Summary: The best super hero movie ever made
Review: I totally disagree with the Amazon Editoral review on this movie. It is better than either Superman or Batman (both good). The brillance in this movie starts with the casting of Tobey McGuire. He gives Spiderman a human element missing from other superheroes. He is a teenager, and acts like a teenager, but by the end of the movie we see him evolve into a man. He is vulnerable, and yet has the wit to overcome his enemies.

Summary: Great movie, very original.
Review: This movie has fantastic and realistic effects and keeps the viewer gaping at the screen the whole time. This action packed movie is about a seemingly normal kid, Peter Parker (Toby Maguire) who has a big secret. He is Spiderman! This movie intensifies as Peter comes close to having his identity revealed. I can't say too much without giving away the movie, but this is definetly worth the money.

Summary: Spider Man good, but Cartoon was better.
Review: The movie was not a dissapointment but in my eyes the cartoon had a way better story. Many details are left in the dark during the movie. It has no sense of time. But the real kick in the groin was that he had natural web in the movie. In the comic book and the cartoon he had web cartridges. Making for a much better SpiderMan expierence. In the books and TV shows he would sometimes run out of the cartridges and have to think on his feet. One aspect in the movie that was better in the movie was better was how Peter Parker aquired the spider like abilities.(It goes in to more detail) Buy the movie if you liked the X-men movie. I would recommend the cartoon series on DVD though.

Summary: Love it, but I want the alternate ending
Review: Didn't Spiderman have an alternate ending on the World Trade Center? I wish that were included on a bonus disk. They didn't even _mention_ it on the commentaries. Oh well. Gotta love Toby Maguire's performance (even if the Green Goblin was lame and the plot only so-so). If it weren't for the humanity and realism that Toby brings to the movie, I'm sure I'd rate this only 1 star.

Summary: A lot of hype
Review: I don't pretend to be a fan of the spiderman comics, but I really didn't see anything special about this movie. My friend went to see it twice in two days, which in my opinion was a good waste of about $$. But this same friend spent 500.00 on CD's once. He said it was like having a record store in his room, he was finding unopened CD's for ages.
This same friend also won't see the Scooby Doo movie because he thinks that it will ruin his childhood impressions. I don't think he could do any worse seeing that movie after this one, but I haven't seen that movie yet so...
I saw Spiderman once in the theatres and I saw an overdramatized, poorly written mess. The special effects were awesome, and the whole scene with the cable car full of kids and the love of his life was dramatic and special, almost to the point of being laughable. What normal city has people jumping around high places in masks? It was done better in Batman. The whole thing with the green goblin was incredibly stupid, especially at the end where Spiderman's friend discovered the murder. Oh boy, I can't wait for the second part. Especially the end, where he decides on the importance of truth and honor. I would have done the same thing that he did, but for other reasons. Mainly, because all the characters in that movie were ridiculous and poorly written, and not worth remembering. I have to wonder what you could take away from this movie, I didn't see anything that really made you think. I mean, it must be wonderful to some day discover that your hands can stick to the walls, but who cares? So what he got bit by a spider..? Steroids do the same thing. On the plus side, the soundtrack was impressive, and like I said this movie was good eye candy.

Summary: Best movie of 2002
Review: I loved this movie because of the great special effects and awesome storyline. From the begining of the movie, you pity Peter Parker because he is treated like dirt and is bullied by the whole school bus (even the driver). After he is bitten he as a whole is changed including his body, his abilitys, and even his looks(no more glasses and even a more sophisticated look). This movie has it all action, adventure, and even a slight love story. Oh and also the most innovative kiss seen in movies. A real blockbuster, and movie you need to own.

Summary: Ponderous
Review: Great adaptation, cinematography, action sequences. Unfortunately there is way too much romantic development. I'll write more as soon as I can force myself to watch the whole thing. Very disappointing.

Summary: Solid movie and respectful adaptation
Review: This has been a favorite in my library since I got it. Not only does it treat an american pop-culture icon with the respect that it deserves, it is one of the most well balanced action-adventure movies to come out in a long time.

This is what happens when a fan gets a hold of the material and does it right. Sure there is action, but an action flick is just flash and explosion without strong characters behind it. Sam Raimi is the perfect choice for the film. His Hitchcock like style and tongue-in-cheek humor lends itself well to Spider-Man. He has never been conventional, and he doesent disappoint here either.

Tobey MacGuire is also an ideal choice as Peter Parker, Spider-Mans alter ego. The movie never lets you forget that there is a awkward teenager underneath that suit, and in order to pull that off, you need a decent actor. Yes there could have been others but I shiver to think what would happen if Freddie Prinze Jr. got the role.

Willem Defoe was also aptly cast as Norman Osbourne a.k.a. The Green Goblin. But it also brings me to the only real issue I had with the film. His costume and I am being very picky. I loved Defoe's performance and see the reasoning why that the way that they did, but I was hoping for something a little bit more organic and less high-tech.

Kirsten Dunst also does a good job as Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parkers love interest and I was surprised at the depth and maturity that went into the performance.

But the show stealers are Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben and J.K. Simmons and J. Jonah Jamison. Even the most skeptic Marvel die hards will agree that these two knocked out of the park. No matter how many times I have watched this, I always am amazed by them.

The DVD is very impressive. The favorite feature of mine is the pop up option for the movie. It's the same as "VH1's Pop-Up Videos" just done with a feature film. Very informative and funny. The is also a commentary which is okay and you can also choose to have a spider icon option than, when it shows on the lower right of the screen, you press enter and a behind the scenes vignette shows up. Very similar to "Moulin Rouge" and "X-Men 1.5." The difference being, while still distracting, these vignettes are actuall interesting to watch. There are two music videos, concept art, and an interview with Spider-Man creator Stan Lee. Not to mention a really cool short featuring Todd MacFarlane and John Romita Jr. Two legendary Spider-man artists. My wife, who is not a comics fan, was surprised how much she liked the bonus material. So for you non-believers, this is a great way to see why the wall crawler has such a widespread and loyal fan base.

All in all a really well put together film with a really well put together DVD. The only thing I would say is that parents of young kids should really heed the rating on this one. A film that you will feel compelled to watch over and over.

Summary: Tobey Maguire is forever spiderman
Review: One of the big flops of Batman is that Micheal Keaton wouldn't do the sequels. As long as they keep the same character, any new sequels can be just as good as this one!
