Summary: Better than "Mars Attacks!"
Review: I've never been able to get over the perfection of the Martain rovers in this movie. Beautiful!

Of course, we can all see the wires used to hold them up, but who cares?!

The sounds effects, the visuals, everything is fantastic. The only sore point for me was the constant uselessness of the girl. The continual whining and screaming really got on my nerves. Kind of like Ewoks... I found myself cheering for the Empire when the stormtroopers would blast the little guys! I was hoping a Martian Death Ray would get her, but no luck.

A wonderful sci-fier for Saturday afternoons!

Summary: SHOCKINGLY PRISTINE VIDEO QUALITY BUT NOT IN STEREO!?
Review: This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time. The video transfer is faultless and in a side by side comparison with the laser disc the DVD version just smokes it. However the laser disc version is in stereo while the DVD version is only in mono. What gives? This is why the movie itself gets five stars but the DVD only four stars. Hello Paramount! Get your act together! You were late to get on the DVD train do to your DIVX money lust, dont blow it by trying to play catch up. Dont release a bunch of half-ass speedy dubs.

Summary: 1.37:1 is the original aspect ratio for this movie !!!!!!!!!
Review: To the first reviewer who said he was disappointed that the DVD is not widescreen: This movie was NOT shot in widescreen format at all! As with "The Wizard of Oz" and "Gone With the Wind", this movie was shot originally with academy ratio 1.37:1. The DVD has the correct original aspect ratio. I am 100% widescreen advocate but It's sad to see some people get too obsessed with widescreen that they don't realize some movies were not shot in widescreen format at all.

Summary: Great, execpt no WIDE SCREEN version
Review: Five star movie, but only a three star DVD. This movie gave me nightmares when I was 5 and I have loved it ever since!! My only complaint is that the DVD is the old pan'n'scan and not the widescreen!! Plus, there isn't anything else but the movie and it's trailer on the disc. Yeah, I know it's an old movie, but someone could have put together something to help fill-out the DVD. I still can't figure out why they didn't release it in Widescreen. (Unless they plan to release it later on so that fools like myself will buy it a second time!!)

Summary: one of the best sci-fi films of all time
Review: I was delighted to find this classic sci-fi film available on DVD. In fact the DVD quality is so good that you can actually see the wires suspending the Martian machines! But that is only a minor distraction to an otherwise fun film.

Summary: WITHOUT DOUGHT, THE BEST SCI FI MOVIE EVER MADE
Review: I HAVE SERCHED HIGH AND LOW FOR THIS MOVIE FOR YEARS. IN MY MIND THE BEST SCI FI MOVIE EVER MADE, INCLUDING TODAYS

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Top-rate adaptation of H.G. Well's novel
Review: Without the paranoia typical of this period, this classical adventure on the theme of the alien invasion is remarkable by its special effects (the streamlined swan shape alien vehicle). Bonus for this DVD edition : an excellent remasterisation with a perfect balance of colours and almost no artefact (except two large shots of crowd in the hills of LA)

Summary: By far the greatest sci-fi flick I've seen.
Review: ID4 tried to duplicate the awesome power of this classic but failed. However, this is the film I immediately fell in love with after seeing it one night on TV in March of 1990. I bought it that summer after months of fruitless searching. Words cannot express the emotion I get when I see this classic. I know there's a black and white version out there somewhere from England and if anyone out there can tell me where I can find it on video or DVD I'd appreciate it. However, this is the sole sci-fi flick of all time and no movie buff should miss it!

Summary: A 1950's classic and still a great movie.
Review: I remember this film as a kid, and it scared the life out of me. In our culture of bloodier and scarier this film might leave some unimpressed. But I still think the suspence is there, on par with the classics of its time. I still think the effects used in this movie are 1st rate-there's just something about using models rather than computer generated images that adds a special something.

As a personal note I'm a microbiologist, and probably not giving away the ending to too many readers here, it's great having a movie where it's the 'littlest things' of earth that end up as the hero and not the beast.

And yes, it is nothing like Wells' book. It's an adapted version for a mostly American audience as was the famous radio broadcast (but it is nothing like the radio version either). Enjoy it for what it is and when it was made.

Summary: A great book, movie, and TV series
Review: As a fan of War of the Worlds since I was six-I watched the series that ran from 88-90-everytime I watch this movie it is always entertaining. Yes it is dated, but it just adds humor. I remember hearing about a UK version done in the fifties or sixties that was closer to the book. Again this movie is blast-loaded with unintentional humor
