Summary: Fun, Fire and Foolishness
Review: No, "Reign of Fire" is NOT a serious look into the idea of dragons coming back to rule the earth in the 21st century. What it is, is a study of two ways of dealing with a problem. First, you can ignore it, live with it, or even comprimise with it. That's what the British citizens decide as their course of action: live deep underground, and hope the horrid fire breathing beasts go away. Then there are the American National Guardsman from Kentucky, who decide take the second approach to problem solving: destroy the problem. The Guardsman discovered that the central lair of the dragon population is somewhere in London, so they commandered a C-5 transport, and brought their dragon extermination program to the UK.

Of course there is some conflict between the British and American approach to the problem at hand, and so the Yanks, the Brits and the dragons end up fighting each other.

While the dialogue is mediocre, the action rather predictable, and the special-effects not all that special, still this movie proves to be very entertaining and worth watching just for the shear fun of seeing modern men fighting dragons.

Summary: Great fun!
Review: This movie falls into the guilty pleasure category for me. The acting is over the top and many questions remained unanswered at the end; however, the dragon-effects are well done and the movie moves along quite nicely. There are other dragon movies out there (Dungeons and Dragons, in particular) that are quite droll. This one keeps you entertained. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is excellent (good use of center, rear, and sub-woofer). The colors are good, considering that you need to stay in the red tones when dealing with fire! You may need to up the brightness on your set to get full details in some scenes. Overall, fun and re-watchable. (It may, however, be too intense for younger children.)

Summary: Better title: ¿Reign of Special Effects and Little Else¿
Review: I hate to say it, but it was the flashy movie poster with tempting imagery of fire breath dragons demolishing London that drew me to this movie. Unfortunately, the first few moments told me that I wasn't going to see what I expected. In fact, the most you see of the dragons themselves are often shadows or brief glimpses. When you do see them in full view, the special effects are quite good. But I've seen much better. The story had too many plot-holes. The script was really lousy. The actors did what good they could with what they had. The best part was when they made fun of "Empire Strikes Back". For a good dragon movie see... come to think of it, no good dragon movie comes to mind.

Summary: 'REIGN OF FIRE' is a true BURN!!!
Review: I passionately agree with all the bashing this major ... has been getting. Remember those scary posters of dragons burning out London as Apache Copters do intense battle with them? Or that compelling trailer of the flying monsters destroying the world? Well, SURPRISE!, none of that is here! And thereby, hangs the ...!The opening scene where the first male dragon escapes from an underground excavation site was generating some fearsome suspense. HOWEVER, we are then shot ahead twenty years later - after everything BAD has already happened; like most of the world being incinerated by hordes of more fire-breathers, which is ineptly restricted to a (count um) ONE minute montage of old clippings you can barely read. BUMMER! THAT was the story I wanted to see. How could it have not delivered, being if it had a decent script and compelling characters. I like Bale and McConaughey, they show some real acting potential, but give them better roles in a more intriguing story that would have delivered the action, thrills and overwhelming sense of dread and terror. It's called EXCITING!!!I wanted to see those crucial attacks on civilization and the destruction of all the world's major cities. Who wouldn't? Doesn't sound too dull or insignificant. With so much justified criticisms of how most films today are overloaded with too many F/X, this is one unique case that NEEDED far more startling visuals. It's no longer the matter that "it can't be done." DO IT!!!Also, it would have been cool to have that shocking scene where the scientists finally realize that the dragons caused the dinosaur's extinction and began the ice age. That was an interesting idea by itself, but it just gets skipped over like it's 'no big deal.' How about an eerie flashback that SHOWS this 'historical' event. Too many dismal films indulge that 'much ado about nothing' notion. THIS film indulges 'little ado about everything'. Those are the wrong kind of ironies. ROF had so much potential. You could produce a whole epic of how the human race fought the dragon invasion - and eventually lost. On ROF's 'message board' are some interesting ideas of how this vast disappointment could have been solved. If interested, I suggest you check it. I know of many discerning viewers who would love to see an awesome PREQUAL that could do full justice with this strong potential. Sad to say, since this mess bombed, that great unmade movie will probably never materialize, but it still should be seriously considered. DRAG WARS could really fly. I rest my frustrated case.

Summary: Reign down on me
Review: WOW...all I have to say is wow. This movie met my expectations. Great graphics, cool storyline, awesome acting...only one reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars...NEEDED MORE DRAGON ACTION. Other than that....Reign of Fire is an awesome twist to what our future could hold if these monsters were real. What do we do? LOOK TO THE SKY! What if the sky held these creatures...and they stalked us? Hunted us? ... what if our destruction and the destruction of life around us provided them with what they needed to survive?

This movie raises great questions...plus for any STAR WARS FANS it has a cool joke in there that is a MUST see.

Summary: It's a bird...it's a plane...its...a dragon?
Review: The dragons in this movie are kind of like Superman. They can fly about three hundred miles an hour (breaking the laws of physics a few times), melt a tank with their fiery breath, and generally cause massive destruction. These dragons supposedly defeated the entire world military in a few months! How did they defeat the battleships, by the way? US warships have vulcan cannons with an auto-targeting system capable of shooting down a missile in flight. Large flying creatures, such as eagles and pteratactyles, cannot fly fast. They have to depend upon gliding to stay aloft (just like the ones portrayed in the book, Abacar the Wizard).
Anyway, the movie is entertaining. It's worth renting if you enjoy watching survival monster-type movies. I just think that they made the dragons waaaaay too powerful. Matthew McConaughey does a fantastic job playing a "tough guy" military commander in this film.

Summary: Not bad at all
Review: It's a good B-movie. Bale and Matthew give good performances. The sequence of the jumpers is amazing, one of the most creative I've ever seen!
