Summary: Micheal Bay Does('nt) Do it Again!
Review: I'm a fan of Micheal Bay. I took up for him when the critics slammed Pearl Harbor (one of my favorite WWII era films). I loved the film Armegeddon. Even Texas Chainsaw Massacre's re-make had its own appeal, as far as horror films go.

The original Bad Boys was his first film, an entertaining romp which showed Bay's potential. Along comes its sequel, and- OUCH! Every bad thing that the critics have said is well, true. I hate to say it, but Bay has produced a true "Stinker."

Summary: Better the second time 'round...
Review: Back again in their second feature film together, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith deliver another tight performance as the two Miami bad boy cops Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). Director Michael bay delivers another masterpiece of action, comedy, and edge of your seat action sequences. Having the same director for this film and the first, give a depth continuity often missing in sequels.

At 147 minutes in length, this is an epic-sized action film. I suppose the only major drawback of the film is its length, which for some people is enough to speak of it as a lesser movie, but this criticism is somewhat unwarranted. The movie moves along well, and its length is only noticeable at a few points in the film.

The action sequences, in keeping with the first movie, are visually stunning, quite astonishing, and totally engrossing. The Bad Boys II goes beyond its predecessor in this respect, as expected, with even more shot-outs, car chases, and in-depth battle sequences that do not disappoint even the most jaded action-junkies amongst us. Fancy cars are back in this film as well, as Lowrey, a rich man, drives his mean-looking silver, Ferrari 550 through several intricate chase sequences that epitomize every car fanatic's best wet dream. Fancy Cadillac's, Mercedes-Benz, and Plymouth Prowlers do not miss the list either.

One of the more impressive action sequences in the movie comes in the form of a highway chase in which a band of Jamaican pirates have hi-jacked a semi-truck transporting new cars. The pirates then proceed to launch the cars off the truck in an attempt to shake their police chasers, making for a visually dazzling array of smashing cars crashing down the highway at very high speeds, demolishing everything in their path. These big-budget visual effects and hilarious interludes between the main characters keep the film moving along nicely.

Action aside, the true magic of the film lies not within in its violence, but within the chemistry of the two main actors. Lawrence and Smith play old friends in a fragile relationship, swaying between extremes of close kinship and periods of punctuated rivalry with effortless fluidity. The film's opening sequences prognosticate bad things to come and rough waters ahead for this special duo, and their story plays out well, keeping us laughing all the way, sympathetic to each bump in their relationship's rocky road.

Villains are not in short supply either, as Russian mob bosses and the penultimate scoundrel, Joni Tapi, face off for control and distribution of an enormous supply of illegal drugs from Amsterdam. Tapi is a violently disturbed Cuba drug-lord, who is humorous and unflinchingly cruel as he vies for total control over his drug markets in Miami.

The films basic plot is as follows. Hundreds of millions of dollars in illegal drugs have made their way into the US through an intricate network of KKK drug mules, high-speed boats, and secret coffins. Burnett and Lowrey are charged to stop this flow of illegal drugs anyway they can. Tapi, a Cuban kingpin, has contracted Russian mob bosses to distribute his drugs through their Florida nightclubs to a waiting populace. While the two detectives try to uncover the clues, they run into Burnett's sister, the beautiful Syd, who is working on bringing down Tapi through her undercover work with the DEA. Marcus also discovers Mike has been secretly dating his sister, and their personal problems mushroom. The three heroes must discover what Tapi is planning for the drugs and his money, before it kills them, while they try to keep from killing each other in the process.

While the film's length is somewhat daunting, it hardly detracts from the movie's overall appeal. Action-junkies, car-lovers, and those up for a good time, will love this movie. Bad Boys II, while heavy on the action and car chases, does not exclusively rely on such things to carry the film. Marcus and Mike's quarrels, epiphanies, and understandings are aspects of any long-term friendship that most people can value. Bad Boys II is one of the first films in a long time that I have laughed out loud all the way through.

Summary: Humor = 0% , Action = 100%
Review: Micheal Bay doesn't know "funny" anymore. His works after The first Bad Boys were all serious movies, which obviously killed his sense of humor. The first Bad boys, is considered by many, the KING of Comedy Buddy Cop Action Movies, but this one is nothing compared to it. The jokes are all dry, i watched it with my friends, and throughout the entire movie, not even once we laughed..seriously. We've grown tired of "you shot my a--" jokes, and some were just plain wrong, like talking about their "mother's breasts?", it makes u wonder if ur supposed to laugh or get disgusted. And i keep asking myself, didn't Willsmith and Martin (The 2 funniest black americans IMO) realise from the script that these jokes just plain suck? I mean they know what "Funny" is, how come they've never realised that??

When it comes to action, this is were the movie excels, and ofcourse what u'd expect from Micheal bay and Jerry B(who i respect very much and consider the #1 producer). Lots of eye candy explosions, daring stunts, car chases(best part), gun fights and some really cool camera angles and tricks.

My reccomendation for this movie would be, ONLY if ur a fan of the first Bad Boys, its worth a purchase for the sake of "Collection". If u've never watched "Bad boys" before, then steer clear, just rent it, the action alone is worth a one time viewing.

Summary: The Evil One has outdone himself this time!
Review: Before I begin this brief review of 'Bad Boys II', allow me inform you that I am not a prude. I love exploitation films. I love sex and violence. But this movie simply crossed the line. Forget Hershell Gordon Lewis - he was Walt Disney in comparison. Forget all of the grande guignol Italian horror directors of the '70s - their zombie and cannibal movies are like the Teletubbies compared to Michael Bay's latest monsterpiece. Hell, even forget the collected works of Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and Tom Green.

This movie.

This movie. This movie.

This movie will go down in my long years of extensive movie watching as the crassest, most offensive, most bloodthirsty, most repulsive film ever made. Not since the release of the actual () Holocaust footage have I seen so much mindless destruction and heartless killing on screen, fuelled by endless supplies of unbridled hate. Never have two supposed `heroes' caused so much collateral damage for so little reason. The film's supposed `gags' consist of nothing but homophobia, necrophilia, corpse mutilation and seriously offensive ethnic slurs, the punch lines usually resulting in more impersonal unnecessary killing, filmed in that pornographically violent style we've come to expect from Bay. This is violence without consequence - most of the time the movie doesn't even address it (such as the scene where a Hummer crushes dozens of shanties and their inhabitants).

And you know what? It wouldn't even bug me that much if the film had any halfway decent action scenes. Zilch. Bay's direction can only be described as incompetent to the very extreme. I had little idea of what was going on during the film's countless chase scenes, or why they were necessary.

This movie has officially surpassed 'Pearl Harbor', 'Attack of the Clones,' 'Batman and Robin' and 'Freddy Got Fingered' on my list of worst movies of all time. Congratulations, Michael Bay. After 'Pearl' I didn't think it could get any worse, but you've outdone yourself this time.

Summary: Kick ass
Review: This movie was so cool. Very little plot, but still good. Laugh-out-load funny and action packed. It's basicly one car chase after another, one explotion after another , one shoot out after another, and so forth. Martin Lawence is extrumely funny, especialy when he meets his duaghter's date, Reggie. So, if you are not in the mood for somthing heavy, order a pizza, have some friends over and watch Bad Boys 2.

Summary: Whatcha Gonna Do?
Review: Well, when a movie staring Will Smith makes it big at the box office, chances are, you're gonna see a sequel. And, nearly ten years after the original Bad Boys made Will Smith an action star, Smith, Martin Lawrence, and director Micheal Bay team up again to bring Bad Boys II. The first was a breath of fresh air into the buddy cop genre, and a hoot and half thanks to Smith's and Lawrence's on-screen chemistry. The second one, while being somewhat overblown (it's Micheal Bay; what do you expect?), it still fun, in the same way, and it never feels too tired.

Bad Boys II showcases a plot that is just as ludicrous as it's predecessor's, but that doesn't matter. It's not the story of a drug dealer smuggling coke in dead bodies that make the audience sit through the next 139 minutes, but the fact that we know what to expect from Micheal Bay. Bay's movies aren't about plot or reality; they're about spectacle with a shot of adrenaline and a dash of the funny. Sure, it's unrealistic, but where's the fun in a realistic action movie?

Mike (Smith) and Marcus (Lawrence), now partners for fourteen years, are getting older. No, they're not "too old for this ****" but they're starting to feel tired. Marcus is taking anger management classes, which provides some great laughs, and Mike is dating Marcus's sister, only, Marcus doesn't know. The character clashing isn't quite as good as it was in the first film where they were forced to switch identities, but it's still some solid character to build the action around. And boy, does this movie have action.

Bay has a style about his movies, love it or hate it, but it makes for some exciting chases and some hectic gunfights. Bullets zing along with the kind of banter you'd expect from the characters, only, thanks to age and experience, their tensions have changed. You get the feeling that there could be real problems with this pair, which makes you want to sit through some of the more yawny bits (Oh look! It's another Drug Lord adversary!), and watch the characters all the way to the end of the film. And this pays off, especially when, about three-fourths of the way through the film, Marcus's sister gets kidnapped, and things get personal.

In Bad Boys II, it's nice to see that there's still a few films that aren't going to hang back when it comes to some old-fashioned pyrotechnics. The original Bad Boys was a case study in entertaining popcorn films, and the second is no different. It's not as fresh (c'mon, it's been ten years), but it's still fun to watch these cops do their thing. Hang on, 'cause the Bad Boys are back. Watcha gonna do?

Summary: Bad Boys II
Review: Bad Boys II

Movie: 3 Stars
DVD: 4.5 Stars

Bad Boys II is an outstanding summer flick. The key phrase is SUMMER FLICK. Hence, the three star rating for entertainment. This movie is essentially a montage of over-the-top action sequences peppered with some doses of humor from Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. If you are interested in seeing major action and eye candy with no concern for a plot, this is your movie. However, if you do not have a great capacity for suspension of disbelief, please avoid this movie.

With these caveats in mind, Bad Boys II is essentially about Lawrence and Smith returning as Miami renegade cops Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey chasing drug runners in the local area. Complications ensue when Marcus' sister Sydney (Gabrielle Union) is working undercover for the DEA on the same case as the dynamic duo. Mike and Sydney are also carrying a discreet relationship under Marcus' nose. These three characters do the unthinkable, escape the impossible, and achieve their objective without a problem.

This movie is a great starting point for music video directors because it was directed by former music video director Michael Bay. Bay is an expert of providing unique camera angles and stylistic flourishes to liven up action scenes. In essence, style without substance. The pacing of the movie is pedal-to-the-metal but the movie does some hard braking in between. The Rock (1996) represents Bay's best balance of style, substance, and pacing. Lawrence and Smith have good chemistry together, essentially to the buddy action/comedy genre, but the overabundance of action tends to drain from their scenes. It does not help when a scene with Lawrence hopped up on a designer drug seems to have been put in there for filler. Some sequences tend to have this effect, but it is a SUMMER FLICK. The first Bad Boys focused a little bit more on their relationship and character. It also was a modestly budgeted film with a better sense of pace and rhythm. This sequel obviously has a bigger budget, and Bay overindulges himself and the viewer to the max. The movie runs at almost 2.5 hours, and it definitely feels about 40 minutes overlong, but for that pure action fan, it's worth your time. The DVD is a 2-disc set. The first is the movie and the second is chock full of extras as is typical of Bay/Jerry Bruckheimer productions.

Summary: What a CLASSIC action movie
Review: I've been to the movies over the years, and I NEVER had a better time (and probably never will again) than what I had when I went to see Bad Boys 2. I went with my girlfriend, and she knew that I enjoyed it. When I left the theater, the first thing I said was, "when is this DVD coming out?" On 12/9/03, I purchased this when it first came out and it was a CLASSIC. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return to take down a Cuban druglord smuggling all kinds of ecstacy into Miami. Many people said this movie has TOO MUCH action and it's TOO LONG. Nonsense. Overall, this is one hell a sequel that surpasses the original. I strongly recommend this DVD to anyone that loves action movies. You WILL NOT be disappointed. Will there be a Bad Boys 3?? I hope so.

Summary: Great entertainment....not so good DVD
Review: I enjoyed Bad Boys II. I watch movies for entertainment & comedies especially to laugh...& I did. I'm a fan of both Will Smith & Martin Lawrence & I'll watch most anything they're in. This movie was "sexier" than the first one [the guys looked hot!] & it surely has lots of male fantasy....things blowing up & shooting everywhere. That got a little old for me, but Smith & Lawerence kept me entertained with their chemistry. I bought the DVD & was disappointed not to find the director commentary. They do give some behind the scenes footage [like MTV making the video] but it's not the same. I love to hear the director talk about the particulars of a scene as I'm watching...it makes for great discussion. I probably wouldn't have purchased the DVD had I known there wasn't any director commentary like the first one. It's still an entertaining movie, but not as much as I hoped.

Summary: More godawful than the first
Review: I remember watching the first bad boys a month or so ago and detesting it. When my friend was bugging me to watch this one I told him that, but he insisted that I'd like this one, and he was extremely wrong. This movie is needlessly long (2 and a half hours, at least bad boys 1 knew when to end), has a sickening amount of violence, and dirty jokes that are not funny, just disgusting, (I felt like gagging in a scene where you saw 2 rats having sex). The action scenes are well-filmed, but they're senseless and drag on and on, along with other pointless scenes from the movie). And I don't think the amount of lives these terrible officers saved by bringing down these ecstasy dealers can equal all the innocent civilians they killed in the process. People bash Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" for being too violent. That violence is realistic and authentic and it actually happened. If you want to criticize a movie for violence, attack this crap.
