Summary: The best family viewing
Review: I took my children to see this movie when it was first released. We all loved it. When VCR's became popular I looked for the movie in all the stores but of course was never able to find it. I was glad to purchase it on line. My son watches it over and over again. My only complaint is the quality of the tape. I am hoping that it will be remastered onto DVD with a better picture quality so I can keep on enjoying it with my grandchildren.

Summary: Brings back memories...
Review: I watched this movie when I was a young man... I was deeply moved by it then, and was again moved by it when I saw it again.

My boys were very impressed, and it has become one of their favorites. They found the dry humor to be very funny (as I did both when I was younger and now). They quoted lines from it for weeks after they saw it. It was the first movie the boys wanted watch when they had friends over for a sleep over this last summer.

I enjoyed the look into a life style long since destroyed. I have always had a romantic feeling for the American Indians, and it may have started with this film.

I enjoyed the remeberances of an old man near death, and understanding his life and belief system.

The plot is engaging, the actors are surprizingly good, and the setting is breathtaking.

This one will stay one of my favorites. I hope to share it with my grandkids some day.

Summary: My number 1 Favorite movie of all time!!!!
Review: If I could rate this a 6 or even 10 I would. I saw this movie when it was released. I purchased the video...nearly wore it out. I loaned it to a friend, who never returned it, and then moved overseas...and have been desperate to find another copy ever since. I think I'll buy 2, because NOT having this movie to watch is agony. Every time I watch it, I laugh, I cry, I get angry. The only movie I ever experienced that got me so totally involved. It is a masterpiece. It takes you to a time and place that no longer exists...the real "America"...when the native people lived according to their customs and traditions and religion untainted by other cultures. Unique. Beautiful. Moving. Best natural motion picture ever made.

Summary: Deeply Spiritual and Beatifully Shown
Review: If there was ever a movie that displayed man's spiritual relationship with God, this is the movie. Chief Windwalker's daily walk with the "Great One", and the beauty of nature that surrounds him only emphasizes what God has always intended to provide to His creature. Who would ever have thought that a movie about the life of a Native American would stress the deep relationship that God has always intended for us. Additionally, to surround His image with the beauty that He has bestowed upon us only completes God's plan. Windwalker displays his braveness and courage as a great warrior, his love and tenderness as a husband and father, and at the same time, his dependence on the Great One for all His wisdom.

Summary: A "real" Native American movie with historical theme.
Review: Majority of actors are Native Americans speaking an Indian language (English subtitles.) Narrative by a deceased character is in English. Story of two tribes in conflict, of family & tribal devotion and love.

Summary: Great Big Hokum!
Review: Me see'um this movie many moons ago. Me think it silly and rather forgettable. Me scratch'um head at other reviews.

What me remember'um about movie is Big Englishman Who Play Cheyenne (Trevor Howard) leave'um family to go die in cave. While waiting for death Big Englishman Who Play Cheyenne attacked by heap big grizzly bear. Big Englishman Who Play Cheyenne kill'um bear. Big Englishman Who Play Cheyenne skins bear and then tans bearskin. He make'um very nice bearskin for warmth. Me confused. How come'um Big Englishman Who Play Cheyenne can create a nice bear skin blanket in a couple of hours when it would take heap many squaws heap many hours to do the same? Me think'um Great Spirit at work here! Ugh!

Summary: What a great movie
Review: My dad took me to see this when I was ten or eleven and it has always remained one of my favorites. I recommend this to anyone.

Summary: Lovely, but s-l-o-w
Review: Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the movie is a bit slow. At a time when the pace of life was much less hurried than it is now, I suppose it's manageable -- but I found my mind wandering and my eyes closing in spite of myself.

The cinematography is lovely, though, and the story is enchanting. A great family movie for kids, though it may require some explanation as it tends to be a bit hard to follow if your mind tends to wander...

That said, in a time when we need to be reminded of the beauty that once was, this does the trick.

Summary: Windwalker:
Review: One of the most authentic and engaging films on Native Americans you may ever see. Released in theaters around 1979, Windwalker is the story of a Cheyenne warrior and his lifelong altercations with the Crow. No cowboys or pioneers here. Strictly Indian life. Beautifully filmed drama/action/love/adverture. This film was done long before "Dances With Wolves," but is just as effective and moving. Can't reveal the actual storyline - surprise ending! Color/some subtitling when the tribes are conversing. I've waited 20 years for this film to hit video and it's worth the wait.
