Summary: Virtually Faultless
Review: This film is everything I had hoped it would be. The acting is faultless, the special affects breath taking and the scenery beautiful. If you have not read the book you will be delighted and will immediately purchase a copy of all three books. If you have read the books you will probably not find the film perfect, and I will leave the good moments for you to discover yourself. I personally believe that it is about as good an adaptation as is possible. However listed below are changes from the book, from least to most annoying:

1) Everything is hurried along, they never stay at places as long as they should. However this is to be expected.
2) Gandalf's sword Glamdring does not glow like sting.
3) Merry and especially Pippin are used as comic relief, this distracts from the serious aspects.
4) Galadriel does not give gifts to the entire fellowship, merely Frodo.
5) The fellowship does not break up the way it should, though this is only a slight deviation.
6) Tom Bombadill and Farmer Maggot are cut out.
7) Gandalf's letter is cut out.
8) The bit when the fellowship is attacked by wolves is cut out.
9) Instead of Glorfindel they use Arwen.
10) Radagast is cut out.
11) Sam does not look into the Mirror of Galadriel. There are extra visions and the vision of Frodo lying underneath the rock face as if dead is cut.
12) The ending spills over into the Two Towers and does not end on a cliff hanger.
13) Aragorn's sword Narsil is not reforged.
14) Aragorn has doubts about himself. He has his ancestor's weaknesses and has strayed from the path of Kingship. Where did that come from? It's just stupid.

Having said that, the film is brilliant. The characters are either just as I imagined them or are portrayed differently but more interestingly. Particularly good performances from Ian Mckellan, Christopher Lee, Sean Bean, Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen.A must see.

Summary: Have you ever been astonished for three hours?
Review: This film is literally so great that absolutely no film in its fantasy genre deserves to stand up for comparison. George Lucas might as well retire right now -- his Star Wars work (as good as it sometimes has been) would not be qualified to stand as a footnote to this staggering production! The depiction of Middle Earth is so convincing that we feel completely immersed in the illusion. The effects are so consistently seamless that I usually had no idea where the digitalization began and ended! And the details of the various depictions draw the viewer inexorably into the scenes. The screenwriting is so finely tuned that we quickly find ourselves caring simultaneously about a great number of characters. Ian McKellan, Liv Tyler, Cate Blanchette, and various others are magnificent. This is the most creative production I have ever seen! Little wonder it has so far been the big winner of 2001 -- it is clearly Best Picture.

Summary: Absolutely superb!
Review: This film is movie-making at its finest! Not only has Peter Jackson accomplished an almost-impossible task, but he has brought this entire world of Tolkien to life. Perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings and fans of good, deep movies. The acting is wonderful with Elijah Wood adding his terrific talent and innocence to Ian McKellen's amazing adaptationg of everyone's favorite wizard, Gandalf. This is a must-see for everyone! A true masterpiece.

Review: This film is perfect and magical in every way,but if the dvd specifications are correct,WHERE is the DTS ES 6.1 transfer? There is no other way to see this film, you need that extra surround back channel to fully appreciate this masterpiece(2 speakers behind the listener). They got everything else right with this dvd,but they dropped the ball big time with the sound transfer.I'll wait to see if a 6.1 DTS transfer wil be offered. As a result some audio information from the master print will have to be deleted in order to accomodate the DD 5.1 track. There are sounds found in the original that will not be on the DVD.

Summary: Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring Review
Review: This film is really great! It has many different worlds that you can watch and fell that you are there. For example Orcs, Wizards, Elfs, and much more!!! This is only the first film out of three. Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring has a very talented main character that this film is greatfull to have Elijah Wood!!! Elijah Wood also will be in all three of the Lord of the Rings films. Elijah Wood also stared in The Adventures of Huck Finn, Flipper, Oliver Twist, and so many more!!! I think that even though this film has so wicked and scarry parts in it, it is still a very good film over all. People who have kids that get scarred easily should not see this film but many people love this film and if you like Harry Potter you will love this film!!!! I suggest you see it today!!!!

Summary: Not a movie person, but I LOVED this movie!!
Review: This film is the best! I'm sure the trilogy is going to go down in cinematic history! It did such a good job of making this story come alive. No home video collection is complete without it!

Summary: The fantasy movie we've been waiting for all these years!
Review: This film is true, hardcore fantasy. No cyberpunk or technology. Just good old fashioned hack, slash & wizardry!

I caught this movie the first day it was released and am so glad I did. Yes, it is 3 hours long, but any epic is going to be lengthy. This film does the book justice. The one thing I was impressed with was the fact that it wasn't "watered down" for the kiddies. It is rated PG-13 and there are some violent fight scenes that don't apologize when people (or orcs) get killed. I was thoroughly impressed with the way they were able to digitally manipulate the hobbits so that they were able to use average sized actors, yet they were still about 3 feet tall! And you couldn't tell there was any manipulation! Clever!

I totally agree with another reviewer who said this movie beats Star Wars. I am a Star Wars fan and also say that this film does so much more for me than George Lucas ever did. (Of course I'm a Dungeons & Dragons fan, so that sways my vote a little.)

I was pleased with the casting also. I thought some roles would be compromised with the likes of Liv Tyler. But none of the big names became pre-madonnas. I was pleased to see Ian Holm as Bilbo and an openly gay Ian McKellan as Gandalf.

It just brought back so many memories. If you're remotely interested in the fantasy genre, you owe it to yourself to see this film and the next two chapters in the trilogy once they're released.

Summary: Simply magical!
Review: This film is without a doubt the best fantasy film I've ever seen. Even if you are not a fan of Tolkien or a die hard follower of the fantasy genre, you'll enjoy this movie.

Ian McKellan as Gandalf steals the show. He is wise, benevolent, courageous. He fills the screen with a poweful and memorable performance. Liv Tyler as Arwen, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn and Elijah Wood as Frodo, Cate Blanchette as Lady Galadriel and, a favorite of mine, Ian Holm as Bilbo all turn out superb performances.

Though this film is approximately 3 hours in length -- the time slides by quickly. The scenery and special effects are simply top notch! I loved the intense action sequences and the unfolding story of loyalty and bravery sang to my heart.
