Summary: Great Black & White classic but colorization is awful !
Review: If there is a God.... Please no more colorization of the wonderful B & W classics like this one. A good sound track & quality B&W on DVD would be ideal.

Summary: In harm's way -- Classic WWII genre, and John Wayne too!
Review: A top-notch WWII movie -- one of my favorites. I actually prefer the black and white format.

This movie focuses on the effects of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on the career of one naval officer, played by John Wayne, and people close to him. JW is caught initially by the backlash effects of the debacle at Pearl Harbor and a nation's need to place blame.

As a result JW finds himself ashore, rather than at sea where he longs to be. But as a career naval officer he does his duty. His potential is eventually realized, and he is given a field assignment where he excels.

The character development is great, and relationships between the principles is excellent, especially between Wayne and his on-screen son.

This movie has heroism and love, loss and tragedy. To me the defining point in the movie occurs when JW's on-screen son realizes what's important to his father, and, consequently, to him.

5 stars all the way

Summary: MISUSED TALENT
Review: When this movie was released, Otto Preminger himself appeared in the trailer, stating that he wanted to depict the human drama of the American fighting man's recovery from defeat at Pearl Harbor and his eventual turning of the tide in the Pacific. Great idea for a movie, but the producer missed his mark. Why didn't this movie make use of the real places and drama? Though there are great stars, stark photography, and a Goldsmith score,it badly misses the mark. The sea battle is pretty clearly meant to be in the Solomons, but is irritatingly disguised with fictional names for islands. The battles themselves are portrayed in a non-realistic fashion. Too bad. The real ones were marked by great courage and luck. The ships very much look like the models they are. How about the story? Plenty of melodrama, a sort of Peyton Place set in the South Pacific. If you're a history buff with any interest in WWII, you will be disappointed.

Summary: In Harm's Way-excellent
Review: I have seen this movie dozens of times and is just as good as the first. I have a special fondness for this movie as it was filmed on the ship my father served on the USS St. Paul CA-73. Thank you for making it available to own.

Summary: The present VHS format does no justice...
Review: I experienced this unusual "war movie" when it was first released in the mid 60's at one of Hollywood's movie palaces, presented in widescreen and multi-channel sound. The combination of Jerry Goldsmith's stirring musical score and the slam-bang sound effects, in combination of the pristine black and white cinematography of Loyal Griggs cry out for the release of this Otto Preminger masterpiece onto a DVD format complete with 5.1 digital sound. It will THEN deserve a magnificent Five-Star rating! Am I (and many others) asking for too much?

Summary: John Wayne at his best.
Review: In Harm's Way is a tremendous WW2 Navy yarn told by the best actors of it's day. Parts of the movie are slow and predictable plus the special effects are '60s technology, but I don't have any problem letting go and being totally absorbed by the story. The sense of drama that builds during the night attacks leading up to the final battle is absolutely intense. The great plot and stellar performances by the supporting cast make the experiance even richer. P.S. Yes to a letterboxed version, NO TO COLORIZED. I'm not a reactionary about colorizing movies, but don't forget this movie was made in 1965! Hello, if they had wanted it to be in color they would have made it in color.

Summary: In Harm's Way: The Real Thing
Review: Fabulous movie. Real buried treasure. John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, and Patricia Neal at the peak of their powers. What's so special? For one thing, John Wayne and Patricia Neal. They give us a romance between a REAL man and a REAL woman. Bravo to Otto Preminger for not casting a starlet or some other pointless screen beauty as Wayne's love interest. You don't see that these days. The result, John Wayne is very sexy. Great black and white photography, too! DVD, Yes! Colorize, NO!

Review: I own this movie,in black and white. I think it is a classic like Patton and The Longest Day. It needs to be put on DVD with 5.1 sound and colorized. I would buy it in a minute.

Summary: COLORIZE????
Review: If this is such a "classic" then why in God's name should it be colorized??? Colorization is the worst thing that ever happened to films.. What this movie needs is to be released in the wide-screen format on DVD, but NO COLOR!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: please colorize & put on dvd * great movie
