Summary: I love the smell of napalm in the morning
Review: Can you believe that's Robert Duvall? He's so tall in this movie. With a debut appearance from Laurence Fishburn and what I think is the best acting ever from Martin Sheen, this movie is definitely a classic. And Dennis Hopper's crazy speed-induced rambling helped me get off of drugs for good. Now I know who Voguner is.

Summary: Film masterpiece rivaling Dostoyevskian literature...
Review: Director Francis Ford Coppola has created a stunning film of massive scope and substance. The images and sountrack/score jolt the viewer through a Dantesque tour of the circles of hell. It is the weave of underlying ideas that shock and challenge. "Platoon" is probably the definitive cinematic exploration of the American combat experience in Vietnam. "Apocalypse Now!", however, employs the war (the word Nam means "soul" in Vietnamese)for an attempt at a jarringly powerful analysis of ULTIMATES. Can a good man...employ radically evil means, to achieve a good end...and remain uncorrupted (or even sane)? Coppola's answer to this question is...finally...unequivocal. Disturbing as this answer may be, it is presented with epic grandeur and tragic dimension. Sheen, Brando, the soldiers and the jungles of Nam itself provide a Dostoyevskian magnitude to a film that aspires to qualities of literary master works. Raskolnikov of Crime and Punishment and Melville's comparable Captain Ahab are readily brought to mind to the informed viewer. Having read a reliable version of the script, I more greatly appreciate what Coppola was attempting. Yet certain key scenes (Surfing under fire...American "Beach Boys" innocence destroyed in a damnable and damning war; the passage under the Do Lung bridge with men screaming from the river like lost souls )belong to the film alone. They are cinematic, epic sequences and whatever one may think of the ultimate success or failures of the film, the power of these images cannot easily be ignored or forgotten. In Apocalypse Now! Francis Ford Coppola presents the Images of a cosmic confrontation with Evil in the Heart of Darkness that potentially lurks in all men. It is an anti-heroic epic and a genuinely great film......

Summary: One of the five greatest movies ever!
Review: This is a powerful and intense movie, that relentlessly shows the pain of war and the evil of man. The making of the movie is just as insane as the movie itself. This is one of the most memorable and well thought-out movies ever. It contained everything that a truly great movie needs, powerful acting(which was helped by Sheen and Brando, and all the members of the Street Gang pt boat), amazing camera shots and colors, humor, emotion, and a killer song to almost tell the story itself, The End.

Summary: Telling the lies
Review: The person from Florida had overestimated his standard. Actually, the one who call this a low-paced one, must praised a tons of trashy films. If the one love Speilberg's War Movie, then the one must be a complete garbage. This is the movie that edited from a 50 hrs film to a 152 min one. We may miss lots of good stuff that Coppola has made, but that doesn't matter. The best point this film got was the comparison of the horrible reality (horror, insanity, and killing), and the beautiful lies that represented by the military (and what a soldier could do is to accept those, even they knew those were lies). The war wasn't about how ethic that was. That was about to complete the orders, and obey the rules. Wars weren't that heroic: they were the showcases of the darkest human nature. There were no mercy for enemies, and the enemies had noe mercy for us. So the scene that Willard shot a girl to death instead of gave her the band aid, had shown that he wanted no more lies, if the girl lived, they might be praised for saving the civilian, but what they did was a complete homocide. So the praise or rewards were lies, and the girl would live with pain of losing family, then swallowed the sorrow and lies, and thought about to revenge if she was alive. This was an example of what this film was about: lies. There were tons more in this film, but I can't write them all. This film also had marvelous cinemanography, and terrible original score (I mean that sounds terrible). The only one bad comment from me is that the scene when Chef's head was thrown on Willard's legs, that could be reduced a bit, because I think there was no need to focus on that head after Willard kicked it off his body. Also there is another thing I wish to say that Lucas might do this more entertaining, but for presenting the darkest side of human beings, Coppola would do the best.

Summary: Classic Coppola Movie
Review: This movie is well done and is true in spirit to Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness." That is, it shows the evil that can overcome men's souls. If you like Captain Willard's narration, written by Michael Herr, read Herr's book "Dispatches." The book is almost written in the same fashion. Stewart O'Nan writes, " 'Apocalypse Now' continues to mesmerize viewers not because of what is says but how it says it." This is true to a point. However, I think most audiences will grasp the larger message.

Review: Possibly the best war film of all-time. Brando, Duvall,and Sheen are simply brilliant. Sometimes goes over the top, but put simply, a perfection in film making. See it to believe it!!

Summary: An epic, a film to disturb the mind as did The Viet war.
Review: Coppola fuses images and sounds and ideas to confect a unique work. The actors, Sheen, Brando, Hopper, et al deliver gritty yet mythical (almost dream like) portrayals of their characters. The effect is of an important plot lost, and the chaos that follows. The film is packed with memorable and stunning scenes which allow the viewerinto some of the unspoken grotesque truths of the Vietnam war. Almost too vast to take in on one viewing, this film is not one for the faint hearted. It is, however a film absolutely NOT to be missed.

Review: Why must every movie critic make negative disclaimers about this movie? When I watched it, I don't I moved for almost a full minute after it concluded.

Review: THE MOVIE IS GREAT AND PROJECTING THE INSANITY OF THE WHOLE CONFLICT, FROM AIMLESS MISSIONS TO LACK OF DIRECTION FOR THE GI'S. IT IS A DARK AND DISTRUBING FILM-BUT THE VOICE OVER BY MARTIN SHEEN IS CLASSIC/AS WELL AS HIS ACTING ABILITY. COPPOLA SUCCEEDS IN PLACING THE VIEWER IN THE MIDDLE OF SENSELESS WAR WITH NO CLEAR ENEMY. MARLON BRANDO IS NOT AT HIS BEST HERE AND THE FILM IS A LITLE LONG BUT IT IS DONE SO WELL CHARLIE SHEEN WAS ASKED TO DO IT AGAIN IN THE ACADEMY AWARD WINNING PLATOON, BOTH FILMS ARE A MUST HAVE.
