Summary: GREAT MOVIE-NEED TO ENHANCE A NEW VERSION OF DVD
Review: FIRST OFF I DON'T HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE HOW GOOD THIS MOVIE WAS ,CAUSE THATS A GIVEN...THIS MOVIE NEEDS TO BE DIGITALLY REMASTERED BOTH PICTURE AND SOUND,THROW IN SOME 5.1 SURROUND OR DTS FOR THE ULTIMATE VIEWING PLEASURE AND SOME SPECIAL FEATURES WOULD BE NICE LIKE COMMENTARY WITH BURT AND THE REST OF THE CAST.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Classic 70s southern car-movie
Review: This is the flick that inspired a dozen car-chase movies, as well as "The Dukes of Hazzard." Burt and Sally have a lot of chemistry, and Gleason still has a little Ralph Kramden humility in him as he haplessly chases the Bandit across the country. Fun to watch even more now because it's so dated!

No real extras on the DVD, and while Jerry Reed's soundtrack was so good it's in hopeless 2.0 mono on the DVD. At least it's widescreen--that's something it's got over the VHS version.

Summary: All-American Fun Movie
Review: Smokey and the Bandit has always been a fun movie and it now has a nostalgic feel, but it's still a blast. I think Jerry Reed is often overlooked in this film, but he and Burt Reynolds both rock. And the way Jackie Gleason talks as the sheriff gets me laughing every time. Sure it's corny humor at times, but that's part of the charm of this genuine classic.

The DVD would have been much better with some cool extras. The preview is cool because it's obviously from 1977, but a commentary track with any of the stars or the director would have closed the gap between "it's a good DVD" and "must buy." However, watching it in French is kind of funny.

Summary: Funniest Movie
Review: All people think Jim Carrey is funny, well sheriff Bouford T. Justice's son is funny stupid. He sits through-out the movie and holds his Daddie's hat on, thus looking like a fool. I never get tired of this movie, even some years later this movie still kicks behind. The Sheriff is obsessed with catching Bandit when Bandit has all the help he needs from his trucker buddies. Even if the sheriff did catch him, Bandit was out of his jurisdiction. All in all this maybe considered a redneckmovie but it is a damn good movie.

Summary: Lots of Fun
Review: I saw this movie at the theater and being in a truck-driving family, it is a lot of fun to watch.

Summary: The Redneck choice for Oscar
Review: This movie is the video equivalent of Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It is the pinnacle of Southern movies. Growing up in Georgia in the mid-70's I had friends that went to see this film 7 or 8 times at the theatre. When I turned 16 I was adamant to buy a '77 black Trans-Am with a Georgia license plate. I had to wait until I was 25 and then my wife made me sell it because she said there was no-way she was putting a child-seat in the back of it for our new-born. Oh well.

The language in the original is pretty bad and it's continuous, and the edited version was obviously done by a butcher, so I wish they would come out with a new middle-of-the-road version.

Everyone has got to see this movie at least once to experience the Southern frame of mind circa 1977.

Summary: Silly, Implausible, Irresistible - a Real Guilty Pleasure
Review: I guess this is the sort of movie that separates us less-cultured folks from the rest of y'all, but I'm not ashamed to say I love it. I don't think any single movie line has ever made me laugh so much as

"Son, there ain't no way you coulda come from my loins. When I get home, I'm gonna punch yore momma in the mouth!"

Burt, Sally, Jerry were great, and Jackie Gleason was AWESOME! The premise is pretty lame, and law-abiding citizens should be incensed that the Bandit has a 'complete lacka respect fo' auTHORity (Gleason)', but you root for him nonetheless. I know my parents used their CBs with pride (told ya I lack culture) when this movie came out. It very nearly rivaled the hit song "Convoy" for influence on the CB generation.

There honestly isn't a politically correct, socially redeeming, spiritually uplifting moment in this movie. It's tacky, barely-above-B-grade, and so testosterone-laden that no one who aspires to anything higher than belching contests should like it, but you will if you give it a chance. Fun characters, lots of low humor, stylish car chases, and a terrific soundtrack make this a wonderful movie to see. ...

Summary: This movie will always make you laugh
Review: This movie is timeless! If you ever get the blues, pop in this movie, and I guarantee, it will cheer you up. Especially if you work in Law Enforcement. It makes me laugh to think of all the things Sheriff Beuford T. Justice gets away with, like chasing the Bandit accross state lines. I wish we, as law enforccement officers, were granted as much freedom.

Summary: they don't make road movies like this anymore
Review: Like many,I grew up with this movie & it has to be the best road movie of all time, others have tried to duplicate it(Thelma&Louise,Midnight Run), but none have had the intensity that this one has, I seriously doubt a film like this would be made today, It is not very politically correct to say the least, & is dated, but hey, this was 1977, a time when Hollywood WAS NOT AFRAID TO TAKE CHANCES, Burt Reynolds & Sally Field(boy, was she hot then)had great chemistry & was cast perfectly & who could ever forget Jackie Gleason's obsession with capturing the Bandit, Jerry Reed also has great one-liners, & that TRANS-AM, man I haven't seen a car like it since, It must have been the only one of its kind, other Trans-am's had a different front-end, who didn't want to be the Bandit in 1977, the 2nd biggest film behind STAR WARS in 1977, with a real southern country feel to it, highly recommended

Summary: So what happened to the R-Rated version?
Review: I absolutly love this movie, but I can't give it 5 stars until someone digs out the "Original" R-Rated version of this classic! I remember when this movie was first released with a R rating and ran 2 hours long. After the movie took off, it was edited to 96 minutes and a PG rating so kids could see the film. At least 15 to 20 minutes of R Rated footage exist somewhere in the vaults of Universal studios. Am I the only one that wants the uncut version? I sure hope not.
