was always disappointed the series wasn't continued on film.My only complaint regarding the DVD is the format was modified instead of leaving it wide-screen and enhanced for 16x9. Obviously this was a straight transfer from film. Nevertheless, the picture quaility is pretty good.

Review: I can't tell you how disappointed I was when Remo Williams FINALLY was released to DVD and MGM had the temerity to release it in FULL-FRAME (pan and scan) rather than widescreen in its original theatrical aspect ratio! It's 2003, MGM...people are savvier about film than they used to be, and we want to see our favorite films the way they were originally presented in the theater! I don't even demand "extras" like commentary or making-of documentaries...just a crisp transfer in anamorphic widescreen with enhanced sound. Is that so much to ask? Four stars for the movie "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" - a wonderfully engaging '80s action-adventure flick that doesn't take itself too seriously, featuring terrific performances by Fred Ward and Joel Grey - and one star for the crummy presentation it received on DVD. Remo deserves so much better than this.

Summary: If it's not in the correct aspect ratio it shouldn't be sold
Review: I was one of the many who wanted to purchase this movie and have been waiting for a DVD release. I'm no big fan of the movie, but it is a fun-filled action romp that just about everyone should find enjoyable in one way or another. Unfortunately, MGM continues their short-sighted position that movies that do not qualify as epics or blockbusters do not deserve the appropriate and correct widescreen version that it deserves. The notion that only particular movies deserve to be butchered for the sake of an apathic general public is mind-numbingly absurd. This continues to astonish videophiles such as myself in that MGM has released less-appealing and less-popular movies not only in widescreen but also in anamorphic widescreen for higher resolution on widescreen TVs. This DVD could have been a superb DVD had it been given the right treatment. Even DVD authoring packages meant for the home are capable of 16:9, widescreen presentations. The fact that a major studio cannot put forth the same DVD creation effort that someone can do in their own home is completely mind boggling.

Summary: We want a sequel!
Review: Too bad they never made a sequel of this movie. It's on my top ten list of favorite movies, and I've been waiting for years for it to finally appear on DVD. Too bad it's full screen only, but I'll take what I can get. For bargin bin pricing, I'm not going to complain too loudly. Some people don't like the campiness of this movie, or diss it because the martial arts aren't Jackie Chan-like in quality. I think that's the whole point of the movie, Chun isn't trying to be like Chan... As Joel Grey says at the end of the movie "No, I am better than that...". I generally like Fred Ward, and the Chun character is over the top.

Review: I dind't realize until after I got it home that this was full frame not WIDESCREEN. I am returning it. When will the studios learn that we want films in their orignal display.

Summary: Nooooooo! Full Screen Format?! Why?!
Review: It wasn't until after I purchased this DVD that I realized it was full screen format. WHY, WHY, WHY?! Don't studios realize that we want widescreen? At the very least, they could put a large disclaimer on the front. This bites. Remo Williams is a great movie and deserves better than this cut rate DVD.

Review: One of my favorite movies of all time ... been waiting for it to come out on DVD... planned on buying it... but it isn't in widescreen! Whats up with the studio?? Whats wrong with Original Aspect Ratio/Widescreen? Very Frustating... I'm not buying.

Summary: Casting and Destroyer Books Better than Movie
Review: The first 2/3 of the film are quite good. The unfortunately it is just like any other by the numbers action film. That's truly a pity because you have great characters, a wonderful series of books that the movie is based on and a great cast with Fred Ward
making a surprisingly excellent Remo and Joel Grey despite it not being political correct perfect as Chiun. The set piece at the Statue of Liberty is pretty interesting but unfortunately Jackie Chan has done this sort of thing much better. When we get to the standard explosions and such you long for the wit and wisdom of the books and the characters. Missed opportunity. Hopefully they will try again... hey, put Jackie Chan in old age make as CHIUN and get Jason Statham from The TRANSPORTER as REMO...

Summary: Where's the widescreen
Review: I liked the movie back in the day, and seeing it again recently was very nostalgic. If it was widescreen, I probably would have picked it up. If I wanted fullscreen, I'd just tape it the next time it runs on the SciFi channel.
