Summary: I might have liked it
Review: ...if I had been able to stay awake for the whole thing. I watched this movie while it was raining and I was too sick to do much else, and I tried to watch it twice, but the first time I fell asleep, and the second time I got bored and read a book instead. The visual special effects were well done, but the screenplay was so poorly written, I don't think there was much that could have saved this movie. Once the written work is badly botched, it's hard to say if the directing or acting or cinematography was poor, but it's probably a safe bet. On the other hand, you might like Marky Mark in this unbelievably miscast role. I for one am not too upset about missing the last few minutes of the film.

Summary: Amazing, Emotionally charged Drama/Adventure
Review: I found "The Perfect Storm" riveting from start to finish, and truly believable. The charecterizations were interesting in my opinion and I thought very adequate for this type of film.

There were truly great scenes out on the sea, it was very realistic, you almost feel as if you are in the boat with the crew.

I found the characters very likeable and believable, and Clooney was better than I have ever seen him. It is almost an old fashioned type of film as far as story goes.

I was very surprised by the ending and find the film a haunting one, and a must own. It was truly excellent.

Summary: A Major Dissappointment
Review: Given the level of talent involved, not to mention the best trailor of the year,I was hugely let down by a film brimming over with cliched characters, depressingly predictable plot points(despite being based on a true story) and forced, utterly unconvincing acting.Goerge Cloony has given great performances in the past, but here he's just treading water in an unforgivably underwritten character(he'd have fared better-as would the whole cast-if he'd had ignored the script and just got it directly from the great book.)Mary Elizabeth Mastrontonio,a fine ferocious firebrand,is deplorably wasted in a role that simply requires her to be hystericly concerned and deliver atrocities like this:"you're sailing right into the belly of the beast!"It doesn't even really supply any good reason for her to be so concerned. If there's one redeeming factor to all this it's,of coarse, the storm itself, and the special effects are, well, effective,if not neccesarilly convincing.Even the lavishly mounted DVD package, loaded to the brim with extras and goodies, can't save this project, another depressing example of today's movies and thier flash-over-substance tendencies.

Summary: (4.44) Execellent Movie With an Ok Start
Review: This is the story of a bunch of swordfish fishermen going out to sea to hopefully catch some fish and make some hard core money that would be enough to LIVE ON. But when they go out they fish they face all kinds of challenges from being hooked on to getting strange fish (only hints-not giving it away). The biggest one however is when they get home and learn there is a Hurricane in there way, so the crew has to choose between loosing their catch or making a run for it. The crew choose to make a run and it turn out disastriously (not giving it away). The acting is excellent by everyone especially Clooney, which kept the movie real and interesting. The plot is displayed excellently with tons of twist and turns to keep the viewer interested. The drawback that made me take some points of is that the first 20 minutes of mainly bar scenes and small talk isn't really to captiviating (with the exception of the father-son scene). But other than that, this movie is exciting, and whether ya seen it before or haven't you'll want to see it now.

Summary: edge of your seat entertainment!
Review: The Perfect Storm was excellent. I had not read the novel so did not know what to expect. It will be hard to find a film of this nature that will measure up.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Great effects, weak script !
Review: The basic premise of this film ... Some desperate fishermen set out to sea to make the last catch of the fishing season count and get caught in a stormy crossover. Can man face-up against nature's fury ? That's the subliminal question asked and the answer is overwhelmingly obvious. That's the script. The screenplay is the worst I've had to endure in a long time and the dialogue is too corny. This goes on for about an hour and a half until the effects take over. This whole movie is all about great visual and sound effects ... and ultimately save this movie from being just another forgotten flick. The sound and visual effects department deserve Oscars for their respective categories. Without them this movie is unwatchable. The cast try hard (too hard sometimes ...) to breathe life into their lifeless characters as they somehow try to rise above the rotten script. In a few scenes they do succeed. This movie is a technical marvel and meant to be watched on a DVD using a widescreen TV and Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio system. Far from being "PERFECT", this movie is the perfect showcase for your home theatre system.

Summary: I¿ve had More fun in a Torture Chamber.
Review: "The Perfect Bore" as One Clever Critic put it, this film does not reach this viewer the way it intended, to use a rather obvious pun, it drowned in a sea of Crappy-ness. It is a Total Waste of Time, Effort and Money; for the Untalented Makers and the Unfortunate Audience.

George Clooney is in "Batman" mode here as the Fish boat captain in over his head. His dialogue consists of lines like "Boy how I love the sea", but when he looks out at the water, his face is quite Loathsome. Maybe he just Regrets signing on for the film.

Mark Warlberg and John C Reilly maintain some dignity, their Performances are still overdone, but by Comparison to the others, they are Tolerable. Diane Lane Overacts Mercilessly and Mary Elisabeth Mastrantonio doesn't get enough Screen time to Impress.

Too much time is wasted building Stereotypes instead of building Characters; I've cared more about pieces of Cabbage than I did about these people. I kept wishing that we'd get to see more of the Sub-Plots, the Oil Tanker, the Yacht; The Drama here was Far more Interesting. The Special Effects are the only reason the film gets 2 stars.

Review: The Perfect Storm

Score: 60/100

Are you a complete sucker for weather porn? Do you like big waves and movies that earn huge amounts of money? If the answer to both of those questions is 'yes', then The Perfect Storm is the ideal film for you. However, if you go to a movie for storyline and Oscar-potential all-around then it maybe not be quite the movie to suit your night out. Billy Tyne (George Clooney) is a sword-fishing-boat captain out of Gloucester, highly competitive and stung by a string of poor outings. His crew is hardly back in port when he tells them he's going out again, even though it's October and the weather can turn ugly. Five join him: the young Bobby (Mark Wahlberg), newly in love; Murph (John C. Reilly), a devoted father recently divorced; Sully (William Fichtner), a guy Murph despises; Bugsy (John Hawkes), who's finally met a woman who likes him; and Alfred (Allen Payne), a quiet Jamaican. They catch little, so they sail east, with Tyne ignoring storm warnings behind him. Finally, the fish bite, but the ice machine fails. Should they head home through the storm of the century, or wait it out and lose their catch? Fearful, the women wait.

And they wait too long. The movie drags on a little too much, there are far too many cliché's in the storyline, and the first half is so ... boring. But, in the second half, things pick up and the film starts to look more promising. George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg are fine leads, but they were much better in Three Kings, while John C. Reilly couldn't top his performance in Magnolia if he tried. Wolfgang Petersen's direction is focused and plausible, but the wannabe-emotion in the script can sometimes be laughable. However, the sound is furious and the editing is stunning, so there is enough eye-canding to sustain the running time.

Overall, The Perfect Storm is a fine film. It's just not as good as Petersen promised, which is a lot more than we got. Still, it is watchable and exciting, and recommended for a stormy day, kind of like the one in this film. But, those days don't come along very often.

Summary: Wear Your Life Jacket.
Review: I was a little disappointed by this film. It stars a great ensemble cast (one of the best in recent years), tells a powerful and moving story, and contains some of the most realistic Mother Nature special effects of all time. However, the title of this film is THE PERFECT STORM and as much as you might like George Clooney or any of the other fine actors in this cast, they aren't the stars. The storm is the star. That's not bad, but it does mean that the other characters aren't going to be as fleshed out as they would be otherwise. This movie also has a wonderful and useful moral, something that is becoming more and more rare in today's movies. Not only is It a good safety message for summer play the moral also sums up the movie; the moral: wear your life jacket.

Summary: Excellent Disaster Movie
Review: This film is fantastic, especially if you are a disaster movie fan. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it even better. I have so much respect for those people risking their lives so the rest of us can enjoy seafood. Plus, the actual storm of 1991 was so powerful, a movie was needed to tell the story. I notice some people didn't like this movie--but hey, it's a DISASTER movie, and these movies usually don't draw the positive attention that boring dramas and love stories get. You will love this film if you enjoyed Deep Impact, Twister, and Dante's Peak.
