Summary: One of my favorite movies of all time!
Review: This movie is the greatest when it comes to showcasing martial arts. Mark Dacascos may not be the greatest actor in the world, however he does understand the arts and does a fabulous job doing it. The plot is upbeat and has a wholesome story line and catchy dialogue that is sure to be repeated in the home. If you repect martial arts, this movie is for you.

Summary: OK movie that didnt touch the start of capoeira
Review: This movie is a good movie to introduce someone to Capoeira but its not a good movie about Capoeira. For starters how come the cousin of the bad guy was so wimpy? if my cousin knew how to play Capoeira then I would know how to as well. If they both were from Brazil then so were their parents and if one knew how to play the other would as well. Capoeira is more then just flipping around and playing the Berimbau-Ago-go and Atabque its about playing like the African-Brazilian Slaves that was forced to play this beautiful game. If u like the movie then start to look up Capoeira. Viva Capoeira, Camara' Bola Oito....AkA jay

Summary: Elegant Martial Art! BETTER than any Asian form!
Review: The action sequences in this film were unlike I have ever seen. Those Brazilian martial arts and their ability to flip their bodies beautifully andartfully in the air is unsurpassed in other *typical* martial arts films, (Chan movies, etc.). The only thing I thought was odd about the story, was Orlando Olivera's cousin Silverio. He was the main drug lord and gang boss, who crossed swords with Stevens (Dacascos). What are the odds that Silverio would know the same martial art as Stevens? In addition, why didn't Orlando, Silverio's cousin and troubled student, tell Stevens that his cousin knew Capeiora also?! I mean, wouldnt' Orlando rather learn from his cousin first? Hmmm, seems kind of strange. Nicely done and executed!

Summary: Better watch this in slow motion!
Review: This movie was by far one of the best martial arts films ever. Even in the first few minutes of the movie I could feel the urge to go out and try these moves for myself. The music is awesom! You may need to slow your VCR down so you can take in all the action in the fighting sequences. This movie introduced me to Capoeira and I am now a student under Mestre Almira. Axe!

Summary: on DVD?
Review: This is an excellent introduction to capoeira. The story is cliche but the action is excellent and beautiful to watch. When does it arrive on DVD?

Summary: Great flick if you like the art in Martial Arts.
Review: While the story is a bit staid, and the acting just so-so, the bad-guy characters are nevertheless well portrayed. The best reason (but a very good one nonetheless) to see this is for the pure art of Capoeira. The music is realistic (though I've never actually been in the jungles of Brazil). The best scene is at the opening of the movie when the main character is still in Brazil, practicing with his teachers.

Summary: Taming the "beasts"... more than only Martial Arts.
Review: First of all I'd like to comment that this movie of Dacascos has incredible Fighting scenes again. The Fighting style Capoeira is just "super dooper incredible". As I've already mentioned in Drive I like his""flying screw driver" move. But there's another aspect that I liked regarding this movie: Only the Strong is more than just a simple Martial Arts movie. It has some kinda message , too. It teaches us that Martial Arts are more than being powerful and defeating your opponent. For,if you think that Martial Arts is just for trying to be the best fighter you could easliy end up as a brutal killer. Back to the movie, I like Dacascos's methods to get the students around, giving them hope , confidence, respect and most important of all "something that they can strive for". I don't say that this method is the best way to convince tough guys, and I don't say that it is that easy as it looks like in the movie. But it would be one possibility to get violent kids around. And I as former Taekwondo student back in Germany (Germany is my home country, I'm here for Internationl school) demand to show more movies like that or even to try a methods like that in reality.(That's why the title "Taming the beasts") A very awesome Martial Arts movie!!!!!

Summary: I love this movie!!
Review: I first saw this movie in 1994. I loved it then and have been trying to find it since. No one carried it (to obscure). Thanks to Amazon.com for re-releasing it on video. I still love this movie and will be eagerly awaiting it's arrival! The fight scenes are poetry in motion! Beautiful!

Summary: PHAT!!!!!!!
Review: This movie was cool because of all the flips and artistic style of the art. I got hooked into Capoeira because of this movie. You can learn alot from movies sometimes. Only the Strong is the only movie I watch, because it is PHAT!!!!

Summary: Awesome!!
Review: Being a big fan of Mark Dacascos from watching him in the series "The Crow: STH", I wanted to see more of his work (other than "Double Dragon" which was a bit cheesy). Mark is excellent. The form of martial arts, Capoeria, that is used in the movie is refreshing with the overload of Chan style movies out there. Its a beautiful martial arts, and has my son practicing it daily since watching the movie! I highly recommend this for the Mark Dacascos fan, or just a fan of action movies.
