Summary: One of my favorite John Wayne war movies
Review: This movie is so much better in its uncut version that the diluted version that is so often shown on TV that you've got to buy this movie.

There is some real character development and action in this story...perhaps the most poignant is the relationship between Wayne and his on-screen son.

Solid performances all the way around.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Nearly classic
Review: I love this film. Yes, it is melodramatic and soapy at times but there is something different about this film compared to other WW2 'navy' movies. This movie makes you feel like you are right there on that 'straw bottom' cruiser. Through well planned shots and skillful editting we see and hear the sea, are in the captains cabin shaving, on the brigdge, with the lookouts, present for the call to general quarters, in the engine room plugging torpedo holes in the side of the ship. I can't think of any other movie that portrays these types of activities or detail like does this movie. I forgive it for the scattered love affairs and rapes, the white uniforms and shiny caps during wartime, just to get to that nautical feel.

Summary: World War II Melodrama with 1960's hairstyles.
Review: A long and tedious WW2 soap opera that strives to be an epic love story and gripping War drama ala "From here to Eternity." Where it succeeds it is also let down by implausible plotting and some phony heroics near the end when Kirk Douglas seeks to redeem himself following the suicide of a girl whom he raped and throws his fate to the wind in an against all odds mission in the service of his country. The movie simply loses credibility on that scene alone. Some decent acting by all involved doesnt elevate this film any higher than a bloated attempt at oscar nominations.

Summary: superb entertainment based on fact
Review: the final scene with Wayne and Neal is on a par with the final scene of GWTW.

Summary: A must have for any serious collector of John Wayne movies.
Review: A fantastic story told around the attack on Pearl Harbor and the early war in the pacific. John Wayne gives his usual excellent performance and then some. Kirk Douglas plays his character like none other could. Look for all the famous faces. P.S. See if you can spot a famous movie actors son.

Summary: John Wayne and Patricia Neal at their best!
Review: One of the all time best of WWII movies. Relatively true to the actual facts of the Pacific war.

Summary: Excellent, John Wayne and Kirk Douglas at their best
Review: One of my all time favorites! I have watched this movie a hundred times and will watch it a hundred more. Great cast, great plot, great subplots, truly exciting. A good one to watch with other WWII buffs and a case of cold ones.

Summary: One of the best naval war movies ever!
Review: This is my favorite war movie, and is near the top of the list of my favorite movies, period! You don't have to be psychic to figure out who the good guys and bad guys are in this film. It's full of good old-fashioned action and plenty of romantic interest as well. The movie does a great job of creating a picture of the era it portrays--the fact that it is in black & white contributes to the overall feel of the movie. It's a wonderful tribute to our country, our navy, and all the best they represent.

Summary: this movie makes you want to be there with john
Review: this movie is the best and that is saying something with all the war movies that came out after the war. otto knows what he is doing and john and kirk really show us why they are the stars they are. the movie starts us out on dec 6 just before pearl harbor. we get to see how men were wrongly accused after the fact and how one officer bounces back after the demotion. he meets a nurse who will follow him in harms way, as will his son. this movie has a happy ending but with alot of loss of life ie alot of characters we meet soon will meet there maker. sad but thats how it was. have a good 3 hours with this one you will wish you could have been there

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Great Black & White classic but colorization is awful !
Review: If there is a God.... Please no more colorization of the wonderful B & W classics like this one. A good sound track & quality B&W on DVD would be ideal.
