Summary: A new classic for the millienium.
Review: This is it! This is the movie that will blow you away from your couch and into another world of wonder.

This is based on the first of the trilogy, it's set in Middle-earth many eons ago when Man and Elf were friends and Rings were made for rulership, a Hobbit named " Frodo Baggins" has been hired by Gandolf the Wizard ( Ian Mckellen) on a dangerous quest along with the other hobbits " Pippin", " Mery" and " Samwise" to destroy the one and only powerful Ring of Sauron in the place that was once made.

This is an incredibly, amazing and spectacular 3-hour feast of magic, imagination, Elves, Dwarves, Demons, Swordfights and everything so fanciful that makes it a new classic. Last year, the long-dead fantasy genre was saved thanks to " Harry Potter" and " Lord of the Rings", i am a fan of Fantasy :) and these became two of the best movies i have ever seen last year. A must own DVD and coming in November is the offical Director's cut with more footage and audio commentary by Peter Jackson.

It will become a classic among the fantasy genre along with The Wizard of Oz, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Princess Bride, The Last Unicorn, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone, Conan The Barbarian, Legend, Big Trouble in little China, The Neverending Story, Return to Oz, Highlander, Dragonheart, Ladyhawke, and others.

Summary: The best Fantasy movie ever made
Review: This is it, folks. Jackson has worked a miracle, cast of spell of movie magic that has never been seen on film before. The film is a treat for the eyes and senses, a perfect blend of cinematography, acting, special effects, and that certain something that is hard to pin down. Yes, it remains faithful to the books, but adds Jackson's own warped perspective to make it something unique that i think Tolkien would be proud of.
I never would have believed the 3 hours you sit [down] would fly by, but by the end i was ready to sit down and watch the 10:30 showing all over again. I didn't want the magic to end, and i didn't want to leave Middle Earth. Needless to say, i will be back in the theater before the week is out.
And as a side note, i have been a D&D player for many years, and for all those who share that hobby, it is evident from this film where the game took so many of its elements. Even better, for those who want to know what heart-pounding combat looks like, take note of the battle with the cave troll; it's fantastic...

Summary: SEE IT...TRUST ME
Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. And if it's my favorite movie, then you should go and see it. Yes, I'm a nerd. All I do is play video games and watch movies, which means I know what a good movie or game is when i see it. This has just the right, well, everything in it. The music is perfect for it, the characters well portrayed. Bueatiful scenery, excellent picture, and astonishing moments are what should make you go see this. Some scenes made my heart pound and almost shout. I can not wait for this to come out on DVD. I'm definitely getting it, and so should you. Only one person I talked to didn't like it, and he's the kind of person that can't sit through a minute of talking in a movie. Also he hates almost every other movie out there, so there ya go. I suggest you see this movie NOW, buy all the books (yes, including the Hobbit), and wait for the chance to preorder it. Trust me, you'll love this movie.

Summary: Best movie I've ever seen
Review: This is no doubt one of the best movies I have ever seen. Two of my friends kept talking about it and I just had to see it. The special effects were very realistic. Thanks Jesse and Adam for irritating me about not having seen it. But now I have and know who the hell they're talking about. I respect the director for following the book so closely.

Summary: Mac DVD watchers beware
Review: This is not a critique of the film, but of the discs themselves. Disc 2 of the feature does not and will not play on a Macintosh in DVD Player, so if that's how you were hoping to watch it, don't bother. It stops roughly halfway through disc 2 and nothing after that will play. I have tried on 2 copies now and the same happened to a friend whose discs were from a different source.

Summary: Lord of the Rings
Review: This is not a movie for cops & robbers fans. A child would appreciate it because of its Disney-like effects but it conveys a serious message for philosophical-minded adults. The young boy hero is depicted at the beginning of the show enjoying life as any one would in his home village. Then a life responsibility is thrust upon him forcing him to journey away from home into the unknown with some of his older wiser and younger more valiant friends, both of whom drop away just as in real life.

So with only one pal left, he is forced to make decisions that sometimes lead him to close brushs with Heaven and with Hell. The viewer sees this but is not told the actual analogy so must perceive how the film relates to real life. This is a five star film if the viewer has the intellectual insight to understand its true philosophical message but for the viewer who is looking for a 2 hour comedy or tragedy, this film could be meaningless. A naive child would enjoy it more for its special effects than a non visionary adult would enjoy it anecdotally.

By all means see this 3 hour film if you've pondered extensively life's travails. But if you are looking for just two hours of entertainment, this film could be close to meaningless for you.

Summary: 30 min makes all the difference
Review: This is not deleted scenes tacked on. This is not promotional cheese that will waste your time. This is 30 minutes of fully edited, visually mastered, enhanced and orchestrally scored footage seemlessly integrated into the film. Many of the added scenes are vital to understand the story, while others allow each location, race or character to breath and develop. I agree with the critic, there's simply no need to ever see the theatrical version again.

Summary: Extended Version - WOW !
Review: This is not so much an extended version of the theatrical release as it is the complete, uncut version (although the director denies this) - not complete in terms of what Tolkien wrote but complete in terms of the scope of the film production. Next to the theatrical version it contains many extended scenes and some altogether new scenes all of which work very well indeed and add a great deal to the movie in terms of content and pace. The overall pace is a little slower and more measured with greater emphasis on the journeys and the relationships of the Fellowship - more satisfying and truer to the book. A number of scenes omitted from the theatrical release which set up events in the later books are included - these are generally so crucial to the plot that it is difficult to understand why they were left out in the first place. Characters such as Haldir and Celeborn, who had little more than cameo roles in the theatrical release, are much more fleshed out and Galadriel is allowed to show her kinder, softer aspect in addition to the dark, dangerous elf queen seen in the cinema version.

The extras -

A superb and mind boggling array of by far the best thought out and most generous special features that I've ever seen on DVD. Documentaries on all stages of production from Tolkien's childhood through to the opening night in Wellington, maps of the shire, several commentaries, stills, and more - all accessed via a beautifully designed set of suitably Tolkienesque menus.

Conclusion -

I would not have believed it possible but all of the additional footage in this extended version of The Fellowship Of The Ring adds up to a vast improvement on the theatrical release. Add to this the truly superb special features and improved theme packaging and you have a DVD set that should be indispensable to any fan of the book, film, tolkien or just good movies in general. Buy it - you'll never watch the theatrical release again.

Summary: A Classic Fantasy Epic
Review: This is one of my favorite movies, based on one of my favorite books. I love the 2nd disc and the effects are realistic as heck. It is a great buy. I'm confused why it hasn't won Best Picture. Tip- get the Widescreen. It shows more than the Fullscreen.
