Summary: The best war movie I've ever seen
Review: A great movie. The best vietnam movie I've ever seen. I love all the characters and I also love the soundtrack which was performed by georges delerue and I play it again and again. Sound and picture quality is so good. You're gonna find what you're looking for from a war movie. And it has a differet perspective from other vietnam movies ever made. Everytime I watch this movie I feel the instincts of the people who played in this movie. All the actors and director oliver stone is great.

Summary: The first casualty of war is innocence
Review: Platoon is after my opinion one of the best movies made about the Vietnam War ever. Oliver Stone let us see the war through the eyes of a young recruit Chris(Sheen), and his struggle to keep his sanity and his morality intact in this brutal war, that threatens to steal both things from him.
The movie is not about the big aspects of the war, but more about how the men that fought and died in the jungles of Cambodia and Vietnam felt, the hopelesnes, the despair and the anger. We get a harrowingly look at the "political" struggle between sgt. Elias(Dafoe) and Staff Sgt. Barnes (Berenger) and how the integrity of the platoon is split between the loyalties to the two men and their different aproaches on how to wage war.
The movie is shocking and I believe(without having any first hand experience) it gives you a good idea what it is really like being at war. This seems to be a very personal movie for Stone, and the message is still an important one today. Don't miss out on this one.

Summary: Outstanding movie
Review: PLATOON is a Viet Nam movie that is an outstanding film. The movie is based on Oliver Stones firsthand experience while there. The movie brings the war home to the viewer and the viewer gets the feeling that they are they. Charlie Sheen plays Chris Taylor who drops out of college and volunteers for combat duty in the'Nam. Tom Berenger and Willem Dafore play Sgt. Barnes and Sgt. Elias, two of Sheens supervisors whose personal conflicts start to tear the platoon apart. This is a classic movie that the viewer will want to watch over and over again. With the DVD we also get a behind the scenes documentary on how the actors were selected and the grueling training they went through to get ready for the film. The interesting thing about PLATOON is that many of the actors in the film were relative unknows that were cast and some of them we have seen in other films while some others, we have never heard from again.

Summary: Just Say No
Review: I saw this movie a few years ago, and I can't help but to say that it is horrible, and how Oliver Stone won Academy Awards for this film still baffles me. The characters are un-realistic. (Especially Tom Berenger, which I thought it was the worst performance of acting I have ever seen). My dad told me about this movie, and said it was the best war movie he had ever seen.
He said it was much better than "Saving Private Ryan". Boy was he wrong. To even hold this film in the light of "Saving Private Ryan" would be an insult to Steve Speilberg, Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore and Barry Pepper.

Most people's taste varies, and they say war movies loose their sting after a few years, but to me, I don't think this film ever had any sting to it. Sorry, and this review will probably (...) everyone off, but for a real war movie see "Saving Private Ryan" or "Apocalypse Now". Believe me, you will not be disappointed.

If you're looking for a well-acted movie, or atleast one that would maintain your interest, avoid this film. Count your hair it will be more entertaining.

Summary: Entertaining war film, one of the best
Review: Oliver Stone's direction on this 1985 Vietnam film is excellent (he wrote the screenplay for Scarface in 1983).
The characters are well cast, though there are a few to many to follow easily, the acting is great. This is one of the best war movies along with Tora Tora Tora, The Longest Day, and Patton.

Summary: Ughh
Review: I must say that Platoon really bugged me when I watched it. Being a true Apocalypse Now fan, I saw it mearly as a way for Charlie Sheen to capitalize on his dad's success. If you watch for it, it is painfully apparent throughout the movie. While it is supposedly "true" to how war actually is, I kept thinking of how obviously this movie is trying to become a hollywood blockbuster rather than a true art film. One of my major gripes with it was how strained the dialouge seems. Rarely is there any true emotion in the film and much of the movie is build on common war movie cliches both in the action and the acting. Otherwise, I thought it was a fine war film, but definately not the best Vietnam film ever. Apocalype Now takes that crown.

Summary: third best vietnam movie
Review: Behind Apocalypse Now and the Deer Hunter, Platoon is the third best movie about Vietnam. I think this is Oliver Stone's best movie (with Born on the Fourth of July and JFK as second and third). Charlie Sheen is marvelous and is supported perfectly by Dafoe and Berenger. It is really penetrating and it feels like you are actually there. The picture and sound on the special edition DVD are impressive and make it that much better. Great movie, great DVD.
