Summary: How can you go wrong with 5 bucks? Well, you can...
Review: This wonderful movie is absolutely destroyed in a non-letterbox format, and is MPEG compressed SOOOOO highly that any motion whatsoever is like looking at a chessboard.

I recall one place where a brit swings at a zulu, and the motion of his arm sweeping across the screen makes the fighting masses in the background turn into what looks like a multicolored crossword puzzle for a second or two. Looks like DirectTV on a stormy day.

Honestly, not even worth 5 bucks. I just wish there was a review up here when I looked. I paid 10 at a store... Wait for a better version. Hey, the tape looks better.

Summary: Outstanding true story.
Review: This story concerns the battle of Rourke's Drift during which a company of British soldiers, derelicts, and misfits held off five thousand Zulu warriors in South Africa. The movie was filmed on location at the exact spot where the incident took place. Real Zulus were used in the cast which includes Stanley Baker as an Engineer officer and introducing Michael Caine as a upper-crust British officer/gentleman. The film depicts how this band of men held out for three days against incredible odds, after a much larger force had been massacred at Isanlawada. Brilliantly acted, by a cast of well known British journeyman actors the action is non-stop. Recommended as one of the best war movies ever made.

Summary: Magnificent Depiction of Courage in Battle
Review: For those of us who have never experienced the sting of battle Zulu is a wake up call. Soldiers do not choose their battles, this is left to rulers, politicians and generals. Zulu depicts the common man rising to the defence of his brothers in arms to survive insurmountable odds and defeat an enemy not of his choosing. It is a testament to individual courage.

Summary: The Welsh who stood their ground
Review: Makes me proud to be Welsh when this story is known to all, especially in this brilliant film. A film that shows that anyone can defeat anyone, even when there are obstacles in the way and that the Welsh will stand their ground.

Summary: Just terrific!
Review: Great action & great performances! The story of how a little over 100 men successfully defended a hastily re-enforced farmhouse & kraal, for a whole night, against some 4,000 Zulu warriors, is well known. This was Michael Caine's first movie & such a fine commencement to a wonderful career, must have made it difficult for him to improve on his maiden performance. His role of an inexperienced, unsure, upper-class young British officer is brilliantly under-played. Whilst an essentially unlikeable character, Caine makes the audience warm to him. His dislike of Chard (Stanley Baker) is slowly replaced by a grudging respect & the interplay between the two actors is a great study. Epic scale action that would be difficult to beat, plus fine parts played by those in the smaller roles. Worthy of particular mention is the wonderful character of the cucumber-cool Colour-Sargeant Major. If you only ever see one action movie, make it this one!

Review: Magnificant when made, magnificant now. A must see. It hasn't been done better than this!

Summary: UNQUESTIONABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT
Review: ...film I've ever seen, and watching it is a regular event (even though I know it backwards and forwards by now). Which is better, action or script? They go hand in hand, and everyone plays his part beautifully. Courage is a virtue, after all--and not least because it's the best way to survive. The film shows the triumph of a group of men who triumph because, even in the most extreme situation, they remember who they are and draw strength from it. They are rigorous fighters, but they have decent hearts that remain unbrutalized by warfare. This is a moving depiction of one of the heights to which humans can rise, even though war itself is usually deplored.

Summary: shooting party
Review: I've seen thse movie which became a bit boring after 30 min. It's a simple story of British who are defending a small fort against a big force of zulu warriors. The only thing which you see is massacre. It was quiet easy for the British to defead these warriors who were only equiped with spears and shields. You see British soldiers shooting and Zulus falling. So that's it : one big shooting party. The film glorifices the dominant British army which was in fact the agressor. It 's a good thing for history that big zulu impi (army) defeated the british at Isandlewana, which was the prequel of this massacre.

Summary: Excellent film - historically accurate!
Review: This is one of the best films of its genre to come along in many a time. Well-produced, with very fine performances by Stanley Baker and Michael Caine in particular. It presents the defence of Rorke's Drift by a small detachment of British soldiers in a most historically accurate manner. An excellent addition to anyone's video collection. (Viewers might find it interesting to know that no less than eleven of the defenders, including the "slacker" Henry Hook, were recipients of the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest award "for conspicuous bravery ... in the presence of the enemy").
