Summary: look both ways before crossing the road
Review: I've seen this movie a really long time ago but for some reason still remember it even though it wasn't such a great movie . As a kid I thought at times it was very unbelivable , but lets face it , if you are going to make a movie about a killer car you should prepare to make some sacrafices like why all those pepoles insist on staying on the road when being cahsed by it when they can go sideway ?

Summary: A Scary Silly Concept Done Perfectly
Review: No need to go over the plot or setting of this film -- most people looking here have already seen it. This is a story somewhere in the wilderness between "Christine" and "Duel", conceptually speaking.

Of course, it's your basic "inexplicable horrible thing killing people" story, but that's a reliable little plot that almost certainly goes back to tribal storytellers sitting by fires at night keeping the rest of the tribe entertained while they chipped flint or wove blankets.

What sets this film apart is its sly cleverness; at least one review here has mentioned the car's visible frustration at not being able to enter hallowed ground. Several have mentioned that spooky airhorn that lets you know the car is stalking, even if you can't see it yet.

And that final credit shot... *that's* scarey.

Something i've never noticed anyone mentioning -- possibly becausde the Arizona mountains are so far from a seaside resort conceptually -- is the fact that the first nasty thing we see the car do, as it torments and then slaughters two bicyclists in the mountains is edited and shot in a manner and cadence that exactly matches the opening sequence of "Jaws".

And "Jaws" is an apt comparison for this film -- a two-ton monster that seemingly strikes where and when it will and then disappears to lurk silently and menacingly until it's time again...

((The authors of this film's screenplay also wrote a thoroughly over-the-top Clint Eastwood vehicle, "The Gauntlet", which you might want to checdk out...))

Summary: Long over due, but finally here!!!
Review: I too have been waiting for what seems like an eternity for this movie to finally make it to vhs/dvd. I first saw The Car when I was 8 years of age (now 31) and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I would bug video store clerks about it, but it seems like most people have never heard of such movie, that is until now. Great intense action/car chases some unreal parts like when the car rolls over on top of the two police cars, but hey, its The Car baby. The other thing I love about this movie is the car itself, the design, engine/exhaust sound, and the horn. What a creepy (but great) sounding horn. One of these days I'm going to build a replica. The movie is great pure B-movie material, by far the best when compared to movies like cristine, duel, hell on wheels etc.... One of the reviewers said something about a 2hr 15mn, R-rated version of the film, I've never heard such a thing. ...

Summary: The "Bad Boy" car of all time!
Review: I saw this movie when I was much younger (I'm 32 now). All I remember was this ominous black hot rod from hell - hardly visible through all the dust and smoke. My first thoughts were that it was the coolest car I'd ever seen - only I couldn't see the whole thing. It was always hidden by the dust it was kicking up or the shadows of the night. The sound of the engine was unreal! What's under that hood! I could just imagine sitting inside it and behind the wheel of something soo powerful and fast. And it's black/ yellow tinted glass and bumpers- very cool details. Finally the horn - man you knew you were in trouble and better hightail it outta there when you heard that horn!

The only other car even remotly comprable would be "The Interceptor" from the Mad Max and Road Warrior movies. Forget the rest. This car rocks!

Summary: Satan's hod rod Lincoln
Review: I remember seeing this one alone late at night (in my parent's house with the big picture window facing the point where the road forks to bypass our house and car light shining into the darkened family room) when I was little and I watched most of it from under a blanket. I watched the DVD from under a blanket as well. Despite bad acting, a dumb script, and some looooong parts with no action, the movie really manages to create a sustained feeling of dread that never lets up until the (admittedly hokey) end. The cinemetography and special effects are great, and George Barris' Car is really menacing looking (See Barris TV & Movie Cars in books- it has a short section on it), and a better actor than most of the stock cast. Great, creepy fun.

Summary: Good for a few unintended laughs.
Review: This low-budget '70s popcorn flick is worth watching for sheer camp value, but unless you're less than eight years old don't expect horror or suspense. Or, for that matter, good acting, dialogue, cinematography or direction.

Too bad cable's late, great "Mystery Science Theater 3000" never got around to featuring this turkey. They could've had a lot of fun with it.

Summary: The best since Christine
Review: This movie was awsome. It was better than the 1984 film "Christine". But "The Car" was more action. It takes place in a small town and the people in that town has been reported of murderers occurring by a black car that drives fast. Some people's stories said that they saw inside, but no driver. The car must be possibly possed an unknown agency.

Summary: No, it ain't Tolstoy... it's a MOVIE, people!!
Review: Plenty of reviewers bash this flick for all the usual valid reasons...which in turn proves that they themselves are simply retreads of old ideas. Yea, there isn't much new in this film, and the writing, acting and directing are all pure B-movie quality. So what?!? All these faults are equally present in the highest grossing film of all time- TITANIC! OK, maybe the boat's director is higher caliber...granted. But taken for what it is, 'The Car' is a good time, with a few unique moments that were still fresh in my mind 20 years later, before the VHS and DVD re-release came out. Things like the musician's belief the driver would be a babe that would ruin his back..in a good way. Or the Car's frustration at being unable to enter the cemetary...it actually LOOKS angry about it! Then there's the 'rolling-pin-two-cop-car-squash' stunt...the sound of the car's exhaust and horn...and the cheesy-but-spooky face in the fire at the end. You won't need a thesaurus to decode the deep dialogue....the acting won't rival Sir Lawrence Olivier. But it sure beats two hours spent watching ANYTHING available on TV today!! WooHoo.....drop the hammer, and let's go run over a few innocent pedestrians!

Summary: The baddest, raddest car / road movie in memory
Review: I first saw this movie in the early seventies, and it knocked my socks off. Old Nick on a Sunday drive! Gosh! The potential of such a premise! A deliciously enjoyable thrill-ride (no pun intended!), I rooted for THE CAR of the title all the way, and saw it FOUR times in the cinema. It was one of the defining moment of my childhood memories, and when it came out in DVD, I was overjoyed! Bought two copies immediately! Features some of the most amazing car chase and crash sequences movie special effects has managed to produce - including the world-famous roll-over death-crush scene which is totally unbelievable - I mean how did they do it!? It was so good! Playing the DVD I ran over that amazing sequence over and over again, in slo-mo, then in freeze-frame frame-by-frame. Gawd it was good! GO FOR IT! And let the ride begin ..... B->
