Summary: Good, not great
Review: One of the fine aspects of this film is its unpredictability, expressed without self-consciousness or artifice because the surprises are credible. Foley is a character with nuance: Although smart, he does foolish things - like robbing a bank on a whim with his own car for the getaway. The commentary is good too. Picture quality and audio are average. I give 4 stars each for the movie and the DVD.

Summary: A must-rent
Review: This movie showed up on quite a few "Best Picture" listed when it was released but I didn't really notice it much when it was out. Turns out the acclaim was well-deserved. This is a really good movie, a great date movie, something both the guys and gals can both enjoy. It's a crime story and a love story and it crackles with the usual Elmore Leonard energy.

I don't watch ER so all I've seen of George Clooney was that Batman fiasco, and I didn't know much about Jennifer Lopez besides that overplayed album, but both are excellent, playing people on opposite sides of the law who find themselves drawn irrestistably toward each other. Clooney plays Jack Foley, a bank robber who busts out of prison and abducts Karen Sisco, a U.S. Marshall who is at the jail to pick up a convict for transport. Even though it's hard to imagine Lopez playing a cop (especially with all her legal problems and the whole Grammy dress thing), she plays the part with complete self-assurance. And even though she can't stop stop thinking about Foley, she's determined to catch the guy who got the upper hand on her.

As for Clooney, he shows Foley as a man taken completely by surprise by his attraction to a woman who is his sworn enemy. He can't stay away from her, but he had no intention of going back to jail, either. The rest of the movie is how the pursuer and the pursued change places over and over, and how both characters go about their business with a great supporting cast, all the while circling each other, getting closer and closer.

A great movie, a fun movie, and I actually liked the movie ending more than the book ending. You'll have to see the movie to find out what happens. Definitely a must-rent.

Summary: The first DVD I bought
Review: When I finally got my DVD player this was the first one I bought. Why? Because not only is the film spectacular but this DVD has a host of fabulous extras that very few DVD's can match. The story and characters are all well thought out and I never felt that this film made a misstep. I never write reviews for these kinds of things but I read that one person felt that this film was unoriginal and I just had to say my piece. If anything this film is completely original. I am a film major and have been in school studying film for almost four years, trust me when I say this film is deserving of its praise and it has a lot of it.

Summary: Good writing, good acting, good DVD mastering
Review: I would have passed this movie over except that it appeared here as one of my recommendations. I read the reviews on Amazon and determined that several intelligent and creative people liked this movie so I rented it. What a treat!

The screenwriting is excellent. There is good chemistry between Clooney and Lopez. The characters are sufficiently developed so as to keep you interested. The soundtrack is intriguing and contributes interest to the movie without stealing the spotlight. I showed this to my parents and they both liked it too. My dad got a big kick out of Jennifer Lopez's character. I absolutely loved the interaction between father and daughter Sisco. Dennis Farina was a brillient piece of casting. His subtle "looks" to his daughter as she lets her feelings show are portrayed very well. This is a movie-lover's movie and stands up very well to repeated viewings.

Summary: A crime drama for women?
Review: Hollywood seems to be cranking out a lot of this sort of product lately: films with meaningless titles and pedestrian scripts, but crammed with talented actors working hard trying to make it all seem interesting. This film seems very popular with people whose acquaintance with cinema history goes back about five years; the rest of us know better, we've seen this all before.

Summary: excellent, must have
Review: The deleted scenes are fun, but no chapter search within the deleted scene area. The commentary is great, a lot of good and funny information. Of course the movie is one of the best movies ever. I have only owned a dvd player for a short time but it looks like Universal puts a lot of good extra stuff on the dvd.

Summary: Gets Better with Each Viewing
Review: The first time I watched it, I thought it was weird and boring. The second time I saw it, I noticed how clever the dialogues were (yes, some criminals are very smart), and how confident the direction was, and how the cinematography perfectly captured the mood of each scene. The third time, I noticed the great chemistry between Clooney and Lopez, and their assured star quality on the screen. An unusual hybrid of gritty crime drama and offbeat romantic comedy with complex, multi-layered facets that continue to surprise and charm.

Summary: What can I say?
Review: To be perfectly honest, I was led into watching this movie for the simple fact that George Clooney was the lead. After watching it once, I really had a hard time figuring it out. But the second time I watched it, I totally got it. If you don't pay close attention to the plot and the dialogue, then it will totally confuse you. This is one of George Clooney's best works. George needed something big after the horrible Batman & Robin flop. It's nice to see Clooney expanding his range as an actor, from pediatrician to suave bank robber. Jennifer Lopez is pretty good as well. Yet, sometimes her character seems a little fake. Just think, If you were a US Marshall, would you sleep with a bank robber on the prowl? Probably not. But it works well in this film. Clooney plays his character to the bone. George has that gruff bank robber look about him. The rest of the cast is excellent. Ving Rhames is awsome. If your a Clooney fan, or even if your not, this is a must see. Give it a chance. Bye the way, the trunk scene and the tub scene are really hot.

Summary: soderbergh has style to burn
Review: its interesting to read the bad customer reviews-that is how i felt about "get shorty". Out of Sight is a great movie helmed by a very talented director. great editorial style and performances. the disc is definitely worth the purchase. I don't get the Pulp Fiction comparisons, but this movie has a style very different. you can see the differing influences of each director in their movies.

Summary: I just don't get it!
Review: I don't know what the big deal was. I watched it twice thinking maybe I missed something. I didn't. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Too much hoopla... not enough substance.
