Summary: Spectacular Sci-Fi Flick; but not for Heinlein fans
Review: Action and special effects are impressive in this film, but fans of Robert Heinlein's original book will be disappointed. The movie loosely follows Heinlein's original futuristic story about Rico, a young man who wants adventure and to become a citizen of the Federation by serving in the Mobile Infantry. I enjoyed the movie, but too many times I kept thinking about how much better it could have been if Director Verhoven had followed Heinlein's vision more closely. It would have been much more fascinating if we could have seen the Mobile Infantry bounding in their armored Power-Suits in nine-men squad formations over a 25-mile front, wreaking havoc on their enemies with multiple weapon systems and tied together with exotic communications and navigation devices. Rather than that, we are treated to less sophisticated mob formations in the movie with some high-tech weaponry, but the tactics look more like the American Civil War. Another aspect of the movie I did not care for was the Internet-style scenes used to provide information on the story, similiar to what Verhoven more used more successfully in "Robocop." This did not work well in "Starship Troopers." Casting a bunch of young actors who look they were from the "Valley" didn't help much either. The movie is still fun to watch and provides plenty of action, but viewers should not expect too much if they're loyal to Heinlein's original story.

Summary: If there's an actor in this film could someone identify them
Review: I have never seen a major film with worse acting. Denise Richards is another Hollywood tart with no talent. The lead actor Casper Von Airhead another no talent. What is there to reccomend? Cool bugs

Summary: One of the best alien movies I've ever seen!
Review: This movie is one the best movies I've ever seen with aliens being the main topic! The visual effects of this movie are unbelievable! They are so clear and colorful on DVD! This movie should of one the 1997 Academy Award for best visual effects! This movie is full of action, a little bit of drama, and has the imagination of what the future holds for Earth!

Summary: Wow....can't believe the previous reviews
Review: I would suggest this movie to anyone. While the movie does not follow the book, it still is a great movie (none of the Heinlein books that were made into movies followed the book...look at "The Puppet Masters"). As someone in the military, I thought that while the tactics didn't follow current doctrine, the philosophy and training I could relate to. The love and self-sacrifice each soldier showed for each other is another thing that also made this movie one that was near and dear to my heart. I definantly think this movie is one that is worth buying and would suggest this movie to anyone who loves Sci-Fi or War movies (this book was actually required reading for my ROTC class when I was in college).

Summary: Can you say "special effects"?
Review: There are two basic schools of thought on Starship Troopers (the film): those who saw it for the special effects (5 stars) and those who came for the story (-5 stars). In a nutshell, these are the most oft-recurring scenes (in that order): man getting shot in the head; people making love; people getting eaten by giant insects; people destroyed by interstellar asteroids; people getting shot by insect excrement out of orbit(those bugs have awfully good aim); more dead people; people whose brains are sucked out by a "Brain Bug" (actually referred to as such in the film). The book focused on the flaws of a perfect Nazi-type society and by the end the reader almost begins hating the humans and appreciating the bugs. The film was about gore.

Summary: Absolutely abysmal
Review: Quite simply, this movie is terrible. Paul Verhoeven thinks that he is making some clever comment on fascism and the state, but no amount of subtext can redeem this movie. How this gained a 15 rating in England is beyond me, because the violence is quite horrific - I've nothing against the use of violence in film, it's just that it serves absolutely no purpose here other than to titillate teenage boys along with the naked women which Verhoeven always puts in somewhere. Van Dien is one of the worst actors that has ever graced the silver screen, and the whole exercise just feels like a cheap film which was suddenly given lots of money to play around with. Someone get Verhoeven to realise that all this nasty on-screen carnage went out in the 80s. We all know that what is implied and not shown in a film is much more effective. The commentary is horrible because it's got the director screaming in his nasal twang, the deleted scenes are boring along with the featurettes and the screen tests make you wonder what the other people were like if the people shown got hired. Thank God my friend bought this and I didn't. It went straight back to the retailer I can tell you. I can't give it no stars, so the one will have to be for Denise Richards, who's pretty awful in this too. Please, for your own health, stay away from this film.

Summary: AWFUL movie`
Review: I am a devoted science fiction fan, and, having read the book twice, I can say that this is a TERRIBLE movie. The attitude of the army is quite the opposite of the attitude of Heinlein's army. The powered armor is missing, the troops disobey orders on a whim (Which Heinlein's army NEVER would've done), and the main character's friends mostly survive to the end! Do NOT see this.

Summary: why'd the girl have to die?
Review: this movie would've had about three more stars if the girl hadn't have gotten killed! I mean, it's bad enough that there's enough violence in this movie to make Braveheart look like 'Barney', but why did the guy have to end up being lonely. And another thing, the girl died a HORRIBLE death! She had things sticking all in her and there was blood coming out of her mouth. And she was ugly and pale in her casket. The rest of the movie was stupid and unrealistic, so she could've gone down beautiful. She was a very beautiful girl. I know that it's just a movie and I shouldn't be getting all worked up about this, but it's the principle of thing, guys! Come on!

Summary: Awesome flick
Review: Mesmer from Dallas, take a chill.. This movie is a riot. There has never been a movie as good as the book. Relax. Great flick.. Gore!

Summary: Great Ride But not accurite
Review: This is a great slam-bang action thriller, but definitely has almost nothing to do with Robert Heinlein's great book.
