Summary: Entertaining...to a point
Review: Now a days, people have come to expect alot from a movie based off a popular comic book. "LXG" is a letdown. While it does have its share of very well done action sequences its will leave some people frowning. Loyal fans of the comic will want to approach with extreme caution.

Summary: Get over it! It's a comic book!
Review: When people have talked about this movie, I have heard them talk about it seriously. The idea that such a concept could be taken seriously is amazing to me. Any union of such characters is the ultimate fantsy. Perhaps, it was the embarassment of not having actually read the literature in which the characters existed that caused such comments. I shall order the DVD when it comes out, and I shall pause the picture to explore the backgrounds which contain "hidden" features from the books. It's fun, folks, just fun.

Summary: Six Characters in Search of a Movie
Review: I suppose that the best part of the movie - that is, the characters - cannot be to the filmmakers' credit. After all, the seven (Allan Quatermain, Mina Harker, Tom Sawyer, Jekyll/Hyde, Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, and the incomparable Dorian Gray) intriuging masterpieces of Victorian literature come from such brilliant authors as Oscar Wilde and Bram Stoker. However, the part of the movie that rivalled even the characters coming to life was seeing the characters interact with each other....a giant crossover fanfiction of Victorian literature. As each character finds his niche in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, it corresponds to his literary predecessor. Dorian Gray certainly would be the seductive fop interested only in his own gain, whereas the American Tom Sawyer would be blunt and naive. The acting was great all around, with special nods to Connery, Peta Wilson, and Stuart Townsend, who has transformed himself from the awful train-wreck that was "Queen of the Damned" into an elegant and yet totally comfortable actor - reminiscent a younger Johnny Depp. My one complaint was Tom Sawyer's inclusion in the movie: with his American accent and frankness that so contrasted with the others' elan, he made himself into an extremely irritating character. In addition to this, there were numerous subtle homages of various other 19th century characters, from the villain's name revealed to be "Moriarty" (Sherlock Holmes's archnemesis) to Connery's "how operatic" upon hearing of the villain: The Phantom.That said, the plot was a total mess. Granted, it was no worse or more cliche than any other comic-book-to-movie film, but it was still pure contrivance. One gets the sense that the channeled spirits of the Victorian characters are sitting in front of a CGI screen and ignoring the plot altogether for its sheer stupidity. The cinematography was pleasantly dark, but the fighting scenes were far too choppy and edit-happy to make for an enjoyable view. But even with all its flaws, "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" redeems them by the league of said gentlemen itself.

Summary: Thoroughly Ordinary
Review: The makers of "LXG", as it was illiterately referred to in its advertisements (I think they should have gone with "LEG", myself), have accomplished the impossible: they've made a complete stinker of a film out of a comic that seemed eminently suited to on-screen adaptation. Alan Moore's original graphic novel is a cinematic, action-packed adventure bursting at the seams with thrilling exploits and stunning set-pieces, and best of all it never has to sacrifice its intelligence to be entertaining. This execrable movie, on the other hand, operates under the assumption that its audience is composed of drooling morons. I now consider the screenwriter responsible my personal enemy. (His name is James Dale Robinson! Find him and harass him!) The first hour or so of the movie is spent explaining all the characters' origins in an aggressively unsubtle fashion. Things don't get any better when the plot kicks into gear. Alan Moore's fun and literate story has been butchered beyond all recognition and replaced with something stale, formulaic, and lifeless. And what on earth is Tom Sawyer doing in the league? How the hell has he become a secret agent? The fact that the movie bears no resemblance at all to the graphic novel wouldn't have especially bothered me if it had at least succeeded as a brainless action movie. X2 and Matrix Reloaded were both enjoyable despite their plots not making much sense (and despite Keanu Reeves' outfit looking like a dress), because they both boasted some kick-ass action scenes. In League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the relentlessly choppy camerawork makes the fight scenes impossible to follow. Possibly this was done to try and disguise the dreadful CGI effects. Additionally, the movie is riddled with errors and anachronisms. The Nautilus keeps changing size, "Quatermain" is spelled and pronounced wrong throughout the movie, though not in the credits, and yeah, I'm sure everyone said "whoa" in 1899 (to their horses, maybe). The only nice thing I have to say about this movie is that the production design was pretty cool. Bottom line: don't waste your time or money.

Review: Despite alll the bad reviews I've read and knowledge of poor US box office receipts, I still decided to take a look at LXG. I did so because I liked the premise and I liked what I saw in it's trailer. To be honest, I wasn't disappointed by what I saw. I saw adventure, action, SFX, vibrant characters, and a vast story/plot. My analysis on why I wasn't disappointed is the fact that I haven't read the comic book. Anyway, to those who haven't seen the movie, please give it a chance and there may be a possibility for a sequel.

Summary: Extraordinary Woman
Review: Great performances! These amazing actors sooo got into their roles. I very much enjoyed the performance by the actress who played Mina Harker. She had witty lines and all the "X-Men" quickly came to recognize her contribution to their quest. This group of actors delivered their quick-paced dialog with great comic timing. I do hope they make another LXG movie!

Summary: a$$ kicker movie
Review: wow, this movie rocks. i dont know why critics didnt like it. it was fun all the way. By the way , many people failed to understand that captain Nemo and his army is composed of Indians (people of India) and not Arabs (people from Middle East).So captain Nemo is an Indian and not an Arab. There is not any oscar-worthy performance. Movie is fun all the way. One of the better action films of 2003. Better than T3 and The Hulk, which are over rated movies anyway.

Summary: Fake... very fake...
Review: Perhaps I would appreciate this movie more if I had read the comic beforehand ... I didn't, I read reviews of this movie instead. I came in without expecting much, and in return I didn't receive much. All of the special effects in this film seemed to scream "fake." The storyline did not excite me one bit... I kept thinking to myself "is it over yet?" I will say this, for such a pitiful role, Sean Connery did add a bit of redeeming quality to the film.

Summary: An all-out special effects action movie!
Review: Before seeing this movie I heard that the critics didn't like it and it was nothing special. I couldn't disagree more. I've seen both X-men movies and I thought the LXG blew them away. LXG never gets boring, from the start its fast-paced with different action scenes and it keeps you interested. I didn't know much about all the diverse characters, and the movie doesn't explain much about them, but oh well. Movies are entertainment and this is one of the most fun and entertaining movies I have ever seen, and I've seen plenty of movies. The director Stephen Norrington does a decent job compared to Blade. I agree with some of the critics how the action scenes are quick and jerky, but its different and it doesn't ruin the movie. There's plenty of special effects here that are done well. So if your looking to see an exciting movie check this one out.

Review: A group of characters taken from classic novels band together to from a covert team of super heroes. Not exactly true to the comic book but still a watchable piece of entertainment where the plot and what made the comic popular is ditched for big explosions and some damn fine action scenes. It's not X-Men but its hell of a lot better than some other comic book films.
