Summary: EDGE OF YOUR SEAT!!!
Review: Denzel Washington stars in this suspense thriller as Chief Matt Whitlock in the small Florida town of Banyan Key. With a divorce pending from his wife, Whitlock begins an affair with a married woman; but when she turns up dead, Whitlock realizes that he would be the number one suspect. What follows is a series of desperate attempts by the Chief to cover up any and all involvement with the deceased--and it certainly doesn't help matters that the homicide investigation is being run by his soon-to-be ex-wife--who has recently been promoted to detective.

Stellar performances are delivered by Sanaa Lathan--who plays the married woman with whom the Chief is having an affair--and Eva Mendes, who plays Whitlock's wife. A fair amount of humor is injected into this intriguing suspense drama by the town's Medical Examiner, played by John Billingsley, who's unwaivering loyalty to the Chief is key throughout. Dean Cain also performs well as the "bad guy" husband of Sanaa Lathan.....

A series of plot twists and turns--many unexpected--will leave audiences everywhere holding their breath. Denzel Washington fans won't be disappointed, as, reminiscent of a postal carrier, he "always delivers."

Summary: Well done movie with a formulaic plot
Review: After the basic setting for the movie is presented one is afraid that it will become predictable and boring. Nevertheless, it succeeds in providing enough suspense and subtle plot twists that keep the rhythm going and the interest of the audience alive.

Denzel Washington plays Matt Whitlock, a police chief in Banyan Keys, FL who has been abandoned by his wife recently and is involved in a relationship with Ann, a married woman. Everything goes well until Matt finds out that Ann has cancer, which was in remission but has come back with a vengeance and she has only six months left to live. The only option to prevent this is to try experimental procedures that are extremely expensive. In the meantime, Ann finds out that her husband has increased the life policy they had bought for her to $1,000,000. The final piece of the story is that Matt made a bust of a drug dealer and has $485,000 sequestered for evidence in the safe in his office.

In this setting, one imagines that the story will develop according to one of the usual formulas, and it surely does. The movie, however, is very well done, with passages of high intensity and great performances, which compensate in part for the plot "defects". One final aspect that I liked is the photography; I usually do not expect to find high quality in this area in a thriller, but in this case the scenery makes this task easy to accomplish. Evidently, this movie is not a masterpiece, but it will serve it purpose if you are looking to relax and have a good time.

Summary: (3 1/2 Stars) Exciting Plot BUT.....
Review: The character relations could have been better. Although I really like Sanaa Lathan (Ann-Marie Harrison) as an actress, she didn't seem to have great chemistry w/Denzel's character; Chief of police Mathias Whitlock. I really wasn't convinced that they were really high school sweethearts that still had a DEEP passion for one another. Even his ex-wife/wife, Alex (played by the beautiful Eva Mendes) seemed rather stiff in this movie. Mathias and Alex are in the middle of a divorce even as they are paired together in this action packed suspence drama.

I must say though that Dean Cane who played Anne-Marie's husband Chris, did a stand out performance. He and Denzel played off of each other extremely well. I saw an interview where Denzel even commended Dean on his performance. Believe it our not, Denzel had never heard of him before. The scenes they have together are really intense and adds much needed depth to this movie. I wouldn't be surprised if Dean is in another movie starring Denzel. At the very least, I think we will start to see him in more good roles on the big screen.

I did enjoy this movie. It may have not been one of Denzel's best but that's OK.

Summary: No Way Out of Time
Review: Denzel Washington desperately trying to stay one step ahead of being discovered by the authorities was strongly reminiscent of Kevin Costner attempting the same in "No Way Out". I must say that, overall, this film was better than the Costner film.
Still, it was underwhelming; much of it was predictable. Also, if the viewer who might be rooting for Denzel's character steps back for a minute, what he sees is a corrupt cop who doesn't deserve a happy ending. Just because he's Denzel and we all like Denzel (as we all like Tom Hanks and a few others) doesn't mean we should be sympathetic to his character (likewise John Billingsley's character, who was quirky and funny -- but also unethical and immoral).
As long as I'm nitpicking, here's my favorite scene: Denzel's sexy ex-wife, kicking in the door to the men's room with the high heels that she wore with her tight skirt and the rest of her professional detective outfit.

Summary: No Big Suprises Here
Review: Denzel is about as easy to watch as any actor. Even while he's busy crossing the line, it's difficult to not to root for him. Mind you, this is no Training Day. The plot will keep you interested from start to finish, but there is no huge suprise payoff at the finale. The story is average, and you'll get the feeling you've seen it all before. Denzel is the only saving grace. He keeps it interesting with his character. This one is worth watching, but if you haven't seen Devil in a Blue Dress check that one out instead.

Summary: Don¿t let the critics put you off. This is a good film.
Review: Denzel Washington is one of the most consistent actors in Hollywood. Although this is not his best film he still puts in a solid performance. Out of Time, as with other Washington films, is centred on the lead character. Nevertheless three of the supporting actors (Eva Mendes, Dean Cain and Sanaa Lathan) manage to hold their own. The story is far fetched and you know what is going to happen, but the setting, acting and pace of the film make it enjoyable to watch.

Summary: No Suspense in a Movie Which Claims to Be a Suspense Film
Review: This movie didn't offer much for me. I have always liked Denzel Washington, but I would certainly call this one of his weaker projects. He should fire the agent that got him this role immediately. The characters are for one, as the other reviewers have mentioned, quite forgettable. Filled with predictable outcomes and typical bad guy/good guy scenarios, I was never at the edge of my seat. And with a title like "Out of Time", I was hoping I would be. I just don't like movies that I can figure out before they are through. Movies that use sex appeal as their only means of entertainment. I mean sex appeal is nice in a movie, but it has to have a plot, as well! Not one of Denzel's better performances here, I was disappointed.

Summary: Out of Love
Review: Amazing what men will do out of love for women. Denzel sticks his foot in it this time when he falls in love with a woman he is having an affair with. As a sheriff he should know better. To complicate matters she makes him her life insurance beneficiary and he gives her money from a drug bust so she can leave her husband. See any complications here? Yeah, like walking in a mine field dragging a huge rake while wearing a blindfold. The additional features are okay and the DVD quality is good. Whether you buy it not be sure to catch this one. The scenery in Florida is great and the acting is quite good.

Summary: Out of Time
Review: Boy, there sure is alot going on in this little back water town! And Sheriff Denzel seems to have stepped in most of it. Someone else mentioned in a review about things being done with no logical reason, and I have to agree! Like giving the evidence money to his lady friend to start treatment for cancer. (To be replaced by insurance money not even filed for) RIGHT!
(Without starting a debate over the obvious) I'm starting to believe that black actors are just not being offered roles of any substance. Which is a waste of so much talent.
Anyway, there's some action scenes, some love / lust scenes and some "oh, no! How will you get out of this dilemma" moments to rent this one for a slow Saturday night at home.

Summary: Good Movie
Review: Denzel is the backbone of this movie. There are a lot of plot twists and turns which make this film interesting. However, it is Denzel's character that he establishes throughout this movie that makes Out Of Time enjoyable.
