Summary: Great Story with great themes and characters
Review: This film is one of the better products to come out of Hollywood in ages. Next to Saving Private Ryan, this is easily one of my top ten movies. It has many great charcters, the lead, Col. John Henry Patterson (Kilmer) and hunter Charles Remington (Douglas.) Amazingly, this movie is much more interesting than the true story, recorded in Patterson's old book The Man Eaters of Tsavo. I really liked the underlying theme: can you control your fear? Don't read this any further. Just put the damn movie in your cart right now.

Summary: Edge-of-your-seat fun!!!!
Review: This movie was so good, I had to go get the screenplay and read it and read it and read it again. I wanted to watch the video more than once. This film could have gotten nominations for as well as Kilmer and Douglas worked. They truly got the feelings behind the characters and really got to understand what true evil was. One great line from the screenplay says "They're only lions, right?"-- Patterson Remington's reply, "How can they be anything but?" A great movie with a great plot, great actors, and great characters. The special effects were great and the whole concept really makes a person think of the real things in life. You learn to cherish your life from this film. 'Cause you only got one life, respect it and love it. 'Cause once it's gone, it's gone. The story makes you think, and the actors make you believe you're really there. Wonderful job Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas! Wonderful job!!!!

Summary: Great Movie
Review: If this movie doesn't leave you with your eyes wide open and your mind racing, then check your pulse, you may already be dead. The setting, the music, the action, and the actors all contribute to the experiance of this film. It's one of those movies that you get mad because the credits a already rolling. You want it to go on. The narration is perhaps one of the best parts of this movie, you actually feel like your sitting around a camp fire listening to a ghost story from a wise old man. As I always say, go rent it, if you like it, buy it.

Summary: Can animals be Evil?
Review: You decide!! It would be interesting to actually read the book of the film to find out how much has been made up. Did the lions cave actually exist in the way that the film depicts it, and did Paterson (Val Kilmer) actually outrun a lion in full flight. However that aside we have an excellent film, gripping, and a good story.

All characters are sound, and well acted. Val Kilmer plays the lead part well, however you cannot help but wonder which hair gel was around in 1900 that could hold hair so well.

Michael Douglas plays the hunter with his usual skill.

But throughout the film I could not help but wonder why the natives did not set a controlled fire in the long grass to remove all the lions cover, would have made killing them so much easier.

See it...man versus nature..

Summary: One of the best movies I have seen!
Review: I have seen a lot of movies, but this is one of my favorites

Summary: 2 lions reek havok in a African village
Review: The Ghost and the Darkness is probably my favorite movie besides Saving Private Ryan and Enemy of the State. Val Kilmer plays a great part as a engineer who's by no means a wimp. Michael Douglas plays a cool hunter. The lions they're hunting seem almost immortal but, it's a true story, so that makes it that much cooler.

Summary: GOOD THRILLER, BUT NEEDED MORE INSIGHT INTO MAUSI CULTURE
Review: WHILE THE SUBJECT MATTER DEALT WITH MAINLY THE PROBLEM FACED BY THE LT. WITHIN THIS ACCOUNT LIES THE REAL ACCOUNT OF THE BELIEF OF THE MAUSI CULTURE. THIS DEALS WITH THE BELIEF THAT THE LIONS WERE ACTUALLY THE PHYSICAL PRESENCE OF MAUSI SPIRITS SENDING A MESSAGE TO INTRUDERS. ALTHOUGH THE STORY IS CORRECTLY PRESENTED AS A TRUE STORY, THE MOVIE DOES NOT PRESENT THE TRUE CONCEPT OF THE SPIRITUAL MESSAGE OF THE MAUSI CULTURE.

Summary: This is one movie that could have been a great one.
Review: Based on the true life adventure of Lt. Patterson in his book "The Man-eaters of Tsavo" the "Ghost and the Darkness" followed the book relatively closely, but failed to capture the power of the story. Kilmer seems illcast in the role and lacks the depth his character could have embodied. The director, Hopkins, seemed more concerned with how good Kilmer came across on camera rather than the grit of the situation he faced. Douglas was completely unnecessary and flat, even crusty, and a character with few qualities that endeared him to the viewer. I found myself breathing a sigh of relief when he finally met his demise in the jaws of one of the lions. The scene where Kilmer outruns the last of the brutes across the bridge was almost too much to stomach. No can do with a healthy lion at that range. This could have been a story with the clout of "Raiders of the Lost Ark," or "Braveheart," but generally blew it in good story telling, coming across more like the half-witted attempt to do "Lord of the Rings" back in the late '70s.
