Summary: This Core is mostly cold
Review: THE CORE is pretty much a throwback to all those cheesy disaster movies of the '50s and '60s-- you know, WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, THE DAY THE EARTH CAUGHT FIRE, CRACK IN THE WORLD, only with modern sensibilities. Unfortunately, it is too jokey and formulaic to generate much suspense, a necessary ingredient in this sub-genre. What suspense is there when you have several hair-breadth escapes in which everyone escapes without a scratch? And for all the director's emphasis on Characters, it is peopled with stereotypes. The special effects are impressive but, being CGI, you don't see them interact with people (in the Rome sequence, for example, no one gets knocked down by flying debris; and why only one person on the Golden Gate bridge?) Though others have faulted the science, my problem is how they would be able to keep a lid on all this pre-apocalyptic destruction without anyone catching on (Art Bell anyone?). My advice? Dial your brain to LOW and enjoy.

The director's commentary is, by turns, awkward, boring, informative, and unintentionally hilarious. A nice time-killer if you're bored, but no great insights here.

The MAKING OF documentary is only 11 minutes long, and also isn't very informative.

The VISUAL EFFECTS are also short, but I found them the most fascinating of all the special features.

The DELECTED SCENES are short (all about a minute or so each) and are all lumped together, apparently befitting their lack of importance.

Basically, if you're looking for a good Saturday afternoon matinee thrill ride, this is worth a rental or cheap buy, but not much more than that.

Summary: Totally incompetent and dim witted. Go and get a life....
Review: I'm embarrassed. I wrote some stuff about physics and said (or implied) that there were some redeeming features about it.

I'm a liar. There aren't ANY. This film honks totaly, and I think it's about time that I grew up, stopped all the useless verbal and told it how it is. This film is just rubbish, and maybe a sign that the hollywood moguls think even less of teenagers than I do. In fact, they just see them as dumbed down walking cash, and why not not make a movie like this, after all, they are to stooopid to know what happens when you bang the rocks together, or whatever.

I don't think so. At least teenagers have arms and legs, mostly, and can (in principle) think for themselves. Unlike certain film directors, who do exactly as they're told, for fear of the fat IDIOTS. Go and read a book. Go for a run or do some situps and work on your abs. Go and do anything in fact, it's better than this junk.

Summary: Godzilla films are looking better all the time......
Review: I kind of lauged outloud that Paramount had spend so much money on the visual effects work of this movie. Took an extra six months to make, then they release it, and it was pretty much a box office bomb. People barely noticed it. The complaints against this movie are the same; No script and cardboard characters. This is not surpriseing for a movie stuido that has allowed it's "Star Trek" film series to go down the drain.
and now back to Godzilla 2000.

Summary: Formulaic, but good enough time-filler !
Review: A typical Hollywood slam-bang action epic, complete with incredibly brilliant characters; an unbelievably pretty ship commander; the obligatory, politically-correct gender-and-ethnic representative cast; scientific gobbledygook of the highest order; and ambitious SFX that don't quite convince. Even allowing for one's suspension of disbelief, the whole enterprise strains at credibility. In the end, there is enough brio in this to just keep it - but only just - on the right side of plausibility. Good for the two hours, eminently forgettable thereafter.

Summary: ALRIGHT!
Review: I watched this last night and really liked it. I enjoyed the whole premise of the movie which is to save our Earth a craft must drill its way to the core and plant bombs to correct the Earths motion. Lots of neat ideas come up as they fiqure out how to do it. Of course its really beyond our science right now but I liked how they handled it. The movie keeps you interested as they encounter problems along the way. The actors portray themselves as really beliving that they are in the Earths core which helps the movie alot ,plus the special effects are very neat. Somthing besides space and car explosions. you have to suspend your serious side and just sit back and enjoy this movie and I belive you will.

Summary: Great Disaster/Science Fiction Flick!
Review: Just a really good movie all around. If you liked Deep Impact and movies like it then you'll like this. There are a couple technical things to nitpick but overall it's believable.

Summary: Armageddon....UPSIDE DOWN!!!
Review: I'm just a simple country girl but...can the earth's core really be "jump-started"??? Ok let's say that I bought the idea of this stupid thought for a mere moment...then I have to ask myself can a crew of people really survive in a "spaceship" type vehicle going so many miles per hour in the hottest and most pressurized environment on the planet, let alone get out of the ship and walk around in it??? Who writes this! Anyway, this movie interested me but only because of it's incredibly unbelieveable plot and situations (and because I loved Armageddon and let's face it...The Core is Armageddon switched upside down).

Summary: Old fashioned science fiction
Review: The Core is a throwback to a simpler time when you could park your sense of cognitive logic and just go along for a wild ride. The Core is a fun, wild ride. I hesitated to watch this film for quite some time as I feared it would be poorly done. Simply put...this is FUN science fiction. The characters are great to watch as a group dynamic. I recommend this inventive and enjoyably entertaining movie. (Don't be afraid to like it!)

Summary: "We're dodging diamonds the size of Cape Cod!"
Review: The above line spoken by Oscar winner Hilary Swank is indicative of the dialog in this special effects driven sci-fi saga. Swank plays an astronaut who along with Bruce Greenwood must pilot Virgil, a craft designed to burrow (with the assistance of one really mean laser beam) to the earth's core in an attempt to correct an imbalance that was doing serious damage to the surface above.

Also along on this unbelievable trip to the earth's center are respectable performers in stereotypical roles: Aaron Eckhart (the voyage's "studly" college professor), Alfre Woodard (mission commander), Delroy Lindo (the ship's inventor and symbol of self-sacrifice), Stanley Tucci (the despicable scientific genius with a hidden agenda), and Richard Jenkins as the mysterious military hardliner.

The film is passable entertainment.

I just kept waiting for the discovery of an underground "civilization" that might have been responsible for all the above ground havoc.
