Summary: Entertaining comic book flick
Review: Hey, I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it at the cinema. I've just finished watching the DVD version and I thoroughly enjoyed it all over again. X-Men is a simple, unpretentious movie based on the famous comic book series of which I have never read one issue. Smooth acting from Patrick Stewart hold this movie together and is compimented by a nice performance from Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and Anna Paquin (Rouge). I found the other actors a little too cheesey for my liking, but thats probably a true reflection of their comic book characters. The movie has cool, but not overly ground-breaking special effects. The plot is pretty basic, but that's comic books for you. The movie runs along at a nice pace and is pretty much action packed from beginning to end. The DVD has some nice extra features. All in all this is a fun movie which I have enjoyed on two occasions. I won't be viewing it again for a long time, and I'm undecided as to wether it deserves a place in my DVD collection. Recommended viewing for Science Fiction fans.

Summary: A Comic Book Movie Done The Right Way
Review: Not since 1989's Batman have we seen a comic book movie done this good. This movie in my opinion succeeds where movies like Spiderman failed. Unlike Spiderman, this movie takes its time developing the characters and you don't get that Power Rangers kind of vibe during the fight scenes. The acting and dialog are also much better than Spiderman since Bryan Singer avoided campiness as much as possible. The DVD is just incredible..... loaded with special features and 5 star video and sound quality. Don't worry about the new tinkered-with special edition, stick with the original.

Summary: Comic book heros all grown up
Review: Ok, ok, so many grown-ups still read and enjoy comic books. But what if you AREN'T a comic book afficionado? Can you still enjoy X-Men?

The answer is a resounding YES!!! X-Men manages to leave in the brains and surprises, while still keeping true to the comic book genre, with heroes that have single word names that leave little to the imagination (Storm, Magneto, Cyclops, etc.) Each hero--mutants in this case, has a singular super-power such as the ability to heal instantaneously from nasty blows, blowing up building with a single glance, or generating Force 5 gales by some concentrated staring. What keeps this from being cartoonish is the great acting by a fabulous cast Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) as the battling forces of Good vs Evil, Famke Janssen as Dr. Grey and superb Anna Paquin as Rogue, the girl whose touch is fatal.

The special effects really bring these powers to life. The sets are stunning, especially Professor Xavier's School for the Gifted in Westchester, NY. The underground complex and Cerebro device are exceptionally well-created. The final battle scene is very creative--not one car chase needed in this film!

One of my friends claimed that X-Men was better than Matrix. While I don't agree that X-Men is better, if you liked Matrix, you probably will like X-Men.

Summary: Satisfying, even if the nerds don't feel the same.
Review: Yeah, that's right. A lot of people who considering themselves "X-Men" elitists will tell you this film was horrible and was nothing like the original comic book. Well, they're half-right. Some of the things, like the origin of the entire X-men story were not completely the way they were made. And customs were different, yadda yadda. Look, I'm not an expert on them, I only read a few comics and watched the original cartoon. Oh, and I read some of the Uncanny X-men...all very good stuff. So, I somewhat know what went on with all the original stuff and let me get one thing straight: All the characters in this movie were perfectly cast. I know that Rouge's character (played by the young and beautiful Anna Panquin) has been highly criticized. But what they don't realize, is that this is Rouge when she was younger...so she had not developed her normal "strong" approach and attitude. Some people just want to see all flash and bang and are quick to criticize. Read the damn comic book until you die if this doesn't satisfy you. As far as comic book movies, this one ranks right up there with the original Batman and Spider-man for greatness. Anyway, now on to the appeal for the mass audiences...

The X-Men takes places while the world is changing and recognizing humans evolving (mutating) into new creatures, per say. A lot of controversy is stirring and sides are beginning to form in the mutant world, specifically between Magneto and Professor X. They each have their team of men they aide them in their fight. It's the typical good vs. bad idea. Now, Magneto, he wants a mutant called Rouge...she possesses the ability to absorb other peoples' life-forces (and powers if they are mutants). Magento wants her so he can use her (in a way I won't reveal) to open the eyes of the human public. Professor X, along with his team of X-men, of course plan to stop Magneto. There are also many subplots involving Wolverine (his relationship with Rouge and his past) and Magneto and Professor X's relationship. With intelligent and entertaining dialogue, complex characters, the actors fluidity with each other, good fight scenes, magnificent special effects and an excellent story X-men will not disappoint.

Summary: Beams of fire from me eyes, bolts of lightning from me arse!
Review: Wa-hoo! Who wants to be a bad-arse? Just screw with your DNA and you'll get powers beyond human comprehension. Melanoma has never looked so good. Downs Syndrome, Cri-du-Chat, Fragile-X Syndrome all give you what you need to save the world (and one heck of a sexy body to boot). Or, if you are the patient type, wait out for a loss-of-function effect as Huntington's or Parkinson's. You'll definitely feel a change.

Summary: Whew! ...... what a disaster.
Review: Not only did the screenwriters butcher the accuracy of the character's origins, but they crossed the line when they distorted the character's abilities (Toad would be a great example).

Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) was great, and the rest of the casting was good. But the way each of these characters were represented was intolerable. The plot was also extremely weak for such a strong group of characters with such a great following.

Longtime X-Men fans who have waited for years to see this are no doubt disappointed. And if they're not, then they aren't really X-men fans.

Summary: Brian Singer's X Men
Review: Brian Singer's take on the classic X Men comic is a fun, action-filled film with great characters and eye-popping SFX. Director Singer, best known for The Usual Suspects, has created a film which is inventive and exciting while staying true to the comic's origins.

The main star of the film is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, a rouge mutant who joins Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart)'s team of mutants including Cyclops, Storm and Dr. Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) who are pitted against Magneto (Ian McKellen), the head honcho of bad guys with a plan to turn the world's population into mutants.

Wolverine is the main guy here, as Jackman proves to be perfect for the role of the hairy guy with some nasty claws. The star power of McKellen and Patrick Stewart gives the film it's gravitas, and the supporting cast of Tyler Mane as the imposing Sabertooth and Ray Park as Toad combine to create a great ensamble cast abbeted with a great script to work with.

Seamless CG combined with impressive live-action stunts is awesome, and the film's strong point, action, is well-paced and exciting, with a string of set-pices building up to the huge and amazing finale. The score, by Michael Kamen is a pulse-driven soundtrack that fits the film's style and tone well.

There are problems; the film does centre around Wolverine too much, making you want a bit more exposition on the other charcters and their backgrounds, and the film's running time makes the viewer want more, but hey, that's what sequels are for, and the next instalment will no doubt be worth the wait...
The DVD extras are impressive with "making of"s, deleted scenes and production material.

Summary: It's great!
Review: X-Men, like Spider-Man, has to be one of the greatest movies ever made. In the near future, humans evolve, or mutate, and attain special powers. But, because of this, un-mutated humans fear them, and thus, some mutants revolt aganist them, causing chaos with their powers. Luckily, not all mutants use their powers for revenge. They understand why the humans fear them and help them, even if the humans don't accept it. One day, a man named Logan was using his secret mutant powers to win a wrestling match at a bar. He left the bar because the humans found out about his powers, and another mutant secretly hitched a ride in the back of his pick-up truck. Well, he got ambushed, the X-Men saved him, they worked together, they beat the bad guy. Simple, no?

This movie's special effects and action sequences are amazing. It's fun to watch, even if you've seen it a million times, and the bonus features add even more watching time. Hope there's gonna be a sequel to Spidey, too.

Review: I'm a big time fan of the x-men comic so i really enjoy the movie a lot , you just can't be disapointed at all, the DVD have only one problem the wide screen restriction , we should have the option of the full screen also , it's just so anoying don't everyone have a widescreen tv at home..

Summary: Hello Wolverine!!!
Review: I watched the cartoon on tv as a kid. To see it on the big screen was awesome. The wary, suspicious, and yes yummy Wolverine makes the movie. Add in the story of Rogue, Jean Grey, Storm , and the ever evil Magnito and you have a hit! The movie really centers around Wolverine and Rogue which answers a lot of questions you might have had about the comic strip or the cartoon. What? What questions? Well, for one, why does Rogue have white streaks in her hair? Want to find out? Watch the movie! You will not regret it. Also recommended: Dungeons and Dragons.
