Summary: Cannot get better than this
Review: Very light but thoughtful. Crisp but well textured. It might not be the most convincing story, but it does not have to be given the delicious twists and stylish direction.Brosnan might not be more handsome than Alec Baldwin, but with his knowing smiles and cunning eyes, he fits his part as Thomas Crown perfectly. And Rene Russo? What more can I say? I cannot agree more with the previous reviewers: beautiful, confident, sexy, emotional and everything. The photography and score are excellent. I especially like the scene where Crown wretched his hundred thousand dollar boat just to catch a splash. Red sail and yellow wind breaker against the blue ocean. What a feast. And the "let's play ball" scene where Crown "put" back the Monet is a pure excitment, no less because of the delightful accompanying soundtrack "Sinnerman." Overall, a very enjoyable movie. It might not be the kind of movie that would "change your life." But it's definitely a movie that can refresh you and make you smile.

Summary: Why can't you give stuff zero stars?
Review: This completes Pierce Brosnan's "Triumvirate of Turds": Thomas Crown Affair, Dante's Peak, and Tailor of Panama. I especially despised Rene Russo's performance. I mean she's always irritating and grating but in this one she's simply intollerable. The woman emotes about as much as an empty bag of bread. Really bad. But still better than Tailor. It really frightens me there are people in this world who sincerely like this movie. I can just picture them sitting at their computer, stroking one of their 18 cats, waiting for Prince Charming to show up at their door and wisk them away to a wonderful fairy tale land like in The Thomas Crown Affair, and then seething with anger because someone didn't think this movie was the landmark achievement of the millenium. In what environment does one grow up that would lend itself to seeing any possible redeeming features in this film? I'm torn between a cardboard box (hey, that also describes Rene Russo in this movie!) or raised in isolation by a herd of sheep.

Review: Although the presentation is not as stylish as the original, I prefer this version. There is better chemistry between the characters, Thomas is actively involved in the crime & he steals art, not money. Being a devoted Magritte fan, I have to love the ending. :o) Loved it!

Summary: Brilliant - do not miss this one.
Review: I normally make it a point to never watch either sequels or re-makes but the Thomas Crown Affair (TCA) with Pierce Brosnan & Rene Russo is the rare case of the re-make being way better than the original (Steve McQueen-Faye Dunaway). This is a movie that is cerebral and keeps you guessing, while at the same time being great fun. This is a movie that is elegant and crisp; one is hard pressed to find a wasted moment. This is a movie to savor again and again. I will not dwell on the story to avoid being a spoiler (In a sentence, a painting is stolen brilliantly by Brosnan and Russo is on his trail) and for that matter, the story line is really besides the point. The key here is the battle of wits between two masters of their respective arenas. Each lives for the thrill of what they do and each respects the other as a worthy adversary - the song Windmills of your Mind is perfectly in place here. Pierce Brosnan is his usual relaxed mix of languid ease and coiled tension spring, sticking his neck out and running with the wind. Hard as it is to compete with Brosnan who gets the best lines in the movie, Rene Russo comes off very well indeed as insurance investigator Catherine Banning. She prowls through the movie like a cat, sensual and predatory in turn. So strong are Brosnan and Russo in fact that the rest of the cast appears lackluster in comparison. TCA is a viewing delight as well with its swift changes of scene from city to country to glorious island. For me the only let down was the stereotyping of Russo as the standard jealous female towards the end, totally at odds with her character till then. Also the ending was a little too cute; but then to be fair, I cannot for the life of me think of a better alternative. A superb movie, highly recommended.

Summary: Slow-paced remake
Review: "The Thomas Crown Affair" is definitely a stylish and a delicious piece of sexiness and mystery, but the slow pacing and some of the inept acting (thanks to a NYPD Blue-like Dennis Leary) get some deduction in the matter of stars. Rene Russo simply sizzles as the sexy insurance investigator who goes undercover and pretends to fall in love with Thomas Crown, a sly painting theft (and falls for him in real life) to catch him. While Pierce Brosnan (who finally becomes the bad guy, instead of 007) plays the equally delicious Thomas Crown. The two definitely have chemistry-sexually, most notably; Rene Russo is DEFINITELY sexy fully clothed and with her clothes off. Pierce Brosnan is the main piece in keep you guessing until the end with the plot twists and the appropriate ending that may spawn a sequel. But sadly, what led me to deduct points is the inept acting and the incredibly slow pace. But otherwise, it's a sly, stylish, sexy remake of the 1969 thriller with Faye Dunaway (she also makes a appearance as Crown's therapist). Rated R for sexuality/nudity and for language.

Review: I am told this is better than the original. I think I saw the original years ago. I don't remember it being a stinker but if this remake is supposed to be better, then the original had to be awful. This picture makes no sense. The acting is OK, the story is for the feeble and that is about it.

Review: I think, first of all, that "old Bolingbroke" should stick to a review and refrain from criticizing fellow reviewers. Details do matter in filmmaking, and if I read "Bolingbroke's" biography right, I doubt he would appreciate playing fast and loose with his faves. That said, I was diappointed with this movie. It had some nifty spots, but not a lot of emotional punch. Renee Russo getting all gooshy over the Thomas Crowne character was hard to understand, given that she was introduced as a sexy, confident woman. A movie about intrigue should have some intrigue, and a movie about art theft (and how clever one can be) should be a lot more realistic.

Review: To all the technical nay sayers out there with their whining
"you cannot fold a painting" and "you cannot wash oils off with
water" I have but one thing to say and that is - stop already. If you see ANY movie and you hold some serious professional
knowledge about the stuff going on on the screen, THEY ALWAYS
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS GET IT WRONG!!! That is a given. For me
as a telecommunications engineer, that reveleation came with
"The Long Kiss Goddnight" and in "A Clear And Present Danger". So that being said, I take a huge chunk of disbelief and
remembering that it is a movie ( so technically always flawed ),
I have to say that I enjoyed this movie immensely. Renee Russo is so good and her scenes with Brosnan zing off the
screen. I can only say that those reviewers stating there is
no chemistry between Ms Russo and Mr Brosnan would probably not
find any chemistry between potassium metal and water either. And damn! When Ms Russo is on the screen, it is a wonder that
the screen does not melt. I cannot remember a movie in recent
years in which any female character has been dressed so sexily.
She simply radiates confidence and ability - both professionally
and sexually. In fact though the love scenes in this movie are
by no means gratuitous nor offensive, Ms Russo shows all the
allure of her character while fully clothed. "Do you want to dance? Or do you want to dance?". Indeed.
