Summary: Another pro-American war movie
Review: Saving Private Ryan is beyond doubt a very powerful and emotional film. I enjoyed it a great deal. I was annoyed at how the German soldiers were portrayed. My grandfather fought on the German side at Normandy. It scared him as much as it did the American soldier. The pro-American slant wasnt very sympathetic to the German side I thought. The effects were good, the story well in my opinion a bit 'iffy'. The Tiger tank mock up wasnt too good - a T-34 judging by the track pattern. But hell if what I said hasnt bothered you then go ahead and buy the thing. I probally will when it comes out on dvd.

Summary: Great movie, but what's with the video tapes?
Review: The movie was superb! Almost as good as Patton without the greatness of George C. Scott, rest his soul. Special effects did carry alot of weight in this movie, but the story was good none the less. I have rented this video 3 times, and all 3 of the video tapes had problems, like, the tape breaking off after a rewind. The video store said they had 5 others that did the same thing, and this was only 2 weeks after it was released! So, my advise, be careful, the video tapes they put this on are of low quality. If you own a DVD, like me, you should wait and buy it on that format.

Summary: One of the best and emotional movies I have ever seen!!!
Review: The most action packed and realistic movie I have ever seen. This movie will show you how gruesome war really is, and what people go through. It will keep you in the edge of your seat all the way through, and change your aspect on what soldiers really go through.

Summary: Ho hum
Review: This isn't a movie about war. This is a special effects demo.

It's too bad. Spielberg is a gifted technician, but not a great moviemaker. When watching a Spielberg movie, I never get the sense that Spielberg is laying his life on the line. His movies don't touch me. Ryan is no exception.

I hope that one day Spielberg will start making movies that move me. Until then, I can only enjoy the magic of his technique.

Summary: Everything, but the smell and fear of war
Review: I saw this movie in the theater (DTS) and I also saw it on my home theater system (wide screen VHS) and I anxiously await this superb movie on DVD - DTS. This film will be a tribute to the DVD format, that will be a benchmark for others to follow. Thank you again Steven Spielberg and Universal Pictures. Few will ever know the horror of combat. This comes as close, as ever, put on film.

Summary: Don't need flashback to understand movies
Review: It's a great movie, I think american people will enjoy a lot. Under my opinion technically almost perfetc. Excellent fotography, marvellous sound... but the history is a remake from other picture from the 40's.I believe we all are enough intelligents to understand the overall situation without the two flashbacks. In the begining of the action on the beach, I don't understand where the people hides when the camera looks from the german machine gun point of view, from this point all the script is excellent and fresh until the meddle of the movie, it looks almost documental. But when the command arrives to the german machine gun nest... from this point to the end of the movie the tone of the history changes and follow the way of others greats war and adventures movies. We can see if we forget the flashbacks.

Summary: A Remarkable Film!
Review: Never before has a film caught my attention as this one did. Before viewing it, I was assuming I'd see another machine-gun cracking, bomb-exploding depiction of World War II. From the initial panning of the Czech Hedgehog and the tides rolling upon Omaha Beach, I knew this was something different. This film makes you realize how hellish war is and the obstacles we have overcome to secure our freedom. It is like nothing I have ever seen before. This is a must see for all citizens of the United States.

Summary: The second best movie ever made

Summary: I loved this movie, it's my favorite!
Review: This movie is one of my favorites. I've seen a lot of movies, but this one is best. There is a lot of blood and gore, but if you can handle that and are into WWII, you'll love this movie! It's action packed from beginning to end and has many good actors, including Tom Hanks. The characters are great, too. There are some very tense moments, and the movie makes you feel like you're on "Omaha" beach, or in a small town in France called "Vierville". The only part of the film that takes place on D-day is near the beginning on Omaha beach, so it magnifies the fighting that took place in the streets and in the fields of Normandy. A masterpiece!

Summary: Outstanding has become one of my favorites
Review: My Dad was in the 1'st infantry division, landed at Omaha Beach. He never told me much just that he was lucky he was a scout, one of the first to land on Omaha. The Germans didn't shoot at them much, they didn't want to give anything away until main force landed. He did mention that over 1,000 men dead first hour of the landing. I could tell it still bothered him and after seeing the movie I can definetly see why. Nothing someone tells you can prepare you for that. I apprecite even more what my dad and others like him did and how I hope we never forget the bravery and sacrifice they made. I also think it illustrates what my dad told told me, "There is nothing glorious about war, just pain, sorrow and waste". Saving Private Ryan could make a strong anti war movie as well as an historic tribute
