Summary: Rocket-Fast, Special Effects Free-For-All!!!
Review: I bought this DVD on a whim (mostly because it was on sale). I saw much of the first Spy Kids film but found it easy to tear myself away. It was much too geared towards kids for me. What encouraged me to take a chance on "Spy Kids 2" was the some-what publicized idea that it paid tribute to Ray Harryhausen (Dynamation guru of Sinbad fame). I was pleasantly surprised, and relieved at how entertaining this film was.

Without reiterating the story/plot, here's what I liked about this DVD and why you would (wouldn't?) want to buy it.

The Film:
-Combination Spi-Tech, action fantasy.
-Acting is more than adequate. Kids are actually likeable instead of obnoxious (like many films).
-Story is a simple good vs. bad quest/race... ...with a few twists along the way.
-This film moves so fast that you might find yourself pausing to explain what is happening to younger kids. It can get a bit confusing.
-Consider the story as a scafold on which to hang endless (and very cool) special effects. This is the big payoff for this film. Don't expect to get too wrapped up in a sophisticated story.
-The creatures, of which there are many, can be a little scary at times. My 5 year old did OK though. Harryhausen fans will appreciate this stuff.
-Language allert!! I believe the "S" word makes and appearance, though it happened so fast I wasn't sure.
-The gadgets, though not very realistic, are alot of fun. The amusement park rides are especially entertaining.

-This film was made for kids first, then adults. That does not mean you won't enjoy it, just something to keep in mind.

The DVD:
-Picture and sound are excellent. Near LOTR quality.
-Nice packaging. A sleeve over a printed keep-case is more than expected.
-Enough extras for the price. Most of the deleted scenes are nothing to get excited about (though a couple are pretty cool!)
-Music video is cute. Not just a song.
-Get it on sale and you'll really feal good about buying it. I would not have bought this at full price (though many might find it worth it)

Certainly not a great film but highly entertaining. The DVD is a can't miss. If you've seen this film, the DVD won't disappoint. If you like Ray Harryhausen films, this is a fun and fitting tribute to his works of the past. Maybe rent it first.

Summary: Much Worse Than the First Film
Review: The sequel to Spy Kids is much worse than the first movie. There is no plot to the movie, the whole movie is just having the Cortez kids and the Giggle kids showing off to the OSS. The movie is very stupid. DO NOT go see this movie in theatres, I had this on my save list before I saw it but now after seeing it I am taking it off and so should you. This is a terrible movie, if you gave the first movie a 3 or below than skip this. If you gave it a 4 or 5 you might actually think it was OK. This movie is for the much younger set (10 and below.) DO NOT see this movie.

Summary: Better
Review: Well, i saw the first and cried it was so bad, but they have made many improvements. i especially liked the "Lord of the Rings", "Jason and the Argonauts", and the "Indiana Jones" parodys. they also spent more time on the plot and not the Sibling rivalry [stuff]. i actually found myself enjoying it. I laughed out loud a couple times to. this is much better than the first and i reccomend this over it. the only reason to see the first is if you, like me, are a "I gotta see um in order" kinda person.

all in all, a huge improvement. if the 3rd is as better as the second to the first, the 3rd will [be great]

Summary: Robert Rodriguez's Inspirational Film Commentary
Review: When I bought this DVD, I wasn't expecting to hear anything particularly interesting from the director on the "director's commentary" audio track. What I found was a wonderful impromtu speech on creativity, believing in yourself, and trying new things. Robert Rodriguez did almost all of the major jobs in making the movie. He wrote the script, directed, designed the sets, and wrote the musical score in addition to several other jobs. He is always asserting that people should listen to their imaginations and fill out their ideas.

In addition to this, the movie itself is wonderful. The special effects are seamless, the acting is great, and the story is fascinating. There are lots of interesting extras on the DVD that show how the movie was made and what the actors are like.

All in all, a great DVD.

Summary: Film Students Everywhere - Pay Attention to this movie!
Review: Not only is this a great and entertaining movie, but it is also a lesson on film making (hear Robert's commentary). I can't say anything bad about this movie. It was well worth my time and money. Loved it!

Summary: thegreatestmovieofalltime!
Review: I think that if you like action and adventure, this is the first movie you should get! It is a great movie for the family, and has some great special features. It has a lot of action and the spy kids have some really cool gadgets, but when they land on a island that is home to the transmoker device, none of their cool gadgets work. In this movie, Carmen and Juni have grown up, and Carmen has a super crush on a serious showoff/brat named Geri Giggles. When they both arrive at the island, they are racing to try and find the transmoker. In the end, Juni quits to OSS, so I wonder if he will be involved in Spy Kids 3 Game Over. I thought the story had a great plot and I loved it!

Summary: Better than the first!
Review: My family (including my 8-year-old daughter)loves this movie. We enjoyed it even more than the first one. It's filled with action and adventure and fantasy. Its a great family movie and fun for kids and adults!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: NO PLOT AT ALL!
Review: This movie had a poor script and in my opinion it had no feasable plot. It really needed more than Carmans crush on Gary Giggles and the fact that his father wants to take over the world. Compared to the first movie this movie was horrible. And at the end they sort of try to make Carman (Alexa Vega) into a pop star singer that really ticked me off. that is why i give it 1 star (really i don't think it deserves any). I really wouldn't suggest this movie to anyone who really enjoyed the first one.
