Summary: Hollywood Has Long Been Out of Ideas
Review: Let me see if I get this striaght: We're supposed to pretend that George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle (who?) are Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis Jr. Give me a break! I could barely sit through this self-serving slice of backhanded hommage. What a slick and disingenuous waste of time and money. But, this is to be expected from a Hollywood totally bereft of any new ideas. That Steven Soderburgh is being touted as some kind of "auteur" is an even sicker joke. Andy Garcia and Carl Reiner, what were you thinking?This film is my nominee for a moritorium on remakes.

Summary: A Wild Ride..
Review: There was no way, no how I was going to like this movie. How could they even think of remaking my beloved Rat Pack's Ocean's Eleven. I didnt even want to watch it at first, but my son bought it and I was looking for something I hadn't seen yet, so okay okay let's give a try.
What a ride! I really liked it! Danny Ocean played by George Clooney had a fresh new look and the story had a fresh new take. The basic idea was the same as the original, a parolee and his 11 buddies(including the likes of Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle) all with special talents that are put to use to do the unthinkable... rob 3 of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas, which by all the experts is considered virtually impossible. In this new version though, we are much more technologicaly advanced in the tools of this trade, so it's more like a comedic Mission Impossible.
All 3 Casinos they want to rob are all owned by the same man (Andy Garcia), who (Uh Oh the plot thickens here) happens to be dating Ocean's ex-wife(Julia Roberts). So did Danny Ocean engineer this elaborate heist just for the $150 million they stood to gain or did he have other motives? You decide!
The cast also includes Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck,Scott Caan, and for those who still need a touch of nostalgia we get Carl Reiner and Elliot Gould in the mix. The whole cast does a really good job of bringing their own take on these characters, and Director Steven Soderbergh(Erin Brochovich, Traffic) has given a new stylish look at this story.
The DVD was enjoyable to watch, The widescreen, the sound,(Dolbly Dig 5.1) picture, all were exceptional. The cinematography has to be seen to be appreciated. For those in need of Special Features you get some pretty good ones. Commentary from the stars and the Director, Behind the Scenes Making of the Movie,and Theatrical Trailers.
So I was debating on 3 stars or 4 ( I would've gone 3 1/2 if I could've) I went with 3 because like "Mr. Toad"s Wild Ride" at Disneyland it was alot of fun but I Probably wont go back on again right away. If you havn't seen it I suggest renting it first. It should be seen at least once though, even if you think a "remake" of this film can't be good. And by the way If you have not seen the original check it out, it stands the test of time.

Summary: Don't worry about the details
Review: This is a fun movie to watch. It's got everything...a little action, a little romance, a lot of stars, gadgets, cool cars, etc. They don't really make many movies like this anymore. Don't worry about the details and just enjoy the show. I wouldn't call this a serious movie at all...it has a sense of fun to it, and unlike too many movies, it doesn't feel like it takes itself too seriously. It felt almost like it knew it has all the cools stars and a decent story and it doesn't have to make you believe every little detail. I definitely recommend this. It's a good date movie, or rainy day movie.

Summary: Boring for the Most Part, but Somewhat Recommended
Review: My wife and I watched the George Clooney, Brad Pitt & co. remake of the classic Ocean's 11 movie last December. I enjoyed the film, but my wife fell asleep after the first five minutes. Recently, my wife purchased a DVD featuring the original Ocean's 11 movie (1960) in widescreen format, starring Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack pals: Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Peter Lawford. The plot is pretty simple to express in a single sentence: Frank Sinatra (starring as Danny Ocean, a former WWII sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division) gathers together 10 other ex-Army buddies to pull off an elaborate plan to steal millions of dollars from five big Las Vegas casinos: the Sahara, Riviera, Desert Inn, Sands, and the Flamingo. (The Sands, by the way, no longer exists on the Strip; it was demolished to make way for The Venetian.) This film is 127 minutes long, but feels much, much longer because the first half of the movie involves the rather lengthy, tedious process of introducing all 11 members of Ocean's gang. Additional cast members -- all having very small parts and speaking roles -- include Joey Bishop, Henry Silva, Richard Conte and even Norman Fell. There is also a small bit featuring Angie Dickinson (as Ocean's ex-wife), and sad-to-say, almost all this material could have been left on the cutting room floor. The movie moves way too slowly during the film's first half and I must admit that I, myself, fell asleep watching this movie the first night and had to start it again the next evening by skipping over the scenes that I remembered. The second half of the movie, which concentrated on the planning and execution of the actual heist, was much more entertaining. Also, the introduction of Cesar Romero -- who really turns in the best acting performance as the ex-con, Duke Santos, who tries to work his way into grabbing a share of the loot. What was really funny about this movie is witnessing what was considered a real act of derring-do in 1960 and comparing it to the year 2001 edition of Ocean's 11. What a world of difference! In this 1960 movie, it really looked like a pack of junior high school kids could have pulled off the heist. Security at the Las Vegas casinos was laughable. There were a couple other things that were silly about this movie. (Let's not ignore the fact that this movie was supposed to be a comedy-slash-crime caper.) Most silly, for me, is watching a bunch of middle-aged men running around like a young pack of hot shots: Frank Sinatra was about 45 years old...

I enjoyed this movie. It has nostalgic value. The jokes were corny, the acting was [sad], Dean Martin sang a song, and there was a cute twist at the end of the film. Boring for the most part, but Somewhat Recommended -- the special features on the DVD edition are helpful and almost more interesting than the movie itself. ... ...

Summary: **** SUPERIOR REMAKE ****
Review: Back in 1989 when Stephen Soderbergh triumphantly arrived on the movie scene with the multi-award winning debut movie Sex, Lies and Videotape the world seemed at his feet. Then followed 9 years of relative obscurity before the release of the excellent 'Out of Sight', starring Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney. Since then of course Mr Soderbergh's career has gone from strength to strength with critical and popular acclaim for Traffic and Erin Brockovich, not to mention the small matter of Oscar recognition. So what of 'Oceans Eleven', the star-studded remake of the 1960 Frank Sinatra/Rat Pack picture? Well, first off, when it was announced as Soderbergh's next movie, it certainly seemed like an odd choice. The original movie was after all, by all apparent accounts, (to put it kindly) not that good and it was generally felt that it had been something of a vanity project for Old Blue Eyes. Then of course details of the cast started to emerge, and what a cast it is, which includes; George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle (with a silly and pointless English accent), Elliot Gould and in a cameo appearance, world boxing champion Lennox Lewis. Surely the combination of Soderbergh, Clooney, Roberts, Pitt et al could not miss, could it? The story revolves around Danny Ocean (George Clooney), a career criminal who has just emerged from a stretch in jail (cooly wearing a blue tuxedo, of course) and his attempts to put together a crew (of eleven) to rob three Las Vegas casino's. Not only is it his aim to spirit away $80m from a seamingly impenetrable vault but all this is to be achieved whilst wooing back his ex-wife Tess (Julia Roberts) who is dating the sleazy casino owner Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia). To help in achieving this aim Danny contacts old friend Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt), and gets bank-rolled by an ex-Vegas tycoon (Elliot Gould), who has a personal grudge against Benedict. Together they form a crew including a Chinese acrobat (Shaobo Qin), and a Jewish con man (Carl Reiner). Precisely what everyone's role is in the heist and indeed the movie is not always clear and perhaps because of this Matt Damon kind of gets lost among the myriad of stars and Julia Roberts is only really required to smile and look good (which of course she does). Much of the pleasure in this movie is seeing all the plans of the heist fall into place with the odd twist and turn. It also has plenty of humour to bring a smile to your face and although this may not be the most exciting heist movie you will ever see, it is none the less everything that that the original tried and failed to be; smart, stylish and quintessentially cool.

Review: Remaking an inferior remake with big named actors is no easy task, but somehow Soderbergh et al pull it off. The movie involves scruffy George Clooney and 10 others pulling off a Mission:Impossible style heist of 3 casinos. There's really no character depth but it's entertaining as long as your mind is occupied or you're easily entertained.

Review: What can I say this film got it all. GREAT storyline, GREAT cast and most of all it's got Brad Pitt!. I'm only going say a few things about this film. When I was going to see this film I wasn't thinking it was going to be that Great at all, but I was very shocked that it was very good and really funny. It's about three man who want to rob three big casino in los Vegas but there some trouble on the way. Take my word for it and buy it or you will miss out. BUY IT!!!

Summary: Give Us Your Money & My Wife
Review: A few days before Christmas 2001, I watched the newly released Ocean's Eleven. This movie was excellent. I really enjoyed it and have watched it on multiple occasions such as a free showing at my college and at the theatre a second time around New Years'.
The movie's plot moves along very well. One of my favorite things about the movie was that it was not a two hour long flick. An hour and a half after we sat down in the theatre, we were leaving - that included the previews. The movie was fast paced.
Also, the scene with the fountains, which includes Claire de Lune in the background is absolutely breathtaking. When you see the film, you'll recognize the scene.
I would highly recommend this film. My parents even enjoyed this film.

Summary: ocean eleven spells FUN!
Review: You want something to stimulate your "intelligence" ? Then i suggest watching movies like *the shawshank redemption* or *philadelphia* and such... this movie is meant to be fun, slick and stylish; i believe it succeeds incredibly at what it aims for. that said, this is NOT a movie that insults your intelligence either. i find it stimulating enough, thank you very much. not too mention that as a light-hearted flick it is quite clever! unfortunately i have not seen the original ocean's 11, and as such i can't compare both productions. but what i do know is that i think this is a great movie, where all the characters were perfectly cast and i find the plot interesting. there are so many moments in the whole movie where you can't actually guess what is the real motives behind each of the character's behavior - only by the end of the movie we will realize the truth. i think clooney is likeable as danny ocean, the man on parole who masterminded the whole heist stunt. we can't help but want him to get both the cash and the girl. brad pitt, is as usual plays the cool, slick and inscrutable rusty - the right hand man of ocean. somehow, rusty kinda reminded me of tyler durden, pitt's character in *fight club* - eventhough i can't pinpoint what actually made it so. one thing is sure though, rusty is uber-cool... bernie mac is also hilarious as the casino dealer. i feel that many would disagree with me on this, but i don't think there was anythig exceptional about julia robert's character tess. granted, the movie is not so much about romance but about the heist so i guess it kinda fits the pattern. i can't help though but feel like her character seems under developed. andy garcia is also magnificient as the cold and distant benedict - the animosity between him and ocean is most palpable. all in all, i find this a very good movie - exceptional casting, direction and photography. although the movie itself is not perfect, i think no one can argue that it is very entertaining. with that in mind, i salute soderbergh for yet another enjoyable movie...
